granted by tv winter weather very down on new england. -- barreling down on new england. making its way up to the northeast. the bay state bracing for round one of the winter season. >> and national weather service already issuing a winter weather advisory starting tomorrow night but tonight we're getting you ready for the storms. preparations and the extreme weather barreling through texas and heading this way. we have 7 team coverage. and storm not nearly as threatening as in texas. deadly tornadoes leaving a path of

begin with chris here. what can we expect? >> reporter: we do expect quiet weather tomorrow. cold air moving in. that will set the stage for winter's mess here on tuesday morning. winter weather for most of the area with the exception down through buzzer's bay. too warm down that way. couple of showers out ahead of a cold front this evening and then it dries out overnight and the cold air setting the stage for when this storm system now through texas moves into the midwest. the front end will push a warm front with a lot of moisture into the cold air in place. in term ozf the -- terms of the timing of the snow, we'll talk about 1:00 to 4:00 in the morning. it's after midnight but early on toorz morning -- tuesday morning. then sleet and freezing rain during the morning commute. by the evening a lot of us just seeing wet weather and rain out there. see the forecast model 3:00 in the morning. snowing for a lot of us as the snow

between 7 and 11:00 in the morning from south to north we transition to sleet and freezing rain. in the city of bostonen by 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning. wind coming in off ocean temperatures. won't hold snow very long. by midday still freezing rain and sleet possible. but a lot of us have changeed over at that point. could get a slushy, up to an inch in boston. then just west of the city, 1 to 3. again on top of this snow we're going to get sleet and freezing rain. i expect messy conditions tuesday morning. highest snow totals across the northern mass and southern new hampshire. more on the 7-day forecast ahead. new englanders not taking any chances. let's go to kelly live with more on the preparations underway.

temperature will drop. and tornadoes continuing to tear through texas. at least 11 people killed in this extreme weather and hundreds of home damaged or destroyed. john live for us now in the newsroom with more on this wild weather. >> reporter: national weather service says the twister that slammed the city of garland was an f-4. that's the second most powerful rating. a path of desstruction near dallas as tornadoes touch down terrorizing residents for hours. five people killed in garland when the fierce winds swept their cars off i-30 home -- homes and lives ripped apart in seconds. >> it was terrifying. heart breaking. especially the day after christmas. >> i can't believe this amount of damage was done. probably 30 seconds. it felt like a

>> reporter: building materials flew through the air piercing walls. south of dallas more destruction. 40 homes damaged but no serious injuries reported. >> i'm thankful to god all of my neighbors are alive. >> reporter: during one of the most busy travel times of the year, a full ground stop was ordered at dallas/ fort worth airport. rescuers were flooded by roads and power outages. mornings may have saved -- warnings may have saved many more lives. but for those who came through the storm, a long road to recovery lies ahead. >> it's going to take a lot of time and effort. >> reporter: nugz to the loss of -- in addition to the loss of life, 15 people were injured and 600 structures damaged. we're following breaking

stabbing inside a jamaica t station. one person was stabbed at the jackson square station after 4:00. police are still looking into what happened and have not released any information about the victim's condition or any arrests. and a developing story right now. a serious concern for customers at quincy credit union. the bank responding after dozens of customers say they were the victim of fraudulent trabz actions. right now the bank is restricting all debit cards until monday at noon and the credit union will return any money as soon as possible. a tough loss for the patriots. the game coming down to a flip of a coin. >> reporter: it has

even gets a chance to touch the ball. patrick hitting decker for the walk-off touchdown. jets win 26-20 in overtime. more live from met life stadium. >> reporter: hey. matthew slater trying to clear up some of the confusion as we talk to him post-game. he said there was not much to it. they did what they wanted to do and they wanted to kick off. when they won the coin toss, they kicked off. >> i just ask them three or four times to make sure i'm not the guy that says, we won a kickoff. so i double checked three our four times. i think he was saying, are you concussed? that's what we wanted to do. you never question the coach's decision making. he is the best in the business. we trust him. that's what we did. >> i think we all have confidence that whatever coach decides we have to go out there and do our job and do the best

high temperatures earlier this afternoon all over the place from the mid-40s up in southern new hampshire and the low 60s. hit 50 in the city. 12 degrees above the average for this time of year and the numbers now -- year and the numbers now not all that changed. 48 in boston. 52 in wooster. the visibility okay this evening despite a little bit of rain at times. you can see a couple showers moving through down route 3 from penbroke to

showers roll through the city of boston. couple of scattered showers to the north. just a few light rain showers out there. and then we'll dry out overnight tonight. it does turn colder overnight and a bit of a breeze out of the north and the colder air dropping temperatures into the upper 20s and lower 30s. but the temperatures below freezing arrive long after any precipitation is done. i don't expect any snow or ice tonight. mostly sunny skies tonight. much colder day. mid to upper 30s with a fresh charge of cold air moving in from the north. that will help set the scene for a winter's mix. follow the line. follow the front all the way back to the ohio valley. it's an extension of this system. this area of low pressure working through texas on the east side once again. severe weather. this time farther east of dallas but on the eastern edge of texas.

conditions. this area of low pressure will push into the midwest and an extension is a warm front. laelt overnight monday. early on tuesday. as that pushes into the cold air we get the snow to break out. any time between 1:00 and 4:00 on tuesday and the commute start watching the transition over to sleet and freezing rain. 10:00 in the morning, a lot of us transition to sleet. so the snow is not going to last all that long. but we'll get a period of snow and freezing rain along the coast line. and by the afternoon most of us down with the -- done with the ice. just wet weather in the afternoon. especially along the coastline. even in the city of boston, right along the immediate shoreline, tough to get an inch of snow. the east wind will jump the temperatures well into the 30s if not lower 40s. north and west of bostonen

and sleet or freezing rain on top of that. and 3 to 6 inches with that 6 more likely as far north as you go. 7 on 7 forecast, little bit of rain wends night and early thursday. but first night in boston looking dry with temperatures in the 30s. heads is the call. heads is the call. it is heads. we want to kick. >> reporter: just like this. cleveland wins the toss. they elected to kick. >> reporter: yeah. you heard the right. the pats electing to kickoff in overtime. you play to win the game and they never had a chance to do it with head coach electing to put defense on the field and not give tom brady a chance to win it in new york.
