and breaking news in the death of a 3-year-old girl in canton. police have just charged the child's father and his girlfriend for little haley miku's death. it is a tragic turn of events that has left the community numb. >> homa bash has been following the story throughout the evening. she has late breaking developments. >> reporter: there are so many many details about what happened that police officers are still trying to wrap their heads around what they found. >> you never expect something like this. >> reporter: a tiny red piece of crime scene tape seals the home where paramedics found a nightmare inside. 3-year-old hailey miku dead. >> whether it be from hands or an object, it'll be for the

definitely, i guess you could call it literally was beat up. >> reporter: in a horrifying 911 from her father mathew, he describes the 3-year-old as stiff and not breathing. saying she had fallen down the steps a week ago and died today. hours later police charged the 22-year-old with murder and child endangering. his live in girlfriend jessica bender also charged. >> there were things that led us to believe this had been happening over time. there was a lot of fresh injuries too. >> reporter: this photo is from a go fund me account started by her grandparents. now paying for a funeral. >> i think it's a shame. >> reporter: police tell us the family had just moved into the home this month. neighbors say they hardly saw them. a 5-year-old boy now in the custody of child protective services. >> why take something out on a child? the bottom line is a child is innocent. >> reporter: this is the third

police usually average about eight in a year. in canton, homa bash. police tell us the 5-year- old taken from the home did not have any apparent injuries. another child killed in columbus today. police say three people were shot at a convenience store there late this afternoon. a 7-year-old was killed. his 5-year-old brother and a 19- year-old were also hurt. in custody tonight. that's the same store that was the scene of a shooting back in january. meantime a 17-year-old from stow will be charged as an adult in last month's shooting that left a kent state student dead. bond was set at $2 million today. he and a 17-year-old from massillon are both charged with aggravated murder after nicholas masa was shot and killed during a robbery attempt at an off camera apartment. prosecutors want the other teen to be charged as an adult as

can -- my daughter got robbed. she's a delivery person. >> only on 5, the 911 call the mother of a pizza delivery driver robbed outside this house. it has happened once again. this is the latest in a string of pizza robberies in akron. tonight that shaken driver speaks only to news channel 5. as the 22-year-old mother of two was delivering a pizza on 12th street shortly after 7:00 last night she quickly realized the address was an abandoned house. it then went from bad to worse. brooklyn, who doesn't want to use her last name, says she was jumped by three men. >> and he grabbed my shirt with my skin and just turned me all around. i felt like r i have no words to how i felt. >> reporter: brooklyn found words and fearing for her life screamed as loud as she could.

and it seemed like no one heard me. no one came out. but they -- it got them away from me. >> reporter: her screams scared them off. she claims the three men ran for it empty handed. this is the second marco's pizza delivery driver to be robbed in akron in the past week. >> what's going on there? >> i've just been shot. i was delivering a pizza. >> reporter: last month a papa john's driver robbed and shot shortly after making a delivery on akron's south side. >> at the end of the day i cannot fight off three guys. but i did. >> akron police have not made an arrest in this case or last month's papa john's robbery. the fbi trying to crack the unsolved murder of a pizza shop worker shot during a robbery back in december. we have new surveillance video of a car that could be connected to more than 50 vandalized cars in tremont. take a closer look. in one of the videos you can

the family who survived is counting their blessings, even after as it put their faith to the test. 3:00 friday morning, covered by nothing more than clouds, snow and mercy. held by a seat belt and a blessing. fate inevitable. that head on crash fueled by slick roads and alcohol left a u-haul hugging railing. our cameras rolled. he tiffed. >> we was on route 71. just before this happened i said lord, god, please don't let a wrong way driver hit me. >> reporter: it played out on odot cameras like a fuzzy premonition. >> as soon as i said that we seen headlights coming. >> reporter: then, like the truck's steering column his prayers shifted. >> i said lord please don't let us go over that wall. >> reporter: instead anthony and his brother landed in the hospital. doctors slid him into a neck brace. his voice is shaky but not his faith. >> lord was looking out for us.

car, a man and his female passenger caught anthony and his brother as they were finishing a moving job at church. the couple was so drunk they couldn't tell entrance from exit. >> the lady was in there saying i just want to go home. i just want to leave. >> reporter: truck drivers blocked them in while anthony and his brother waited on police. the pain, a constant reminder that he was not called home. and by the way that wrong way driver was charged with ovi. we have breaking news out of los angeles. >> multiple media reports reporting a knife found at o.j. simpson's former home is not consistent with the 1994 murders of nicole brown simpson and ronald goldman. tonight's revelations end a whirlwind day. america awoke to news that a knife had been found when simpson's former home was being demolished. a worker turned the knife over to a police officer who kept it for almost two decades. when higher ups at the lapd found out the knife existed they seized it.

