out of the east and southeast, i think that will be the key today because we are looking for more moisture and that will set the stage for even some isolated showers today. certainly not a washout for your holiday but, just a little more cloudy, than over the weekend. so it's a mild start. then by the time we get to lunchtime, clouds begin to thicken a little and certainly by the evening commute we could nothing heavy. we're tracking a line of showers and thunderstorms, i think that will move in overnight tonight and the timing could be terrible here for tomorrow's morning commute. let's check in on what is going on now. and talk about, goodness, a way to start monday morning. here's janelle with a crash on the howard johnson. >> yeah, howard frankland. we're not using wanting to start a week like this. but we have a fatal crash on the howard frankland bridge. it happened in the northbound lanes in the tampa side. you can see the flashing lights.

a man with a tow truck was hit and -- by a volkswagen, that volkswagen, that black volkswagen took off. police are now looking for the driver of that volkswagen. the driver of the tow truck was killed in this crash. we are seeing some delays, slighton looker delay. looks like -- slight onlooker delay, looks like one lane of traffic getting by. drive times, all still pretty light to get across all three bridges. clearwater, a pretty serious crash here, a car into a utility pole. roadblock in the eastbound lanes and slight slowdown on olmerton. so heave yourself a few -- leave yourself a few extra minutes here. we'll keep an eye on both crashes and have the latest here and on twitter @tampabaytraffic. breaking news at 5:02. u.s. 19 shut down for hours overnight in pasco county as

a deadly motorcycle crash near ridge road. speeding could be a factor. no one else was hurt. breaking news in tampa. an investigation underway after a deadly crash on the howard frankland bridge. janelle just talked about this. the tow truck driver is dead after another car hit him and took off. we don't have a lot of details but we do know the crash happened before 3:00 this morning in the northbound lanes near mile marker 36. the right two lanes are blocked as crews investigate the accident. we've got a reporter, corey dierdorff heading to the scene now, he's set ugging up for a live report. rescue crews in pinellas county are working to free a man trapped in a car that hit a pole and flipped over. it happened at olmerton road and carilon parkway a little over an hour ago. stay with us for updates on air

turning to a developing story -- investigators trying to figure out how a 4-year-old got his hands on a loaded gun and fired it. >> the mother and grandmother called 911. they say they don't have any idea how the gun got there or who it even belongs to. police say 5:00 yesterday morning the boy was playing with a cat outside his yale street home when he went into a crawlspace and found the gun. he brought the revolver on the porch, shot it into the ground. thankfully no one of was hurt. officers say the gun isn't registered and believe someone likely hid it under that house. 5:04. we're waiting to find out funeral arrangements for supreme court justice antonin scalia, he died saturday in texas from natural causes, he was 79 years old. >> his body being returned to virginia. officials don't know exactly where. two days after his death lawmakers are already arguing over who should name a successor. with less than a year left

spitzer hasn't commend on th allegations. deputies are charging a man after they say a man lied about his involvement in the crash. it happened near sligh avenue and route 79 sunday morning. police say robert alingser turned his car into the path of a van and was killed. at least the three people in the van say the driver ran off but later found out one of them, jorge rios ruis was actually the driver, the investigation is ongoing. the fhp is investigating a steep awareness in hit-&-run across the state. we just reported one on the howard frankland bridge this morning. it's part of a campaign that begins today. officials say last year there were more than 92,000 hit-&-run crashes in florida killing 186 people. a campaign aims to reduce the number of hit-&-run crashes by educating drivers on what their responsibilities are if they are involved in a crash and the consequences they face if they

campaign, you can attend a news conference today at the bradenton fhp office at 10:30 this morning. a florida medical student believes he was infected with the zika virus is on a mission to educate women about the illness. the first-year medical student from florida international university was on a medical mission in his native country of haiti, when he says he got a bad headache and rash all over his body. this is november before officials warned about the virus and its link too birth defects. the 27-year-old is using his firsthand experience to warn others about the outbreak especially pregnant women. >> i knew i was sick so i thought it mighting another kind of disease but back then i never heard of it. it's heartbreaking for mothers who are pregnant, must be terrifying to have that possibility. >> after about four days and trip to the doctor he recovered from his illness. so far here in florida doctors

zika virus in eight counties. as the state ramps up effort to fight the virus governor scott is now directing the state's surgeon general to activate a zika virus information hotline. that hotline is going to be managed by the florida department of health and will answer questions about the virus and also the state's preparedness efforts. the number to call if you have questions is 855-622-6735. 5:08. tampa bay lightning fans learned about the heart this valentine's day thanks to a one of a kind inflatable display. portable exhibit called the megaheart at amalie arena and this heart is definitely mega. it's 26 feet tall and 13 -- or 26 feet long and 13 feet tall. there it is. largest vein in the heart and artery.

