matter. dan hausle, 7 news. >> sarah: dan, thank you. a car slamming into a wall in the o'neill tunnel. wow. this happened this morning during the height of rush hour. the driver taken to the hospital with minor injuries. no other cars were voched. but this accident did tie up traffic heading north. there are three powerball ticket-holders, saying show me crowds flooded the store in southern california after learning it sold one of the winning tickets. the $1.6 billion jackpot will be split by winners in florida. but some people here in massachusetts also have something to celebrate. charlestown. where there is a million-dollar winner there. >> reporter: sarah, it sounds like they have an idea of who the winner is here in charlestown. they say it was someone who used to live in the area. this is also the biggest prize they have ever sold here. people are wondering who

's steve cooper is at the courthouse and joins us live. >> reporter: right so. melissa benedict was in court. she is a mother of two of a nine-year-old fns and a four-year-old. she was in handcuffs. and she was also wearing a hoodie over her face.

today to the charges. covering her face with a hoodie, 34-year-old melissa benedict of dorchester pleads not guilty to charges of motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. . >> she stopped about 20 minutes after the accident. >> reporter: surveillance video shows her driving away in a minivan she was operating for vhs transportation. wednesday morning along washington street in dorchester that claimed the life of a 43-year-old man. prosecutors say the construction worker was crossing the street when he was struck and killed. benedict's smashed-up minivan was located four miles away in mattapan. benedict's attorney says her client has no record and is a mother of two young children. >> she stands before you with no record. i have spoken to the family. she has many family members in the courtroom fbs. she has aunts, uncles, her sister and brother are both here. >> reporter: family and friends say this is all completely out of character. and it looks like she is

>> i mean, i'm not exactly sure what i'm listening to. what they were saying in the courtroom. i'm like, no. there is no way she did that. she must have been in shock. she had to have been. she panicked. she didn't know what to do. >> reporter: steve cooper, 7 news. >> sarah: a home goes up in flames in taunton. a fire broke out in the multi-family home. several people were inside. flames were intense, as you can see. victoria warren is live on the scene with more. of the night and a lot of people were sleeping. and take a live look behind me. you see that there is some extensive damage to this home. that is because the fire got trapped in the walls. we spoke with two men driving by. they heard somebody screening for help.

showing up, though. some snow across nantucket. did have a heavy stream of it coming in off of long island sound. this was the cold air lined up perfectly across long island sound. that created that ocean-effect snow band right across martha's vineyard a couple of hours ago. that band now fading away as there was a couple of snow showers over to nantucket. otherwise, some clouds offer to the west of us. more of these clouds late overnight tonight and early tomorrow. this area dropping into the northern plains. and then this area coming in from the gulf of mexico. that will combine to bring us the next storm in here. and this will arrive saturday morning as rain. and stay mostly rain. although there may be some higher terrain snow mixed in. even inside 495. a few wet snowflakes mixed in, so be it. it is predominantly a rain event, though, for a lot of us. could get an inch or two across northern worcester county, southern new hampshire. been getting a lot of big snowstorms... we are not getting a big snowstorm for

here is kris anderson. >> we set my fence. do the landscaping. we will all be happy. this house is pristine. the lawn. the bushes. everything that's here is fixed just so. >> kris: a neighbor's power problem turned his front lawn into into an eversource construction zone this past summer. >> i came back. all of a sudden, they were digging in the front of my house. moved the fence. moved the bushes. this is where they dug down. as you can see, that whole corner is kind of sunk in now. and broken away where they had to cut to get into the ground. >> kris: the crew chief promised everything would be repaired. >> they gave me a flyer and said, if somebody isn't out in two weeks to fix your property, this is the number that you call. >> kris: two weeks passed. no work was done. jerry called the number on the flyer.

police station that as he showed up for work. the officer says the individual had a muscular build, over six feet tall and long arms. they described him as shirtless man wearing blue sweat pants. they say that he scurried through the lot where the cruisers were park. then went to the back of the police station, the police-only entry and without warning or provocation, the individual abruptly got down on his knees and placed his hands behind his head. the officers said the individual was looking for help and assistance. they say they brought in the paramedics and that the individual, jones, mentioned that he left his keys at home. police say and quoting here, "officer went to the house and found the door open. he knocked on the door and called out. on entering the kitchen, he observed keys on the kitchen counter. while in the house, he noticed the smell of burnt marijuana." the statement from the police

notified the paramedics. that led up to the radio conversation you heard about class d being found in jones' apartment. there is further description from the officer elsewhere. and it talks of jones making a beeline for the police station's rear door and without warning or provocation, getting down on his knees, interlobbing his hands behind his head. the officer says, "like a man trying to surrender. he was literally as stiff as a board. he was both upright and rigid." they said that the man showed the same movement of praying or worshipping at times. trying to get up, the movement, the motion repeated at least twice. then the officer says that the man's face was against ground and he turned to watch me as i approached him. we asked this man to identify himself. we asked him to tell us what

according to the document, this man stated "i'm chandler jones." he kept telling us he had been told to come to our police station. mr. jones was unable to provide us with a plausible explanation. it was quite evident mr. jones was desperately seeking our assistance. and this is interesting here. and i quote "he had certainly not committed any crimes nor had he violated any laws or town bi-laws. mr. jones was not armed. he did not have narcotics on his person or in his possession." it says "even though at times mr. jones... there is a few words deleted there. he still managed to be polite, cooperative, and respectful." they had mr. jones evaluated by the foxboro fire department

he did not rezins. nor was he argumentive or confrontational. he say thed he was going to do whatever we wanted him to do. very interesting details about chandler jones' interaction with police. obviously, actsing in a confused manner, as we had heard previously described. with more indication that is he was polite and cooperative all along the way. and while an officer at his house observed the smell of marijuana, there is no comment about fining any narcotics in the house. and specifically, they say there were no narcotics found on chandler jones or around him and no laws were broken. we continue to go on with this information. and we will have more for you as the day goes on. that is part of it for you. >> sarah: all right. dan hausle there. very much developing story.

>> sarah: we are staying on top of breaking news. the foxboro police department releasing new details about the incident involving patriots star chandler jones. in an incident report released moments ago, officers say that jones was shirtless when he was found in the station's back parking lot early sunday morning. police say he was making a beeline for the police-only entrance. and that he dropped to his knees and put his hand on his head. officers say he looked like he according to police, an officer went to jones' apartment where he noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. jones was taken to norwood he was back at practice on incident. of course, we will have the full report on our web site.
