walking and i tried to grab her, but it was just -- it hit her side mostly, but it was a really hard hit. she was going very fast. >> jessica said the bus had its lights flashing and the stop sign was out. she rushed to help the 15-year-old who landed at her feet. >> once i saw her on the ground i got my stuff and i asked her if anything was hurt or if she could move. she said her leg hurt and her arm hurt. she was just talking just right back to me. she was aware of what was going on. >> jessica's mother heard her help. she talked to the driver who hit the girl. burnell says the woman claimed to be an ex bus driver. >> she was a mess and she was like she seen the lights were on, she said but she was just so close that she couldn't like come to a sudden stop or slam her brakes on. fast. >> the teen is a junior at whitman-hanson regional high school. she was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries to her arm and leg.

but relieved the girl is expected to be okay. >> police say they're investigating. it's unclear if the driver is going to be cited or face any charges. in whitman, nicole. >> police are looking for a thief who stole a snow blower out of someone usa yard. you can see him actually trying to move the machine. police say he later walked off with it. police are asking anyone with information to go ahead and give them a call. >> we're getting a new look at image of el faro the cargo ship that sank during hurricane joaquin. family members of the victims on board were also given an update on the ntsb's investigation, but they are still looking for answers to find some closure. >> our families often wondered and it flashes in your mind what if -- what it move been like. certainly that's one of the most troubling things is we try to find closure.

police say the student was groped and slashed in the face by an attacker while walk to go school wednesday morning. it happened in queens and authorities have released surveillance video from before and after that attack to help catch the suspect. >> out of nowhere a random brutal attack that leaves a teenager discard for life. police released this surveillance video which shows the suspect running away after slashing a 16-year-old girl with a box cutter. it happened in queens new york when the girl was on her way to school around 8:30 in the morning, but she never made it to class. >> we have a young lady walking to school. she's an asian female, she's 16 years old. as she's walking east on 13th avenue near 147th street she's a accosted from behind with an individual with a hood up. he's wearing a surgical mask and has surgical gloves on. she's slashed in her face twice. once from her ear to the middle of her throat and the other part of the face as well. she's at the the hospital now, long island jewish.

with a knife. the officer says that man lunged at him and that's when he shot the suspect -- that's when they shot the suspect six times killing him. >> suspect making quite a withdrawal in illinois, the surveillance video shows an suv back back into a convenience store window, shattering the glass, the two men get out of the car and steal the atm that was inside. they dragged that atm up and into their car. police are still searching for the suspects. >> a good samaritan shot to death trying to attempt to stop a robbery. you can see him buying a lottery ticket. that's when two men storm in with guns. the victim charges one of the suspects grabbing his gun and the other suspect shoots him to death. that father can't believe what happened to his only son. >> he was a good kid and he didn't leave. he was always telling what he was doing and what he doing. he came up here to get a ticket. a dam lottery ticket. that's what he came up for. i've done seen so many things played again and never thought it would happen to me.

police recovered a gun at the scene. they're still searching for those two suspects. >> a con man who lost his daughter during the sandy hook shooting is now a grammy nominee after losing his daughter three years ago jimmy green channeled his grief into song lyrics. he called the album a beautiful life to spread her message of love. he received two grammy award nominations earlier this month, but making the album, green says, wasn't easy. >> i remember writing some of these lyrics with a face full of tears. it was very very emotional and it was draining to do at times. >> green says his son isaiah has also found comfort through music after his sister passed away. he plans to follow isolated showers musician. >> still ahead, the special gift from an anonymous donor that has a nice ring to it.

much of the new england only picking up 5% of what we typically see on average precipitation wise. here is a radar of wall of green. back through the south shore as well, cape and the islands, once in a while some yellows begin to go mix on in. back through rhode island, down to con. this is embedded heavier rain. back through bridge port, con, down into new york city as well. you note the movement. it's all moving off to the northeast. we're in it, staying in it, the wetted weather that is, over the next several hours. there's a back edge to it just west of new york city, so i do expect this to start taper off between 10:00 a.m. tonight. >> so far it's not impressive, about two tenths of an inch of rainfall we'll continue to add on top over that over the next hours and any localized heavy rain not doing any favors to the evening commute, that's for for sure. >> visibility, locally dense out in worcester. bedford seeing a visibility of 1 mile. visibility is reduced as well

and there's that spring like 52 in boston right now. 54 down in marshfield. 40 degrees. so we have this mild weather trying to work in right along the coast line and south of the mass pike as we speak. with that is the rainfall now we go into the overnight hours tonight past midnight. we start to dry things out and then we watch for another quick moving system tomorrow to ride ride along this front. although i don't expect such rainy this evening. >> look at this saturday morning. cold air rushing in over the great lakes. lake effect snow kicking in and feet of it down wind of lake ontario and lake erie and some favorite spots one or 2 feet of snow. a couple of these snow showers like toll make their way into the mountains of vermont. there may be a renegade in our in

closer to the boston metro area on saturday. that is it, though. that's the closest thing for any snow for christmas i see the pattern does favor mild air once again by the time we get into next week. so rainfall totals again, close to .5" expected in the city of boston. localized higher amount down through southeastern mass could pick up about 1" of rainfall back into buzzard bay. temperatures not moving much tonight. we'll hold the temperatures mid 40s in the city of boston. maybe a few upper 30s north and west and holding closer to 30 degrees down in southeastern mass where it will be the warmest tomorrow. temperatures running mid 50 to say lower 40s. isolated showers or otherwise a cloudy day. seasonable weather, just in time for the winter solstice on monday the mild air returns and sticks with it through the week. >> all right. so we just saw krista talk about the forecast and the rain moving in. let's get a check of the roads now. a wet one.

you work your way down towards the coastal roadways. we'll start on the expressway southbound down to -- you can see the reflection of lights, certainly acuff ride. more than an hour commute now on route 93 from downtown boston. right now toward the braintree merge of route 128. making your way along route 93 brake lights toward the camera. coming up towards medford and eventually up toward 128 and it's been slow going. headlights are heading southbound dealing with delays on the expressway. as you can take a look. a lot of brake lights in both directions. right up into the city and along route 120 ought out through the newton area. northbound making your way up towards route 20 in walt -- >> scientists say a new blood test

actually saved lives. >> it's still early but very promising news. >> chances of surviving ovarian cancer are excellent if it's detected at an early stage. the problem sits rarely caught early. there either aren't any symptoms or they're incredibly vague like blowing and abdominal pain. there is a blood test that tests for it called ca125, but experts recommend against it, because it's never been shown to lower the death rate and has too many false positives. >> now for the first time a major study of more than 200,000 women in the uk has found screening for ovarian cancer is beneficial and can save lives. the researchers used ca125 in a new way. it's a mathematical calculation that accounted for risk factors like the patient's age and then tracked how ca125 levels changed over time. they found the test helped reduce the number of women dying from the disease by about 20%. >> now, you won't see this blood test in your doctor's office any time soon.
