controversy right before the first home game of the season. >> good evening everybody. i'm josh benson. >> i'm jenn holloway. thanks for joining us tonight. a man who works at a bay area middle school and coaches high school basketball is facing charges for getting a teenage girl pregnant. lamont houston befriended the young girl at lincoln middle school and had an inappropriate relationship with her over the summer. now he is facing felony charges. john rogers s nightmare. >> reporter: palmetto police say this past may, 31-year-old lamont houston began a relationship with a teen at lincoln middle school. he was a graduation education technician here tasked with helping students who were chronically absent. he was also a basketball coach at the high school. after he befriended the girl, they began texting then he picked her up on two occasions to have six in his car.

told her mother and he was arrested. close friend karl heinz is in shock. >> you would never know that it hits ohm. >> reporter: he says houston tutored kids and works in the boys and girls club. >> he is a good guy, he is out there in the community helping the community. he would never do anything wrong. >> reporter: parents and middle schoolers are in disbelief. >> we send our kids to school for an education and think th are safe. >> i find it disgusting. these kids are so young. how an adult could even fathom doing that to a teenager is disgusting. >> reporter: houston faces felony charges and some feel parents can learn a lesson from this awful story. >> i think every parent should be involved and know what your kids are doing. >> houston was booked at the manatee county jail today and a judge issued him a $55,000

charged with driving under the influence. rod carter has more on what happened. hi rod. >> reporter: hey, good evening josh. austin jenkins found himself in very familiar territory. he had been arrested for dui once again. today, when he got stopped, he was trying everything to get out of this. he told the trooper hey, if you give me your car i will send you a signed football when i make a touchdown. apologized. and he almost got away with it. but he wouldn't stop talking. >> i appreciate you guys. i'm sorry. >> reporter: tampa bay buccaneer austin seferian- jenkins was trying to talk his way out of a d charge. >> i'm a big time football fan, i understand that completely. >> reporter: they pulled him over at 275 and state road 60. he was driving nearly 80 in a 50 miles an hour zone. >> all right man. whatever man.

>> reporter: he failed a field sobriety test so he found himself in the back of a trooper's car headed to jail. after being booked he refused a breathalyzer. >> based on a previous arrest the driver had, he was supposed to have an interlock device in his vehicle which he did not have. >> reporter: asj didn't say a word as he left the lockup today, and head coach dirk koetter didn't say much either than appropriate action would be taken. >> i'm aw situation is. i haven't seen any reports on anything. >> reporter: well, that appropriate action has indeed been taken. shortly after asj was released from jail, he was released from the team here at one buc place. he tweeted out late today, thanks tampa bay. next chapter. so now he is looking for a job. josh? >> that all happened very quickly today. rod, any idea where he was coming from? >> reporter: well, all he said in the video on that dash cam

house. >> wow. interesting day for him. all right. rod carter live for us at one buc place. thank you. in concerns of waste water being dumped into tampa bay continued tonight. several people reached out to newschannel8 asking us if it is safe enough to eat fish caught in tampa bay. we spoke with the hillsborough county environmental protection commission who said the overall health of the the bay is good right now. but, a charter fishing captain also told us the problem is killing his bu >> they are just afraid to go out. they are afraid to eat the fish. a lot of them are afraid of getting a bacterial infection. so, today, i'm going fishing by myself because i have a cancellation. >> according to the hillsborough county environmental protection commission, anybody concerned about eating fish caught in tampa bay should wash that fish thoroughly before cooking. new video has surfaced showing the moments surrounding

lamont scott that has sparked outrage in charlotte. this is the first video we have seen between scott and the police. now the scott family released the video today. their lawyer says to help gather the facts of the case. jay gray is in charlotte with a closer look at what happened and what could come next. >> don't shoot him. >> reporter: after days of urging police to release body and dash cam images, today, the family of keith lamont scott shared this dramatic cell phone the police. officers urging him to drop what they perceive as a weapon. >> don't shoot him! >> reporter: scott's wife approaching the scene telling officers her husband has a traumatic brain injury. >> he doesn't have a gun. he has a tbi. he is not going to do anything to you guys. he just took his medicine. >> reporter: at times screaming at her husband. >> keith, don't you do it. don't you do it. >> reporter: seconds later, the shots ring out.

