candidatesstill have to get their supporters to the polls. this has been the most expensive governor's race in illinois history with both candidates spending $100 million combined mostly on negative political ads. and they say it's still close to call which is why the governor and the republican challenger spent yesterday and we can't crisscrossing the state appearing at rallies and trying to broaden their base. >> a we going to increase the minimum wage? are we going to get jobs for working people? if you are breathing we want you working in illinois. nobody left out. >> we are going to improve the economy, we are good to get the best schools, we are going to send this cronyism right out of springfield. >> in addition to the governor's

race, voters will be deciding who will be going to the u.s. senate, congress comes the legislators and the county board. as well as several of valid questions that are up for decision this time around. if you have not registered to vote, coming up, i can tell you where you can still register to vote. i will have that information in about half an hour. live in lake. back to you. >> robo-calls. a number of chicago judges started getting the calls friday. they were told they needed more training or couldn't work polling stations. it gets worse...some were told they needed to vote a certain way to work. the calls could lead to some polling places opening up late because they're afraid to show up. not clear who's behind the calls. >> clearly an unauthorized phone

call that did not come from the board of elections. miss information. and we believed it is malicious in nature. >> i've seen many things happen in cook county. this does not surprise me. the system and try to circumvent the system. >>elections officials sent out e-mails to judges that told them to ignore the robocalls and to show up for work today. nationally, control of the u.s. senate is at stake, as republicans and democrats try to convert voter *sentiment into actual *votes. andrew spencer reports, the fate of the senate may rest on just a handful of states. >> the republican and the democrats are locked in what is expected to be one of the closer contests today. on the could go to a runoff in january. a december runoff could also happen in louisiana. but democratic senator kent her seat against the republican. the midterms are all about the races, local contest the big national implication. republicans could shift the

walking to their car. it happened early friday morning at lake and halsted. the men took off in a light or gold-colored four-door car. highland park police are investigating a deadly police shooting at a local hospital. christopher anderson and his nine-year-old daughter hospitalized after a car accident sunday night. a hospital employee called 9-1- 1 a couple of hours later, saying anderson was being aggressive. police say when they arrived, anderson pulled a gun and refused to drop it. that's when officers shot him. an autopsy is scheduled for later today. a bolingbrook teenager, accused of trying to join the terror group isis has been ordered held until trial. federal prosecutors say mohammed khan poses a flight risk and is a danger to the community. khan also tried to bring his two younger siblings with him to syria. the three were stopped at o'hare last month before they could board a flight. a teenage boy is charged with arson after his home caught fire in prospect heights. the fire happened early yesterday morning. the boy's parents and three siblings got out. police found him later at an apartment in arlington heights. they didn't give any other

details since the boy is being charged as a juvenile. the chicago cubs' new manager says the ball club has been going through a rebuilding process. and now it's time to show the *results of that rebuilding. joe maddon was lured away from the tampa bay rays, and signed for five years as the cubs' new skipper. he says, with the new ownership, new front office management, and now the new and improved roster, the cubs are ready to chase the big prize. >> why would you not want to accept this challenge in that city in the ballpark with these circumstances, it's an extraordinary moment. >>in nine seasons with tampa bay, maddon took his team to the playoffs four times, won two divisional titles, and went to the world series once. remember all that wind we got friday. well it's gonna cost a few hundred thousand dollars to repair the lakefront trail. high waves ate up parts of the lake shore bike path, leaving behind massive chunks of asphalt. crews started cleaning it up yesterday. some of the hardest hit portions of the path were closed. the chicago park district says it plan to lay new asphalt today in the most damaged spots.

sunni tribesmen have been captured and executed by "isis" in recent weeks. some of the victims were women or children. and the pentagon says, the numbers are probably accurate. "isis" targeted the sunni albu nimr tribe, which is known for its fighting skills. the state department condemned the attacks, and said america and its partners must work together to destroy "isis." two more air force nuclear commanders have been fired, and a third disciplined, as the air force confronts a leadership crisis. the number-two man at warren air force base was dismissed, for "a loss of trust and

confidence" in his leadership. and a missile squadron commander in minot, north dakota was relieved of his command. last year, nine officers at malmstrom air force base in wyoming were fired over an exam cheating scandal. baseball's alex rodriguez was reportedly blackmailed by his own cousin who threatened to go public about using performance enhancing drugs. rodriguez admitted to receiving drugs from his cousin, yuri sucart, in 2009, when he was a texas ranger. the new york daily news reports that court documents from last week describe how rodriguez paid sucart 900-thousand dollars to keep quiet. sucart is a defendant in the federal case against drug provider "biogenesis." rodriguez, whose suspension from baseball just ended, did not comment. president barack obama has signed a disaster declaration for a lava flow that's threatening an hawaii town. the lava flowing from kilauea volcano has slowed, but much of the damage has already been done. the president's disaster declaration opens the way for federal aid. the federal funding will supplement state and local recovery efforts. no homes have been destroyed and no injuries have been reported.

zone during the ferguson protests, was not just to keep the media away. saint louis county's police chief says this was a temporary restriction to keep people safe in the air, and on the ground. he says there were credible threats that would target helicopters with rifles and lasers. this comes after the associated press reported that authorities wanted to keep the press from showing the chaos from above. caught on camera, a man kidnapping a woman on a public street in philadelphia. it happened sunday evening. now, a ten-thousand dollar reward is being offered for the kidnapper, and help police catch him. the victim is a nurse... and the abduction took place, just a few blocks from her home. a witness says, the woman screamed for help... and when the man shoved her into his car, she shattered two windows, and dropped her cellphone and glasses on the street. the mayor's plan to expand a chicago public schools preschool program is drawing mixed reviews. praise... for its goals... and criticism for how the program would be paid for. mayor emanuel has proposed borrowing the money through social impact bonds. the money could pay investors a return of about 6-point-3 percent... roughly doubling their 17-

million-dollar investment over the next 18 years. emanuel wants to enroll 26- hundred more children into a pre-school program over the next 4 years. it's no 'death star' but plans for the new george lucas museum will definitely make it stand out. this is how the lucas museum of narrative art will look like, along the lakefront in about four years. the 400-thousand square foot complex will stretch from mc- cormick place to soldier field. inside will be four movie theaters, an observation deck, and displays. the chicago plan commission will be among the groups reviewing the lucas museum's plans. a british pop star paid her doctor a visit. katie melua said she was hearing strange noises in her ear. he took a look... and she tweeted that what he found was stranger still. a spider chilling out in her ear canal. katie believes the spider may have been on ear buds she uses to shut out noise on airplanes. the doctor removed it using what katie called "a micro-
