6:14 pm
a scary surprise in quincy. a close encounter with this, anen ered and potentially dangerous timber rattlesnake lurking outside of a home on grove street. stacy comb who lives there says she hadn't heard anything about it until a neighbor told her. i was in the area of our house that had ac to keep cool and had no clue what was going on outside, but little scary, i couldn't believe it but right before you came i had a friend that isn't a link and i was watching a video and it was my house, so >> anchor: once quincy police confirmed it was a rattlesnake they didn't waste any time for the environmental police to come in and take care of it. certainly not something they see every day. very rare we find rat health snakes but they are there we had some up at the pine hill cement and anything that abuts the blue hill verier vision. >> anchor: quincy police chief also thinks our current drought may have had something to do with this scary situation. sometimes when there is a drought or possible drought
6:15 pm
down to where there is possibly water. so we had a small drought in massachusetts that may be why they are coming to the more populated areas. >> anchor: although sightings like this are extremely rare, comb said she is actually glad she missed it. i am very happy i didn't see it and i will never take my trash out again. >> anchor: so once the environmental officer got that snake under control it was transported back to its natural habitat in the blue hills and released. >> anchor: warm and muggy with scattered showers and storms. the weekend forecast is coming up next. >> anchor: coming up next in 7 sports, we have some good news. mocky bets is back in the lineup but he does not have full medical clearance at this point. the red sox are keeping a very close eye on him.

>> reporter: all right, showers, storms and downpours, we do need the rain but this is a little too much rain right here. providence kent youry in rhode island. brand new flash-flood warning out in those locations until 9:00 this evening. slow moving thunderstorms with tropical air, a lot of rain likely in a short amount of time. also a severe thunderstorm warning in those same locations and extreme eastern edge of this polygone here right in west central bristol county but there
6:19 pm
yes, we had some lightning and we had some rain but it's not considered anything severe. there will be the showers and downpours that drift southeast toward the south coast. metro boston, merrimack valley nothing right now. but as we look upstream here you go along the route 2 corridor as well as the connecticut river valley. another clump of showers and thunderstorms activities barreling down the route 2 corridor. several other wave of showers and storms lined up through central new york state so the risk is going to be southern new england. i think up until about 11:00 tonight to have scattered showers and storms. not saying that for the next five hours we'll have that because we won't. we don't have it right now and between hot and humid, temperatures are in the upper 80's, the high was 98 in the city. that happened earlier this summer but this didn't. dew point temperatures close to 80 degrees. almost unheard of for southern new england. it still feels like 97 in boston beverly it feel like 100. there is a cool front on the map
6:20 pm
as this front comes in through the back door late tonight and through the day tomorrow. here is the cooler air. it will be temporary because i think the front goes right back up into northern new england on sunday. so the weekend forecast again a lot of clouds tomorrow, temperatures not as hot. a wide range in temperatures. 73 to 83. 70's at the coast and beach is not a great beach day. but not a washout either. only an isolated showerment sunday we are back into the heat. here did you tomorrow again in boston, norwood 85. worcester 85 and then on sunday hazy, hot and humid across much of southern new england, boston on sunday 95. bedford at 95. sunday will be your day for the beaches and the pool but watch out for an isolated storm sunday evening. monday still not but not quite as humid. we'll have an update on those storm at 7:00. see you then. >> anchor: there is good news and bad news when it comes to
6:21 pm
form. second in the may injures and era this month but the bullpen, that's another story. third worst august era in the big and coming off two straight late inning melt downs. mookie betts is back in the lineup tonight for the start of a three-game set with the diamondbacks but his status moving forward bears watching. the knee soreness that popped up late last month is still around and john farrell and the red sox medical staff are going to have to keep an eye on it going forward. the one thing with involved in the knee. so as that increases we're going to have to back off if it does increase so all of the images that has been done, it's not because of a structural damage or injury that is caused that so we're having to monitor it closely. >> anchor: he didn't exactly come out firing on all cylinders but the number from jimmy garappolo's preseason debut got better as the nice went along of the patriots quarterback
6:22 pm
no picks, no scores and no doubt plenty of room for improvement. we still have three preseason games so it's hard to judge but you think we're going in the right direction. as an offense, as a team just we have to take it one day at a time one practice at a tim and we'll be where we want to be by the end of the preseason. three of garappolo's passes went bennett's way of the tight end serving as a security blanket in an of rob gronkowski, julian edelman and danny amendola. he is getting comfortable in foxboro and with those cheering him on in the stands. fans are nice so, they are nice people, so they say my name. people say it wrong but it's cool. they call me smart-list. i said just call me marty. it sounds like a greek god.
6:23 pm
. >> reporter: he has the right altitude. team u.s.a. leading the pack in the medal count with a total of 43. china in second with 36 and japan in third presently with 25. >> anchor: staying at the games where bubba wattson is getting it done on the links. he throws this in reverse and take a look at that. drops it in for an eagle. elementary my dear wa bubba's beauty gets our play of the day. and the bills locking up quarterback tie rod taylor with a five year, $92 million extension that includes a guaranteed nine and a half million dollars in salary this season. that's sports. >> anchor: thanks so much, joe. >> anchor: 7 news at 6:00 will
