now four headlines at 4:00. number one, jewelry heist. a guy drives off with thousands of dollars in stolen goods in hand and an employee on the hood of his car. it's been nearly a week and it looks like this storm may be one of the most expensive ever to hit the bay area. one of 200 pigs rescued from a rescue. and number four, the iphone 7. some of the new features coming out with the new device. good afternoon. i am josh benson. >> and i am stacie schaible. right now, detectives are looking for a man who stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the brandon mall.

a store employee took off after him and ended up on the hood of the suspect's car. >> reporter: a jewelry store in the brandon mall is shut down today after a clerk chased out a thief and then ended up being thrown from the car right here on state road 60. let's take a look at some of the surveillance video. hillsborough county sheriff's deputies say it happened yesterday evening at about 7:00 at night. an unidentified male stole two pieces of jewelry about $23,000. after grabbing that jewelry, the suspect then ran out and an employee of the store chased him to the car he was driving and then jumped on the hood and was thrown out on to state road 60. that employee was taken to tampa general hospital. we're told they have life- threatening injuries. the store is closed today. we will have much more coming up later today. in brandon, rod carter, news channel 8. and hurricane hermine may

storms ever for pasco county. emergency managers are estimating more than $89 million in damages so far. the county is reporting more than 300 homes with major damage. the county commissioner told us today some areas need major storm water improvements. >> these older neighborhoods were built that are having the issues and it's hard to go back into retrofit a storm water system. and let's head over to julie now. >> it has improved quite a bit over the last few days. drier air in place, more sunshine and we are liking the break from the rain. 89degrees at veterans ford in tampa. winds out of the northeast light.

location. we are not expecting much for the rest of the afternoon and evening. check out the satellite and radar imagery. you can see northern florida up into the southeast, quiet right now. all the moisture limited to south florida really at this point. and the far southern portions of our viewing area. on the water vapor imagery, you can see the drier air in the bright red over the panhandle and up into the southeast. and we have lingering moisture to the south and in plac so that's where we are seeing some showers and storms this afternoon. you can see some rain moving out near sarasota over towards the beaches. feeling like a little bit of rain this afternoon as well. and arcadia and highlands county, still tracking some spotty showers. heavy downpours sitting over lake placid at this point. to the south is mainly where we see the rain for the afternoon and evening. we're up to 91 in tampa.

94 in bartow. temperatures are warm but the dew points still a little bit lower than we typically see this time of year. upper 60s, low 70s, that makes it feel more pleasant. for the evening, temperatures in the mid-80s. only a few showers around to the south. but rain chances returning as we head towards the weekend. we will have a full look at the forecast in a few minutes. >> all right. thank you. right now, a lakeland man is facing 197 felony charges, accused of being inappropriate with two documenting the crimes. now we need you to know that there could be more victims. we're told james malone had cameras all around his home. detectives discovered the abuse when they went through his devices. >> we would like to know if other photographs he has in his possession are child porn that he made.

had contact with malone to come forward. also in polk county today, the sheriff's office is in control of 178 pigs seized from a rescue in august. we're told the animals were living in filth in a place called darlings darlings in polk city. the owners face more than 100 animal negligent charges. a judge ruled they can never own animals again. and nota homes for them. in sarasota, city commission maniers just voted to install parking meters downtown. the meters are meant to help -- commissioners just voted to install parking meters downtown. business leaders are encouraged that it will discourage shoppers from walking around and shopping. and uber is getting into the food delivery business. it is kicking off a service called uber eats in tampa today. you can go to the app, order

well. much like the atlantic. although all is pretty quiet in the atlantic basin at this moment. and here in the tampa bay area as well. here's a view from polk county. 89degrees with the winds slightly breezy coming in out of the northeast at about 15 miles per hour. no rain at this location so far today. and overall, it's been quiet for most of us. unless you live many the far southern portion of the viewing area. at 9:00 p.m., still on the warm side. temperatures in the low 80s. clouds around. when you walk up rr mostly dry. and we will be in the mid-70s. and we top out near 91 tomorrow the afternoon. and only a 20% rain chance again. so the pattern continue, still mostly dry weather for us. on the radar currently, notice south of i-4 is the only place we're seeing the activity and you have to go well south towards sarasota county and desee toe county. and that's where we have more

moisture. downpours rolling through. and toward lake placid, we have some heavier downpours with lightning within the storms as well. so tracking storms to the south this afternoon in the tropic, only one area that we're watching. this is just moved off the coast of africa and it has a 70% chance of development over the five days as it'd moves into the central atlantic. we will watch that for you. for us this even, just a few showers well south of i-4. tomorrow morning going to be beautiful again, near average temperatures and going to stay pleasant. and in the afternoon, not much rain. only a 20% rain chance. it's friday where we start to see moisture returning. so friday morning not bad though, still dry. but expect to more afternoon showers and storms on friday. the rain chances will be bumped up into friday and the upcoming weekend.

