pasco county. he is accused of blowing up his port richie house during a drug manufacturing attempt. check out the pictures. brown grabbed his drugs when the fire started and left two caged dogs in the burning house. there was also a child in the house at the time who was not injured. brown is considered armed and dangerous and we have a crew on the way to pasco right now, we'll bring you developments as they become available. right now florida's depant protection is monitoring a giant sink hole that swallowed 250 million-gallons of radioactive water. that hole opened in late august at mosaic fertilizer in mulberry, 8 on your side discovered and broke the story yesterday, steve joins us now from the site. >> reporter: good afternoon from the mosaic new wails plant

they are flow into the aquaphor is moving slowly and it's just beginning to show up in its recovery well. the sink hole began swallowing the water in this containment pool august 27th. that created a direct path to the florida aquaphor, our source of drinking water. this recovery well is what mosaic is relying on to capture the 250 million-gallons of radioactive water. what's the risk to other pools of now doesn't seem to be growing. it appears to be stable. >> the company claims it has a network of monitoring wells to track the ground water. it contends the contaminated plume has not reached any of those. they've offered to test the wells of concerned neighbors. mosaic claims there's no threat to the public. that the contaminated water will be recovered. but it will take years to accomplish. back to you. and now we're tracking the

storm team 8 meteorologist, ed. this time of year it always seems to get busy. we have three systems in the atlantic. we'll take a look at those in a second. we have storms in our neighborhood as well. looking from iness brook. temperatures in the mid 80s. looking back toward lake land, not as much. seeing building clouds. temperatures around 89 degrees at this time. it's very warm and steamy. we're tracking a few showers we'll zoom into this storm over pinellas county there. you can see it blowing up. we have lightning strikes there. this is basically just over the northern portion of old tampa bay here. slowly trying to pushback through northern pinellas county here. we have heavy rain along 19. eventually that will work toward area beaches. activity very spotty across portions of manatee county. you'll notice how hit and miss this is. these thunderstorms have had a very difficult time holding

themselves out. in fact, that system back over pinellas county is the strongest we've had so far. julia just off the coast of north florida and the carolinas, we have now post tropical ian. it's no longer an official tropical system. and we're also tracking carl way out in the atlantic. that system will hover in the atlantic through the rest of the next couple days here. so again we'll keep the rain chances around through the evening. and that could certainly play a role in some of our high school football games as e expecting temperatures in the 80s as kickoff. can't rule out thunderstorms nearby. 80, try for the final play, we'll give you a complete check of the weekend forecast coming up in just a bit. a new new port richey auto part store is in shambles after an suv ran into it. the driver was going about 60 miles per hour. this is what's left of meyers

the suv was traveling on southbound u.s. 19 when it crossed over the median, went up and over the concrete, and grassy divider, hit a pole, and didn't stop. >> that vehicle rolls it on to sunset road. right into a building at approximately 60 miles per hour. crushing into the building. >> two people many the suv were taken to bayonet point with very serious fighting for their right to fly the american flag. school administrators say that the school has a policy where no loose items are allowed on vehicles or left in truck beds for safety reasons. according to the principal, kyle johnson, one student walked into a 2 x 4 sticking out of a truck bed and injured herself. he says he never told students that they couldn't fly the flag. >> we never confiscated any flags.

weekend, just fewer showers and thunderstorms. that's what you want to hear. especially if you're headed owe the beaches. weather wise, looking great for it. we're tracking activity out there. we have showers and thunderstorms. take a look at what's happening in land o lakes. 94 degrees. it's hot there. we have building clouds and thunderstorms off on the horizon. new port richey, 86 degrees, a northwest breeze. not quite as warm out there. but the beach is not too bad. looking like a nice ac now at saint pete beach. in sunny city center, we have building clouds out there. temperatures again well into the 80s and 90s all over the region. but still haven't seen too many showers and thunderstorms so far. but we're going to carry that chance here, the mugginess sticks around. it's going to stay muggy into the weekend. a good chance of rain saturday. but by sunday, dryer air on the way, and the tropics, still active, still officially three systems in the atlantic, 79

noon, building clouds. 40% chance of rain by saturday afternoon, temperatures at 90 degrees. but as i mentioned, right now we have a little bit of activity. a few showers and thunderstorms. now we're in pinellas county, north of olds mar. and southern pinellas county near saint pete as well. having a pretty hefty down pour right now. the activity is very hit and miss across manatee and sarasota county. a few drops here and there. highlands county, you're also seeing rain, these very slow movers. if one of these storms would venture overhead, you'll likely get a hefty down pour. still watching the tropics. still active out there. we have a little bit of dry air in the mid and upper levels. i think that's been limiting the chances here for this afternoon. we have julia, we have ian, and we have carl in the atlantic. the latest on julia, it's going to continue to meander off the georgia/south carolina coastline. eventually weakening, and then

westward track, forecast models indicate this could become a hurricane by mid-week next week. something that certainly bears watching. but for us, we're going to call for the rain chance to continue throughout the evening here, everything slides back toward the coast, a dry start tomorrow morning, and then about a good 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. slow moving,tail be dropping some heavy rain, and then into your sunday, some dryer air starts working in. so we're expecting fewer showers and thunderstorms. so tomorrow, college 78 degrees. a big matchup in louisville as florida state comes to town, 78 by then as well. looking at the gators playing host to north texas, 84, there's that 20% chance of rain on sunday. rain chances around 30% to 40% through next week as we usher in fall on thursday. showing the true life drama sully which is flying high at the box office. but can any of the new movies

carl. zooming in on julia, it's a raggedy organized system. the center of circulation, all the shower and thunderstorm activity getting sheered thanks to strong upper level winds. back at home, heavy down pours. look at that from the tower cam. looking back toward the north. be careful. you'll be running into these during the afternoon commute. 87 degrees is where we stand now. a very warm and very steamy day. the humidity has been sky high. and again still tracking areas of rain. hefty thunderstorms over northern pinellas, close to highway 19. to saint pete. headed toward bay area beaches. if you're headed along the beaches, keep an eye to the sky. you may have to jump inside here. in southern counties, it's very spotty from manatee, sarasota, desoto, hardy county, but there will be scattered heavy down pours here through the evening. 40% rain chance tomorrow. dropping to 20% by sunday. but then we'll start to ease

interest lakewood ranch, temperatures in the 80s. skies starting to darken there. looking from veterans ford in tampa, 78 degrees. we just had a shower pass nearby, mostly cloudy skies right now. and look at the dark skies from innes brook there. not the best golf afternoon. there's folks on the course. time to get inside. 80 degrees for the current temperature. as we progress through the evening, the rain chances will continue in a scattered fashion here. at 9:00, a lot should wind down and then by midnight tonight, we're at 79 degrees. then tomorrow, temperatures get back to 90 degrees for the afternoon, it's going to be warm, still steamy. but we'll have a 40% chance of rain to cool us down a bit through the afternoon. speaking of rain, we have it now, a couple decent thunderstorms developed in the last couple minutes over pinellas county, you can see storms rolling their way back towards the coastline here.
