new york and the bomb in new jersey are linked to the same bomber. investigators insist the probes remain separate but coordinated. coming up in 10 minutes we will examine how both campaigns are responding to last night's bombing in new jersey and new york. we have breaking news in minnesota here authorities have announced they are investigating the stabbing of nine people as a potential act of terrorism occurred last night. it ended inside a store where an off-duty police officer shot and killed the attacker. investigators say they do not believe the attack is related to the new york and new jersey bombings. >> i am hopeful that when we are able to figure out what the motivation was for our attacker here, we will be able to say definitively if any connection there may be.

the fbi is digging into the attackers past to see if he has links. out of lakewood where police are investigating a school threat. officials at lakewood high school tell us that a disturbing message was found in a restroom that referenced a columbine style shooting your police will have patrols inside and outside of the school building tomorrow. shot by akron police. >> witnesses say he was carrying an assault rifle. >> reporter: the bci has been called into investigate the shooting. the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while they investigate the case. she was tending to her father's memorial in this prayer garden when she said she witnessed a fight. >> something bad was about to

the police came. >> reporter: the police said they got a call about a fight. a 61-year-old suspect allegedly slammed his neighbors arm in a car door. police say two officers arrived on the scene and approached the man. >> he started walking away. >> reporter: according to police and witnesses the man reached for an assault rifle in the car. >> the officer said drop your weapon three or four times. >> repor continued to reach for it. >> the officer had nothing to do but fire shoots -- shots at the suspect. >> i was on my hands and knees because i did not know which way the bullets were going. >> reporter: the suspect was hit in the torso and later died. the bci is handling the investigation into the moments leading up to the fatal shooting . witnesses are weighing in on whether they believe the shots were justified.
