time later without stealing anything. investigators think they made it back to holiday where they tried to steal bikes before getting scared off. now they are hoping someone will recognize them from the surveillance video taken at the 7-eleven. >> we always ask for the public help because of the violence that was demonstrated and the fact that the public is at risk until we apprehend them. >> reporter: the sheriff's of are rare in pasco county. the victim did exactly the right thing, not just giving up the van but running away for help. >> the property can be replaced. lives cannot. >> reporter: if it ever happens to you, do the same. detectives say the carjackers are likely from the area, holiday or tarpon springs. as for the van, the owner got it back without a scratch. eric waxler, abc action news.

the head. new tampa, a student uses a steak knife to stab a classmate multiple times. state department of education data shows that 788 weapons were recovered from bay area schools during a two-year period. that's an average of 2.2 weapons per day and a total of 285 schools reported having at least one weapon. if you look at the map, all the red dots represent schools that had at least nine weapons confiscated. if you look at hillsborough high, it had a total of 18. at this pinellas county public housing learning resource center, kids know more than they should about weapons in schools. >> they talk about it a lot. >> what do they say. >> it's dangerous. >> do they see fights and weapons. >> yes. >> how does that make you feel?

>> reporter: dominique goes to bel-air elementary school where police responded three years to a false report of an active shooter. the report turned out to be a prank call from a student at the school but bel-air had six real weapon incidents, more than any other local elementary school. sugs middle school reported a gun and eight other weapons. >>cool have a lot of gangs in manatee county. that could be an issue as well. >> would bring a gun to school. >> bullying. >> reporter: students tell police they often brought weapons to school to defend themselves or frighten away attackers. >> we don't want any report of weapons brought on to the campus. one is too many. >> reporter: in pinellas county, school resource officers are on high alert, identifying troubled kids before they bring weapons to school. >> we computer control what a

beach. you can see as you look out to the west, all is great. it's a beautiful day at the beach. we're in for a stretch of amazing beach weather. if you're planning to go any time this weekend or the middle of next week, you're good to go. the only thing you have to worry is between 8:00 and 11:00 at night, not in the morning. there are the storms in polk county, claremont, back over to leesburg and up to kissimmee. eventually moving into eastern hernando and pasco county. if next 15 to 20 minutes, you will see it. temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. out ahead of the rain, low 80 82 in bartow. 89 at the airport in tampa. clearwater 89. st. pete comfortable with sunny skies, checking in in the middle 80s. there's the satellite. we're locked in with the east to southeast rainfall. the mornings are sunny and warm. the afternns are sunny. most of the rains don't pop up

come to the coast. most of the time the heaviest rain is east of i-75. tonight, same thing. the heavier rains we have seen from polk county and north. but as this moves west, it will start to weaken. so by 10:00, 11:00, maybe even midnight, lingering showers. most of the area dries out. but the clouds will be around. so don't even think about looking for meteors before midnight. not to mention the moon doesn't set until 1:00 once the moon goes down, around 1:00, 1:15, more darkness in the sky. from around 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., it should be good meteor viewing. as i said, you may not want to stay up late. you may want to get up early. you should plenty of darkness and see plenty of meteors. tomorrow, we're back into that summer pattern that a lot of us appreciate, especially if you
