or let us know that. >> it's a pretty big sink hole. >> that's a big sink hole, yeah. >> reporter: as action air 1 flew over the sink hole, we watched the live stream of the abc action news app. >> my first impression is that this the simple size and the depth of that sink hole, it's obviously -- it must have been a large void. >> reporter: usf geologist phillip ben ennham reacting in real time. >> do with all of the rain that we have had, with hurricane hermine. >> it is possible. think of the sponge as the florida aquifer. it's porous because of the limestone. think of this as the stack, the storage facility where the sink hole is now. it's leaking. and you pour the water on top of the sponge. and what happens? it gets saturated and all of the dirty polluted water is leaking through and penetrating the aquifer on the other side. look at the stain.

>> reporter: the doctor believes that the contamination will be confined to the immediate area near the mosaic plant in mulberry giving people like james reason to ask questions. >> i noticed the guard shack going up and blocked off the dirt road. and i thought to myself, what is going on. >> let me put it in motion for you one more time. that sink hole is estimated to be 300 feet there tonight. we know this thing opened up three weeks ago. and tonight we protection why did it take so long, three weeks for the public to be notified. as of news time tonight, they don't have an answer. we reached out to the governor's office and waiting to hear back from them as well. i keep checking my phone. we will update you when we get the answer. it's not the first time that there's been trouble at that plant. adam walser has been looking at an agreement where they agreed

epa brought up concerns of a sink hole at that plant, putting the facility on notice that it needed to come up with a plan to protect the environment. in the original complaint, the. epa says they failed to dispose of hazardous waste at the facilities in the bay area and louisiana. that settlement involved how mosaic stored and disposed of 60 billion pounds of hazardous waste, about 250 of the world's largest cruise ship. in the 600-page decree, it refers to the new well's plant specifically saying, quote, mosaic shall investigate reasonable methods to reduce the volume upon water in the main cooling pond that would be lost in the event of a sink hole. the agreement gave mosaic two years to come up with the plan. that was in september 2015. i'm i-team investigator adam walser taking action for you. >> thank you, adam.

50 others. st. petersburg police arrested fourteen agers for breaking into another unlocked car. 18-year-old bryant sanders and three other teens broke into five vehicles early this morning on 12th way north. they managed to swipe two guns from one unlocked vehicle. police caught all four and returned the guns to their owner. also in saint peter d'oench officers are on the -- in st. petersburg, officers lookout for this man. he cashed a fraudulent check at chase banks. officers say he was driving an older model lincoln town car. if you know who this guy is, call the st. pete police department right away. and pasco county deputies asking you to be on the lookout for steven brown. he is responsible for the first hash oil explosion in pasco county. investigators say he and some

port richie earlier this month. two containinged dogs died -- two cages dogged died in the fire because he grabbed the drugs instead of saving the animals. a 1-year-old child was also in the home but did not get injured. the navy is blaming a crash on a pilot. jeff kuss died in the crash back in june. he lost control of the jet because it was traveling too fast. investigators say he failed to recover because it was too low for performing. the navy's report also cited pilot fatigue and cloudy weather for contributing factors. uber will continue operating in hillsborough county. the transportation commission is moving forward with a plan that would require uber drivers to undergo fingerprinting and background checks. uber is offering a temporary agreement that would make those fingerprinting checks voluntary. in exchange, uber would perform

links between doctors and the problem. the drug problem is so bad that president obama declared next week prescription, hernia bruce week. you don't have to look outside of the bay area to see the impact. the manatee county morgue is actually over capacity and performing a record number of autopsies because of the overdoses. jake peterson shows us how much this epidemic is costing taxpayers. >> reporter: body of a young person comes into dr. russell's office, he wants to know what drug they're using: he has seen a huge spike of dead drug users using heroin or fentanyl. the increase started happening in the last three years. >> heroin deaths for the whole district were typically in the single digits. now we're seeing numbers higher than that just in one month.

we want this controlled. >> reporter: reporting in manatee county, jake peterson, abc action news. >> a new survey showing fear over the zika virus is hurting the happiest place on earth. 400 people either canceled trips to disney or decided not to go because of the zika virus. 50% of the people were currently planning trips answered the survey. there is positive news. doctors at a philadelphia lab are testing a vaccine approved for human trials. they are giving people. it's entirely synthetic, meaning that patients are not given the actual virus. they will determine when and if the zika vaccine can be used by the general public. we know when samsung will be replacing the note 7 phones. the company says it will have new phones in stores by next wednesday. exploding lithium a. >> dan: n batteries linked to 26 people burned and 56 pieces of property damaged.

samsung is offering gift cards, accessory credits and bill credits. an 8th manatee was just rescued from a golf course pond in crystal river. they have saved 7 from the spot yesterday. they went back today to see if they missed any and they found this male calf. the flooding from earlier this month caused the manatees to be stranded in the pond. all of the manatees were released back in the gulf today. >> what a great everybody who got them back to safety today. >> hermine. still teaing the effects from that. >> yeah. the good news is that the rain coverage over the next couple of days continues to be low. hopefully that will help things out there. main sail beach inn looking okay. we have a nice mix of sunshine and some fair weather clouds there. although we have had showers and storms across sarasota county. we are seeing lots of dry spots.

over central pinellas county. most of hillsborough county is pretty dry. and as we look around rye and into manatee county, we do have some heavier downpours. it's just hit or miss across the area. nothing that is too widespread. pretty much on target with what you would expect this year. temperatures are in the low 80s right now. you can see clearwater reporting a little bit of rain out at the airport. we will continue to see the hit and miss showers and bubbling up for the several hours in fact. we will have a chance for rain after sunset tonight, all the way through to midnight. take a look at futurecast. you can see this is a little overdone. we're not seeing as much rain. but the lighter green tones is where the rain isn't reaching the ground. the heavier downpours are on target with what we're seeing on radar at the moment. through 8:00, we continue to see the rain bubbling up. again, not terribly widespread but a decent amount of coverage. we will have isolated heavy

at night. so we're not completely dry until after midnight. even at midnight, we may still see a lingering heavy downpour. tomorrow morning, 7:30, looking dry from the coast all the way into polk county and highlands county. sebring, arcadia looking good to start the day. if you're planning on a bike ride or need to get yard work done, earlier in the day is getter temperature-wise and also on the dry side. by almost noon, we start to see a little bit starting to bubble up. and it bubbles up quickly. i would say anything that you really need dry weather for, try to get it done by about 11:00, 12:00 tomorrow. otherwise all bets are off at that point. by 6:00, with he see mainly inland showers and storms. so the beaches are looking decent at that point. although we will have some chances for some storms tomorrow afternoon at the beaches. it doesn't look le a washout at all. if you'rplanning a round of

to start out earlier if you can. and any time after noon we will see the showers and storming bubbling up, more widespread by 4:00. with a high of 90, definitely want to get the golf in a little bit early in the day. about 40% coverage at the peak for tomorrow. on sunday, down to 30%. and then those rain chances really go up at the beginning of the week. we've got more available moisture, some of it may end up turning out to be from remnants of julia, believe it or not. it will dry the week after the front pushes the moisture out. rain unlikely in the morning for tomorrow. we will have the heaviest rain east of tampa bay through the afternoon. on sunday, there is a chance for coastal showers and a few afternoon showers and storms. that's florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. jamison and wendto you. >> thank you, shay. take a look atthat re. pretty crazy out there. investigators say a pickup
