one we're following breaking news near lakeland. >> the bodies of two people and a dog near a home that was shooting flames from the windows. >> abc action news reporter lindsay logue is live near old polk city road. started? >> reporter: not yet. of hours. here's why -- number one, it's still very dark and it's tough for firefighters to actually see what is going on. but number two, take a look at home. it is charred from end to end. just a couple of minutes ago we heard the fire hoses on, sounds like they are continuing to put

this mobile home. firefighters and investigators are already here, started this investigation. again as you said witnesses called 911 but by the time firefighters got here they say fire had already destroyed 3/4 of this home and found bodies of a man and woman inside and one of their dogs died. another was injured, two dogs are ok. again still very early on in this investigation. they ever not released the names of the people who died but i can tell you the state fire marshal is already out here. has already begun this investigation. of course we'll know much more in a couple of hours especially once the sun starts to rise, they can get a really good picture of what happened here overnight. again just a very tragic scene in lakeland. we're going to be live all morning with the breaking details. i'm lindsay logue live in polk county, abc action news. good morning, we're starting with milder temperatures and more humidity as a cold front begins to move in.

temperatures now, mid-60s court courtesy of that southwest pushing warmer air in. readings still in the 70s for later on. inverness now 63. brooksville 57. that is running 11 to 20 degrees warmer this morning than we were yesterday with the rest of us certainly feeling that. by lunchtime patchy sprinkles, that's as most as we're going to get, a brief light shower with the front as it moves through. then we're back in the lower 70s. another front we'll talk about, for friday but now let's check in on the roads. good morning. most people heading out now won't have trouble getting to where they need to be. some construction that is in the clearing phases. one construction project won't wrap up until 6:00. i'll get to that in a minute. first corp. first -- corey dierdorff is on 275 heading towards dale mabry southbound in the tampa area.

memorial highway to 275, it's clearing. i just saw them picking up the cones so you have a smooth ride on 275 in hillsborough. in pinellas, 275, the southbound ramp we've been talking about, 54th avenue south is blocked so you're going to want to use 22nd for the next hour. this is the end of the project though. they are supposed to wrap up this morning. so don't have to worry about that anymore. elsewhere on the interstates, in great shape, all in the green, veterans, 275, i-7 5 heading southbound towards tampa look good this morning. back to you. time 5:03. breaking news in democracy 2016 -- as the votes are still rolling in, within just the last hour ted cruz getting the final win of super tuesday in alaska. in a tight race with donald trump. as projected trump and clinton won most of the states and delegates. first on the republican side donald trump takes arkansas,

virginia, massachusetts and vermont. ted cruz did win his home state of texas, also oklahoma. alaska finally. and marco rubio takes a state. he won minnesota. take a quick look at the democratic side. hillary clinton extends her delegate lead over bernie sanders, she won seven states. arkansas, alabama, georgia, tennessee, massachusetts and texas. sanders did win four states, colorado, minnesota, here they are, colorado, minnesota and oklahoma and his home state of vermont. that was expected. this is of course all setting the stage for the florida primary. coming up at 5:30, how some of the candidates are now planning their campaigns around the sunshine state. meanwhile some democrats are sharing a strategy they are using during this primary. it's called rating. with the ultimate goal of winning the general election. they switch parties and vote republican in the primary. many of the primary votes are going to donald trump.

easier to beat trump instead of marco rubio. >> we're probably be nominated but i don't think he'll beat hillary even though i prefer to vote for sanders. >> the democrats tell us they switched parties to vote against trump simply because they don't want trump to win. the venice day care where four toddlers and employee were injured after a car crashed into this facility is closed this morning. in fact it's going fob closed for some time. those children are now being sent to other centers. troopers say yesterday morning a grandmother dropping off her grandson at the academy of creative learning thought her car was in reverse, instead she hit the gas. her volvo slammed into a sipedder block wall. inside 15 kids were being read a story. thankfully all the kids injured only suffered scrapes and bruises. >> the big picture is everybody walked out and is safe. that's all that matters. everything else can be repaired. >> because of the damage the