number one, a deadly plane crash two. small planes collided in midair over georgia a little more than an hour west of atlanta. both lost control and hit the ground. three people have died. number two, mosquitoes in congress. today florida congressman david jolly brought a jar of newly hatched live insects to the floor to emphasize the need for funding to fight zika virus. the mosquitoes in the jar are the kind that carry the virus. there have been several non- travel related cases in florida, including one in pinellas county. number three, bill clinton in florida. he is campaigning for his wife hillary rodham clinton.

openfully the morning and evening hours. this afternoon, yes, it's still hot. temperatures into the 90s for a lot of us. but quite that thick air, not as humid as it has been. we are sitting at 89 in zephyrhills. 91 in plant city. and 84 in wimauma. and 87 in sarasota. and you can see the cooler air to the south. we don't necessarily have a cooler air mass but more showers and thunderstorms in the southern portions of the viewing area. and that's why the temperatures are just a little bit lower. dew points, upperrer 60s for especially towards the north -- upper 60s for a lot of us. and especially towards the north. and farther south into south florida, the moisture sitting at summertime levels. for a lot of us, dealing with blue skies, just a few weather cloud, 89 degrees in land o'lakes. and on our satellite imagery, you can see the drier air across much of floridaful and we will talk about rain chances -- florida. we will talk about the rain chances for the rest of the week coming up in the full

happening around the world today, president barack obama continues his visit. >> he is having dinner with leaders of countries that are members of the association southeast asian nations. the president and other leaders are wearing long sleeve shirts of different colors, a tradition nat athe annual summit. the-- a tradition at that annual summit. an american tourist is recovering in the hospital after breaking her spine tumbling down a 150-foot cliff. she was trying to run from a man attacking her. she was found by rescuers the next morning but the alleged attacker claims it was a misunderstanding. a train went off the tracks south of egypt's capitol of cairo today. five people died and 27 were hurt. railway officials are not yet sure why the cars went off the tracks but the accident stopped train service for hours during one of the busiest travel times of the year. and this is when people are

holiday. and now news across america. american airlines now the second u.s. airline in 50 years to launch commercial flights to cuba. the plane took off from miami international airport today. jetblue had the first direct flight last week. and video just released shows a los angeles police chase ending in a fiery crash. no word on what started the chase. you can see the driver stopping. that's when the front portion of the car catches fire. the driver, yeah, i'm getting out of here. he was take into custody. police have not said what the charges will be. a donald trump supporter is so fed up with thieves taking signs off his property, he riggedded them with an electric fence unit. and now anyone who tries to steal a sign is zapped, including this woman. look at that.

today. he is miserable. so how do you know when it's a cold and when it's the flu you need doctor? >> the symptoms can be the same, upper respiratory, nasal congestion, could have. but the real difference is a fever. if you have a fever, if that's more likely to be the flu. and really you will feel like you have been hit by a truck if you have the flu. the cold, you could probably get through going to work with. >> and what's the big ne year about not having the nasal version of the flu shot? is that a big deal? it is. because in the past, our children, most children are afraid of shots and they have been giving the nasal vaccine in the past. this year, the centers for disease control is saying just don't give it at all. it hasn't been effective over the last few years and that's causing some parents some concerns. how am i going to deal with my child who is terrified now having to get the shot?

we're going to take you to breaking news we are keeping an eye on carolina. a live look right now at a palette fire. it's at a palette plant. this is from way up in the sky. the flames are very intense on the ground and we are working to find out what caused the flames. but palettes burn awfully hot. at this point, no one has been injured but we will update you as soon as we get one. a woman walking on a beach found some wacky shaped indentations in the rocks. look at.

degrees. a small 10% rain chance. and a few clouds around and by midnight, going to be pleasant. in the upper 70s with the mostly clear sky. and into tomorrow, we are starting off many the mid-70s and then we warm back up into the low 90s. going to be a great afternoon again. and rain chances still looking low. southern half of the viewing area, this is where we're more likely to see showers and thunderstorms pop up, much like today. and heading northward, rain chances about 10% or places and that's going on right now. the drier air has moved in, high pressure has built in. panhandle, north florida completely dry. into the southern portion of our viewing area into south florida where we start to see moisture. and we start to see showers and thunderstorms developing. so on the radar at this point, anywhere from an mama rioia island south through the beach, tracking the spotty rain with more headed your way. quick downpour, lightning within that storm.

thunderstorms towards lake aplacid. ifer the rest of the evening, any rain will stay south of i- 4. into tomorrow morning, near average temperatures, staying pleasant for us. and by the afternoon hours with dry air still in place, that's going to limit the amount of rain we see. about a 20% rain chance mainly south. friday morning, looks great. the moisture does start to return. may not feel quite as comfortable outside. and then by friday afternoon, a few more showers and thunderstorms will develop. and we will bring up the rain chances to about 30% or which is pretty average for this time of the year for us. and out in the tropic, quite act at this for a while. and now there's one area we're keeping track of. this is just off the coast of africa over the next five day, about a 70% chance of development. very disorganized right now. but by the weekend, we may start to see conditions improve for the system. for the us this evening, 85 degrees. stays pleasant, winds northeast between 5 to 10 miles per hour. and when you wake up tomorrow
