you idiots. >> reporter: hours later brown and several of his friends funneling out of the house and searched by police. this isn't the singer's first run-in with the law. in 2009 brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to five years probation, a year-long domestic violence class and six months community service for assaulting his then girlfriend superstar rihanna. brown completed that probation early last year. overnight, tweeting thank you to everyone for their support and well wishes. chris is out and well. the allegations a against him a demonstrably false. brown was released after posting $250,000 bail. now we've also learned overnight that curran is wanted for questioning in new york in a grand larceny case. according to the new york police department she and a friend are accused of stealing a wallet from another woman. amy. >> all right.

correspondent sunny hostin. sunny, there is a lot to weed through here. how bad does this look for chris brown? >> well, it certainly looks bad, amy, because we are now seeing what seems to be a history of violent and abusive behavior starting with the 2009 assault on rihanna. he did serve many, many years of probation, approximately six years, that probation was lifted in march of 2015 just last year but only after he violated that probation for in a washington, d.c. hotel in 2014. and so we're seeing this over and over and over again when it comes to chris brown and that is not a good place to be in the criminal justice system. we see recidivism very, very often when it comes to violent and abusive behavior so yet now another complaint about this kind of behavior is going to be looked at very, very closely by prosecutors reviewing the case. >> speaking of seeing chris brown we saw a lot of him

instagram rants. what do you make of those and from a legal perspective what do they do to the case? >> you know, i think prosecutors are going to look at it. let's be clear. he hasn't bee formally charged yet. his arraignment is going to be september 20th. i did reach out to his attorney my good friend mark geragos who says these allegations are completely false. but i think that it's very fascinating that social media is possibly going to be used as evidence in this case or at least reviewed by prosecutor, not only alleged defendant post it. ray jay was in the home and posted on instagram saying this was false then the alleged victim also posted on instagram indicating that this was true. and so, you know, i think we're seeing over and over again the clash between technology and social media and the law and that being used as evidence. we saw it very, very clearly in

sunny hostin is back and, sunny, turner getting released for good behavior but still seems surprising given the debate about his sentence. >> i don't think that it's not only surprising, i think it's outrage that people have about this sentence, george. i mean, the bottom line is he's only going to spend three months in a jail cell for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a garbage dumpster. i think we can all agree that that sentence is way too short. is it going to serve three months out of the six months? no, because in california, basically they have this prison realignment going on so most inmates only serve half of their sentence. >> there was no discretion from the judge there on getting out early. >> no, there was discretion, the prosecutors recommended six years. he was facing 14 years but because of the judge's discretion in this case he only was sentenced to six months,

this case. i think there's this legal loophole in california that now is going to be closed. >> right now they're going to tie to close that, i understand lawmakers in that state just passed a new measure in hopes of addressing cases just like this one. tell us about it. >> that's right. what is remarkable is that under california law, up until this time, amy, you could rape, sexually assault an unconscious person and not have a mandatory prison sentence. the judge had a leniency but a lot of discretion. now 66-0 vote, a bipartisan vote, california lawmakers have found it's going to be a mandatory three-year sentence for this exact behavior. sending a message to sexual assault victims everywhere that they matter and that people that sexually assault must spend three years in prison when the victim is unconscious.

good morning. we're following some flooding in st. pete. look at this, the off-ramp from 275 southbound to 54th avenue south. look at the flooding here. this ramp remains closed. we had more than a dozen cars stuck on this ramp at one cars out of the way, but again still seeing some flooding there. they've also shut down the northbound on-ramp from here on to 275 as well. and 275 through st. pete still moving pretty slow. we also have two crashes and high wind advisory on the sunshine skyway. we are seeing some backups here. you can see it in this camera just before getting to the hump in the northbound lanes, definitely taking 30 minutes or so to get across the sunshine skyway. the other bridges moving slow

this kind of morning we're having. 15 minutes across the courtney campbell, 12 minutes across the howard frankland. 9 minutes across the gandy bridge if you're in pasco heading to downtown tampa, at a crawl both 275 and 75. ivan, we've had reports of other flooding in the area of st. pete, 6th avenue? madison circle getting reports there of standing water. you can certainly imagine that. this is not our typical morning showers. this is a little more hefty, tropical downpours that could put down several very short. a time. we'll have the results we saw this morning that continue. in fact over that flooded area it's pouring now and we have more where that came from. notice the movement as well as south to north, that tropical moisture coming at us from our tropical depression out in the gulf which is still forecast to move to the north. then east and hit the big bend as a 60 to 65 mile-per-hour storm, that would be for late thursday into the very early hours of friday as it continues

changed. heavy rainfall through today into tomorrow even on friday with the potential for coastal flooding as well as that water gets pushed in from the gulf 1 to 2 feet. we'll keep an eye on that. as far as the forecast today, on and off rainfall and it will be heavy at times with temperatures holding back into the low 80s.

we're following the flooding situation in pinellas county. we still have a ramp closure southbound 275 to 54th avenue south. you can see it closed they've also shut down the northbound on-ramp. avoid that area, use 22nd avenue south if you're heading south on 275. 275 through pinellas county pretty slow, also jammed on i- 275 through hillsborough. this is what it looks like at fowler. we're showing about an hour to get from the apex into downtown tampa. your drive time on the sunshine skyway starting to improve. we had a crash a little earlier, that seems to be moving out of the roadway. now down to 15 minutes to get across in the northbound lanes on the sunshine skyway.

good morning. we still have standing water that is closing the on and off ramp from 275 to 54th avenue south. you can see them blocking the roadway there. you're going to want to use 22nd avenue south instead. no word on how long that will be closed. we're also seeing other flooding throughout pinellas county. we have one report here in clearwater and gulf boulevard at gulf view boulevard. some flooding in largo at bond road closed at wallingham road. reports they had to pull a car out of the flooding. if you approach or see standing water in the roadway do not drive through it. we're also watching a crash in hillsborough southbound dale mabry at gunn seeing a pretty good backup on dale mabry. if you can make your way to the veterans expressway that is moving great this morning. they've opened up a third lane at gunn, that is really helping out. very crowded here, i-275 at fowler, it's taking 15 minutes just to get from busch to