facilities for the next several weeks. the driver was cited with careless driving and driving on an expired license. meanwhile in volusia county authorities are looking for this heartless thief, they say he grabbed a box full of cash from a 12-year-old girl scout and ran. surveillance cameras snapped this image of the man outside of a walmart. officers say he snatched the cash and hopped into a waiting car nearby. 5:06. a judge weighing this morning whether to charge a former lakeland football player with a hate crime. officers say 24-year-old stewart butler beat up two gay men kissing on a street corner in west virginia. it happened last april. he was dismissed from the marshal university team following his arrest. pleading not guilty to several violations. the judge's decision is expected in about a month. daytona beach police are trying to track down the person who posted this picture to facebook of a dog with its mouth taped shut. that picture started surfacing over the weekend.

claims that the dog was being disciplined. the person says the tape was stretchable allowing it to come off and on without injuring the animal. now police and animal control officers are trying to determine if they will file any charges. a pasco county deputy is out of job after accusations he broke the law. steven leblanc could possibly face criminal charges. the sheriff says the ex-deputy targeted a nobody drug user and investigators say during a vandalism arrest the deputy had another man plant drug paraphernalia in his bag. a neighbor is praising the sheriff's decision. >> i'm very excited because if you're going to be a law enforcement officer be a law enforcement officer. don't be a crook. don't be a dirt bag. and fight for my rights as a citizen. >> neighbors say the deputy may have targeted parisi because he spray painted walls with anti- law enforcement graffiti. more bay area communities

trafficking problem. these signs in english and spanish are already posted at nail salons and rest stops. meant to alert possible victims ways to get help. today leaders in hillsborough county will consider a measure that would require more signs. a similar measure went into yesterday. florida ranks third in the nation when it comes to human trafficking cases. we're tracking a front that is moving through later today. i'll have the details on what that means for of the extended forecast coming up. coming up, after months of dropping gas prices we're now seeing prices start to rise at the pump. coming up, we'll look at how high they could go and also what is driving up the prices. >> it doesn't take much for someone to look at this video and see it's too much. >> police make several punches in a matter of seconds. what they say the suspect did leading up to the brutal

good morning. 5:12. morning commute. part of the morning commute. i-275 at i-4. no problems out there now. smooth sailing, janelle is in, watching the traffic cameras and she'll have a full look at the morning commute coming up in a few minutes. right now we have an update on the man who kidnapped his ex- girlfriend and their two kids. and then led police on a chase in southern california. authorities now have thomas wano in custody.

stop last night. he got away monday night by running into a hillside near a park. police say his girlfriend had a restraining order against him, on monday though she sent a message to a detective saying she was being held against her will. she and the two kids though weren't hurt. caught on camera, a police officer near charlotte, north carolina, is seen repeatedly punching a man even while pinned to the ground by other officers. an internal investigation is underway to see if the officers used excessive force. it happened yesterday when police arrested a hit-and-run suspect in an apartment complex, the officer is caught on camera punching the guy at least a half-dozen times. police claim he fought back but witnesses say he complied and didn't appear to be resisting. >> the video makes me very upset. the officers are repeatedly hitting this man. it doesn't take much for someone to look at this video and see this is too much. >> police say the only injury that this man suffered is a small scratch on his arm but

got the scratch in a collision or from being punched. internal affairs is now investigating and also talking to witnesses. new video of the damage from alabama coming into the newsroom after a possible tornado near birmingham. emergency officials confirming at least four people with injuries, the storms hit yesterday evening, no word on the victim's conditions but two of the people did have to go to the hospital. crews are still assessing the damage to homes, we do know trees and power lines are down. i talked to ivan a little while ago. you said this storm system is here now but not quite as strong as it was. >> much weaker than when it moved through yesterday or we would be in a whole different mood here. just patchy sprinkles, it's kind of falling apart. certainly as it rolled through yesterday -- remember we were talking about the super tuesday forecast and how this was going to be impacting our good friends across the southeast? well birmingham, upwards of

all been from the same parent cell. we'll survey the damage today, national weather service will and will let us know as far as what happened there as far as the intensity. it's a damage scale so they have to look at debris, by that they can determine what winds caused the damage. the front is weakening as it moves through today. for us that means just mostly cloudy skies, a couple of showers, then we're looking pretty good as we head through tonight. at arrows depicting a south wind, bringing us a little more moisture. you can feel the humidity this morning. then we'll begin to clear out as we head through later in afternoon. dry air begins to move in, i think we'll be in pretty good shape, look at the temperatures, it's been a while since we had temperatures in the mid-60s. feels nice, more spring-like. inverness 63. you were in the low 40s yesterday so much cooler. and we'll continue to track futurecast here, but chunk of dry air tomorrow, nice. then another weak front comes in friday setting us up for a pretty spectacular weekend.