in on the surprising discovery. >> i thought it might be useful to take a small break from the spectacle of the political season and, and now i gather o.j., to focus on something that really matters to the american people. >> simpson was acquitted in the 1994 killings of his ex-wife and her friend. he cannot be tried again because of double jeopardy. the supreme court has temporarily blocked a louisiana law imposing regulations on doctors who perform abortioning. that move would allow two recently closed clinics in louisiana to reopen. the order said the court's action was in line with its decision in june to temporarily block part of a texas abortion law that was challenged by abortion providers in another high profile case. assault charges against three pennsylvania high school football players are unveiling a culture of hazing among the team going back several years. investigators say last fall two

the city of cleveland now firing back at the new york times. >> leaders are not happy about an article that says cleveland is worst off in the united states when it comes to economic recovery. 5 on your side investigator joe pagonakis went in search of the z i heard cleveland leaders are sending a letter to the new york times editor in chief. >> reporter: cleveland's economic leaders have the real numbers that show our city is on the rebound. >> cleveland scores high marks as one of the most tax friendly large cities. >> reporter: tracy nichols shows us more than a dozen independent studies showing cleveland is on an upward trend. she says you wouldn't know it if you read this new york times article that states cleveland is ranked among the worst off when it comes to economic recovery.

onion to take a look at some of these statistics they're using and what we found was a lot of the information is very misleading and it's really not accurate. >> reporter: the article is based on census data interpretedy the economic innovation group. the data is three years old. >> i would say they need to dig a little bit deeper. >> reporter: community development director points to new employment data that shows growth since 2010. healthcare jobs up by 16%. education service jobs up 24%. and company management positions up by 28%. >> we're showing since 2011 a graduation rates. good things and it's really upsetting with people don't give you a call to say hey, we have some facts, do you have anything to say about it. >> reporter: and we sent e- mails and phone calls to new york times trying to get a response to try to get them to defend their article. so far they haven't gotten back us.

he'll rally at the olivet institutional baptist church. he hopes to gain momentum by the ohio primary. governor kasich will be back home next week. the republican presidential candidate will hold a rally at ohio cat and broad view heights tuesday afternoon. doors open at 4:30. that is the same day as michigan's primary. kasich will hold an election night party in columbus. we may still have more than a week to vote. voters in five states go to the polls tomorrow. it's democrats in kansas, louisiana and nebraska and republicans in kansas, kentucky, louisiana and maine on super saturday. we'll have results on news channel 5 as well as newsnet5.com. whether we do go to the polls on march 15th, republicans may find their ballot confusing. >> just a bit. they have two chances to vote for president. one box is for picking an at- large candidate and one for a congressional district delegate. why? ohio's republican vote used to

we are mainly clear to partly cloudy over downtown cleveland right now. that's allowed our temps to drop. 28 in downtown. we'll widen out our view and show you a dry power of 5 live doppler network radar. at least in our viewing area right here and east. snow beginning to show up off the detroit radar. that'll be in for your morning and afternoon tomorrow. 18, medina. look at that. 18 with clear skies. it's 19 now in mentor. it's cold. 21 in ashtabula, as well as elyria. still 32 degrees in millersburg. it all depends on whether you've seen clearing over your neighborhood as to how cold you are. the clearer your skies the colder your temps. 25 downtown. a light southerly breeze. 85% humidity. a dew point at 21. least amount of snow for any winter. we're now number four. we're tied. we have 24.7 inches after two inches of snow yesterday and earlier this morning.

and we may get a half an inch of snowstorm. that'll bump us down to five or six. but all in all, i think we still got a shot at a top ten least snowiest winter here. this guy is not very strong. he's going to lose steam as he moves our way. this looks like an impressive band of snow. by the time it reaches us it's going to be light snow. your hour by hour tomorrow morning, a few flurries. notice scattered snow arriving by lunchtime. could mix with or change over to rain as we head through the afternoon as temps warm up. even if it stays all snow where you are, i'm not expecting much more than one inch. a trace to an inch is what we're going with. once that goes by, we begin to see a warmer return flow of air. beginning monday. so that should take us up to near 60 degrees. excellent weather next week. 24 overnight. clouds thicken up. maybe a predawn snow shower.

massillon native and quarterback coach george whitfield has a special relationship with the quarterback position. >> more of ab identity than just signing up to go play football. i just think the position in and of itself, it is so dynamic and so rich in so many ways. >> cross plant. >> despite coming from a family filled with defensive players, whitfield was under center at youngs town state. following his years in uniform he became more well known for teaching than playing. >> fourth grader and his mom approached me. it grew. >> work through it, one, two. >> currently he's training quarterbacks for the nfl. including cardale jones and connor cook. his resume includes training nflers cam newton and andrew luck. it's his unique techniques that have led some to call him the quarterback whipper.