>> reporter: the new video first obtained by nbc news does not show the deadly shot as they were fired and doesn't answer all of the questions surrounding this emotional event. >> i know the expectation that video footage can be the panacea. i can tell you that is not quite the case. the intent is to get it out and release it in a package so it can be consumed and fully understood. >> reporter: but many in the community protesters calling for the police video an demanding transparency in the ongoing investigation. the march taking a turn over night. tense, but peaceful. after two nights of chaos and violence still fresh in the minds of many here as they prepare for another night of protests. jay gray, nbc news, charlotte. >> the national guard and state police will be on the ground again tonight and a curfew

one florida school district has outfitted every player with smart helmets to measure the blows. they measure the severity of impact as well as where it occurs on the head. the information is sent to trainers with alert monitors who are on the sidelines. >> when the game is going on, there are 22 guys out there. it is very had to pick out one specific blow. let alone multiple blows that >> at $150 apiece, the helmets are not chief, but the coaches and the trainers say they are worth every penny if it means keeping the kids safe. it is friday night. that can only mean one thing. high school football and newschannel8's friday night blitz game of the week. well tonight, we are taking you to the home of the plant high panthers. paul ryan joins us live from the stadium. how is it going out there before this big game?

out here josh. there is no place you would rather be than right here. number one, armwood, number two, plant. the is as big of a rivalry game as there is in this area. robert joins us for a quick interview, coach, are the stakes as high as they have ever been in the game? >> i don't really know about that. i think the hoopla and how many people will be here, all of that will be as souped as it has ever been. but you know, tobacco in the day when we were in the same district, back in the day en third round of the playoffs year in and year out. both of us could lay it on the line without fear of consequences. both of us want to get out injury free. we are both banged up a little bit. we want to say when we play each other, we are better on the other side of the game and the only way we are better is if we are still healthy. you really don't need any repercussions. >> reporter: coach, always a

that is karl, you can see on the forecast track, not a big deal, or concern for us. but still, a reporting on the 2016 season shows tropical depression lisa, 35 miles an hour winds. florida hardly on the map here. that is bermuda, so we will continue to keep an eye on the tropics. at kickoff tonight for the friday night blitz, only a few storms. most of us stay dry as we saw on th a dry commute home, that would be great for most. football weather, this is a big game right here in tampa. fsu in town. lit be a hot game there. 85 degrees with the temperature rising. gators in tennessee, that's a big one up in knoxville. 86 degrees. maybe a few lingering thunderstorms up around knoxville, tennessee. also, we have the ucf knights playing fiu in miami. 83 degrees with evening

a&m, passing clouds for this game in tallahassee. an again, temperatures are warm this time of year, we expect for this game to be quite warm too. and the rams are in town. this time coming from los angeles. not st. louis. playing the bucs, 90 degrees. this one, our opener here. hot with a 30% chance of showers, 90 degrees for that game. rpm forecast model continues to call for the possibility of a few popup showers and thunderstorms. mostly in inland areas this evening and quiet most areas will not see rain this evening. saturday morning, maybe a few thin clouds around. sunshine, mixed with clouds in the afternoon. a limited rain chance. much like we saw today at about 20% or less for the area. so, for saturday, 20% rain chance, 91. 90 in the forecast for sunday. similar, lower than normal rain chance. getting close tore our average for this time of year. a little bit higher as you head into monday, tuesday, and wednesday, at 40%. the high temperatures remain very close to the average of 88 degrees. that is falling too.

like weather here now officially in fall. if you have been cheated, when you need help, she's on your side. better call behnken. >> investigator shannon behnken is following up on a loophole, a loophole allowing somebody to renew the registration of a murder victim's car. that person drove the car around hillsborough county wracking up red light tickets and toll violations. those were all sent to the deceased man's girlfriend's home. that is when she kn better call behnken. investigator shannon behnken joins us now with an update. shannon, you can't make this stuff up. this is crazy. >> reporter: it really is jenn, our investigation got the attention of state officials. in less than 24 hours, after i brought this to their attention, they revoked the registration for this car. chelsie mosley is worried that someone is driving around in a car tied to her home address and registered to her deceased boyfriend.

>> reporter: and she is furious that dmv officials told her the only person who could fix this is the customer. that would be kirk chang and that is impossible because he was murdered a year ago. >> that is unacceptable. to get an answer like that. >> reporter: my investigation found someone drove to broward county last month, walked up to a dmv counter and paid to simply renew the registration on chang's car in chang's name. this nothing in the dmv computer warned that the real customer is deceased. i tracked down a director for the hillsborough tax collect. >> do you think this situation shows that maybe the system need to be changed? >> oh, absolutely. if it can be. if the law allows it to be changed. >> reporter: after i brought this to the attention of local and state officials, they spun into action. and now, the registration for

this vehicle ever again. >> reporter: that means there is a car out there now registered to no one, and possibly, still on our roads. mosley worries it is the perfect get away car for a crime. so i went looking for this car. i discovered the car was released to chang's uncle after his death. i called him. >> you have reached a number that has been disconnected or is no longer in service. >> reporter: so, i went to the uncle's tampa home. [ knock at door ] >> reporter: no the door. the neighbors told me this missing car has been here for a year. until lately. >> the state is also looking into a policy change that would change its computer system. the change would prevent a renewal like this one. meanwhile, tampa police investigators are still trying to find out who killed kirk chang. >> now what about the address, shannon? how does that factor into this? is she still going to get bills