70s in the forecast today. by the way the fronts are not going to cool us off during the day. it's mostly going to be felt at night. there you are, back in the 40s tonight and 50s once again. boating conditions look good, northwesterly winds 10 to 15. there's your 7-day forecast with temperatures in the mid- 70s, looks good, make your weekend plans. i know you'll be out there, 75, 76. then 80 degrees as we head through the upcoming weekend. the traffic also looks good for the most part. no real crashes or breakdowns. corey dierdorff is driving around on i-275 in pinellas county. he's around 54th avenue north. he's on his way to check out that construction at 54th avenue south. it's supposed to be closed, the exit there, the southbound exit, until 6:00 a.m., he's going to let us know as soon as it opens. let's buckle up and take a drive down 275 from the apex. all the way down in the green on 275 heading south towards downtown.

open in both directions. continuing on into the downtown area, the junction, all in the clear, no problems there. that drive is going to take you 13 minutes, average speed of 66 miles an hour. 5:17. expect to pay a little more if you're going to fill up. experts say the price at the pump is an average of 8 cents higher this week than before. some stations i noticed jumped 20 cents overnight. it's expected to keep climbing. why? greg, a senior petroleum analyst says it's because refineries are switching from the winter to summer blends and the change helps cut back on smog and pollution, also bumps up the price. crude oil prices also rising. experts say it won't be as high as $3 a gallon this year. >> i think conservatively we can expect to see prices peak between $2.25 and $2.40 a gallon, in that area. >> he says you can use those loyalty cards to get the price down a bit.

here's a consumer alert to be aware of if you shop at whole foods. a popular cheese brand may have listeria. because of that the supermarket chain is pulling may tag raw milk bleu cheese products from all its stores. while no listeria cases have been reported yet the disease could be deadly. the sell by dates run between january 20th and may 21st. you should throw the cheese away if you bought it. if you've ever wondered what your pet does all day when you are at work or school there are a growing number of gadgets to let you not only watch them but even talk to them if you need to. devices like these here, will even let you give your pets treats. one device even lets pets call their owners with a push of a

incredible damage out there. we're finding out what witnesses say happened at this lakeland mobile home. lindsay logue is out there, talking to neighbors and authorities and will go live to her coming up in a moment. first, ivan cabrera, janelle martinez here with traffic and weather together. >> more humid if you stepped outside and milder too. temperatures in the mid-60s now. looking, well, we have a front coming in, that is why. southerly winds now have i can at that -- taken over. mid-60s. feels more like spring, with mostly cloudy skies. the front is weakening. so all i'm expecting is a lot of cloud cover, a few patchy sprinkles. that is about it. that goes through the early part of the afternoon. then we will get into this chunk of clear air. eventually it will dry us out again and cool us back down. so this time tomorrow these temperatures, current temperatures are going to be much cooler. temperatures now holding in the 60s. even inverness 63. where yesterday you were in the low 40s.

just a few sprinkles and then we'll begin that clearing process as we head through 4:00. again no significant rain for the morning commute so i think weatherwise we're in pretty good shape. let's check the volume, any crashes out there? we have some great news, corey dierdorff checking on that closure at 275 and 54th avenue south telling us it's back open so it ended about a half-hour early. you are good to go there. and traffic up to speed on 275 over in pinellas county. traffic also up to speed here at 275 through downtown, just six minutes from here to the howard frankland. we have one crash reported now, in largo, i'm not seeing any roadblock or any delays here but it's at ulmerton and ridge roads. this just happened so you may see emergency vehicles, be careful if you're heading in that direction. let's check drive times on i-4, starting all the way back in the lakeland area around county line road, taking 22 minutes to get into downtown.
