"welcome officers steven kendall & ashley gwin-den who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this weekend. be safe!" less than 24-hours-later... officer gwin-den was dead. "she was not only driven and passionate, but exceedingly intelligent. she struck us that way as we interviewed her, prior to hiring and rehiring her, it's always the type of officer we are seeking, that type of passion and intelligence." officer gwin-den -- and two other officers -- were responding to a call about a domestic disturbance at a home in woodbridge, virginia. that's about 20 miles south of washington, d.c. police say -- when they approached the front door -- the suspect opened fire. all three officers were hit. officer gwin-den died at the hospital. the other two are still there -- recovering. as for the suspect -- staff sergeant hamilton surrernded without further incident. when officers were finally able to search his home... they found his wife -- dead. they also found the couple's 11-year-old son... scared, but not hurt. hamilton's now facing several charges. including -- first degree murder of his wife... and capitol murder of a police officer the suspect is due in court tomorrow morning.