out who attached a bomb to a rental car. investigators say it was attached to an avis budget rental car. a mechanic saw it when he put the vehicle up on a lift yesterday morning. a bomb squad later disabled the device. it didn't affect flightsaged everything is scheduled as normal today at the airport. officials are not commenting on whether this was an act of terrorism. they say they will try to track down the last person who rented the car. new this morning, police in australia announcing what they are calling the biggest liquid meth bust in their history. they seized some $700,000 worth of the drug brought from hong kong. police say narcotics were smuggled in raw inserts and art supplies. investigators found part of the shipment in december, leading them to a storage facility where they found more meth and eventually arrested four suspects. 5:14. trimming trees is a dangerous job and one oregon man is lucky to be alive after being pulled into a wood chipper over the

into the chipper after his harness got stuck in tree limbs being fed into the chipper friday. miraculously his leg tripped a safety bar at the last moment and it shut off the chipper. officials say the blades were just inches from his head when the machine stopped. he still broke his leg and also suffered a head injury but he's alive. into tram cars dangling 40 feet morning. pictures you see from inside the trams that got stuck. at a new hampshire ski resort over the weekend. officials say a service brake issue stopped the aerial tramway leaving those people stranded in below freezing temperatures for much of the afternoon. rescue workers later repelled 48 percent to the grounds one -- passengers to the ground one by one. one woman says it was a harrowing experience but said all the passengers stayed calm and no one was hurt. one official says he doesn't believe low temperatures caused

still investigating. good morning. we're following some breaking news, a tow truck driver has been killed on the howard frankland bridge. police say he was hit by a driver who was driving a black volkswagen, the driver of that volkswagen took off, so they are right now trying to find him. this happened in the northbound lanes of the howard frankland bridge, heading into tampa. now cars are getting through in two lanes of traffic, one lane is blocked, we are seeing a slight delay, again this could be like this for a while, because of the -- it's a fatal investigating. we also have a very serious eastbound olmerton road and a serious crash again, roadblock reported in the miles an hour leading up to the crash. no need for a detour yet because the detour is lengthy, you have to take roosevelt to through here.

frankland, you can follow me on twitter @tampabaytraffic for the very latest on both of these crashes. so ivan, we've had a very busy morning in the traffic department. how's the weather? it's going to be busy with the traffic and weather tomorrow morning. that is when the heavier showers and thunderstorms should roll in. today the start is pretty good. upper 50s to lower 60s. no need to bundle up -- as much, unless you're supersensitive but right now upper 50s to low 60s. mid-70s by later today. i think titan will begin to show showers this afternoon. not this morning, with the southeasterly wind that wilt be moving -- will be moving in. then we look upstream. our next good shot of rain coming in overnight tonight and into the early part of tomorrow. likely through the morning commute. we'll watch that. southeast wind today, more cloud cover than yesterday certainly and we'll see the isolated showers beginning to pop up through the afternoon

now tomorrow morning, in fact overnight tonight this is what we have to deal with, you can 3:00 and 7:00 a.m. we'll have that line of showers and storms roll through with pretty good downpours. but i think the severe weather threat remains to the north, well to the north in the panhandle but otherwise we're looking good. low to mid-70s. that is going to feel nice with partly sunny skies and again, if you're doing anything outside i think we're good. it's just isolated showers, it's tomorrow morning that we have the heavier band of showers and storms rolling through. and watch this, after that, sunshine and temperatures, back to where it should, for this time of year. as we start that milder trend. late week and heading into next weekend, full sun, highs in the mid-70s. renowned puzzlemaker taking skills to a new level. >> he created the biggest fully

we start this 5:30 half- hour with bringing news after a deadly morning on bay area roads. florida highway patrol now searching for the driver that ran over a tow truck driver on the howard frankland bridge. >> fhp not telling us too much at this time. only around 2:30 this morning that tow truck driver was loading a car on the back of his truck when he was struck by a black volkswagen killing him. the driver of that vw took off, fhp is now looking for him. if you have any information you should call the fhp. once again they are looking for a black volkswagen with heavy front end damage. there's quite a scene now at the crash site. if you're heading out the door you need to know that the northbound traffic, inbound to tampa, is severely impacted. janelle is standing by and will show you how to get around it. this is affecting the northbound lanes, still early so not a lot of cars out there. i did just check your drive
