he is down in orlando looking at new satellite gear. he's all excited. like the budding flutist going to band camp. he's so excited, it is a new doppler 9000. >> something we'll never understand but he'll explain it. so he's headed out to orlando. by the way, if you're near the new york shake shk, it is phenomenal but it goes to feed children. >> i'm going to get me one soon. tamron, i've got a lot of feedback for the last two days that we've been on. people are saying mostly that we look very funny, the three of us, sitting at a small desk that apparently we're cracked and looks like parents at back-to-school night. i noticed that the desk is the same, it is the two of us now. >> no, no.
10:02 am
>> which is part of why -- al, he's got tiny man spread. you're like -- man spread. i'm closed in. you have broad shoulders, then you wear shoulder pads. >> what am i? larry king? >> alexis carrington from "dynasty." joan collins. that's what it is. this table is the ppe it's -- your -- your spread. >> all right. listen, you're right about these. these are ballet thighs. they don't cross. >> no, that is an excuse. so in new york, if you ever get a chance to visit, they have a campaign. you should know this since you are new to new york and the subways. they have this whole campaign telling men to knock it off with the man spread. that you just need this much space. there is no reason -- i can't spread it.
10:03 am
can't just go, this is all my room. >> listen. i just can't do it any other way. i've tried. i will stretch, i'll do some yoga. >> cross your legs, for pete's sake. >> getting to know you, tell me something about yourself that maybe nobody knows or not many people know? >> where did that come from, billy? >> i don't know. maybe i'll be surprised, maybe i won't be. >> here's the bac of times in the hallway. >> once. >> once. yeah. one time in the hallway. we're both like, like two tornadoes going through. i said this is like speed dating because essentially we were put on this desk monday together. >> oh, yeah. >> i wikipedia -- i googled you. did you google me? >> no. i figured i'd ask you. >> you didn't google me? >> no. i want to hear what you say, not what they say. good answer, right? >> okay.
10:04 am
>> don't believe what you google. >> hey. i filter through so i feel like i know a lot about you. we were in our meeting this morning and billy asked me a very personal question. like over the line. it was based on something i said because we were with the producers i've known for two years and i let my guard down. then billy went in for the kill. basically it was a question about my personal life and i said, i don't know you like that, that's exactly. so something you don't know about me and you didn't watch the show really a lot because you were working in l.a. and you were on "access." >> right. >> something, something, something. >> you were a dancer. >> can't dance. >> you were a poet. >> didn't know it. >> didn't know it. . >> athlete? >> i was an athlete. ran track. started running my whole life. started running at age 4.

10:06 am
but yesterday's outfit it is like a whole new life. there was a moment, billy and i -- i look like peewee herman's black sister. >> in capri sweats, by the way. >> you had on your macho man -- >> i had my little blue, you -- blue state, red state. >> we were doing push-ups. this was not just to -- this is a fitness test here. people started captioning. th had to say about this picture of us together. >> i like this picture. >> "when your shoes don't match your outfit. #fail." i know my shoes didn't match! those are the only ones i had in the studio. >> holly says i'm praying that we don't have to wear these outfits again. >> i gave mine to my niece. andrea said, tamron definitely wore it better. that's right, andrea.
10:07 am
>> you won that one. stewart says pretty sure you're wearing a bud light can. >> that's very good. gerald says screech still trying to impress lisa. >> that's funny. >> bravo. here is a video we saw this morning. i love this. i think this is fantastic. i played team sports all my life but what you are about to witness is an accomplishment like no other. this is the syracuse men's soccer team in the locker room. stick with it. we are going around the horn. we've hit four players, that's five players, the ball has not touched the ground. we've got seven. eight. can they possibly make it all the way around the room. this is incredible. the brazilian men's team just won gold. i'm not sure they could do this. do they maybe it the entire way around? tamron, look at this. these guys are about to explode.
10:08 am

10:23 am
it was an 8-year-old girl waiting outside one of your tv shows. she was so beautiful. the name was so beautiful, but the character jolene is not that sweet, innocent girl. who is this venomous woman? >> actually, i kind of over exaggerated a little bit. when my husband and i first got married he was flirting with this beautiful girl down at the bank. he was making some sort of a deal with her, he says. he was just enjoying a little bit too much. i got jealous. you know how we are. of course she had everything i didn't like legs. big, beautiful hair. >> she didn't have everything. >> she had lots of stuff. but seriously. so i just i was kind of -- beautiful name with the little girl. so i just kind of wove it all around. it's been my most recorded song. other people record it all the time. >> what do you feel when you perform with, for example, katy
10:24 am
you on stage. what's that like for you? >> it touches me that i had some sort of influence on a lot of young girls coming along. so it makes me feel good. and that they kind of look to me for a little bit of guidance as girl singers in the business. so i've just been around a long time. so i'm happy to get to sing with those people. kind of helps me career now. >> you got keith urban doing it. you got jack white and the white stripes doing it. >> everybody does it. >> what's your favorite version, non-dolly? >> of "jolene"? >> yeah. >> i think miley cyrus did a wonderful job on "jolene." she sings it all the time. we did it at a duet at the 25th anniversary at dollywood. >> so that means you don't have a favorite of other people singing it? >> i like them all. when you write songs, you're just proud that other people do them. i'm intrigued by all the different variations and the
10:25 am
but i think i have to say i really like miley's version. >> how about that little 8-year-old girl. i wonder where she is. >> well, i got a letter from a little girl that thinks that that might be here. >> hold that thought. we'll get to that when we come back. much more from dolly after your local news. >> yeah. she sent me a picture. a picture. mr. clean gets tough on dirt and grime and grease in just a minute mr. clean will clean your whole house floors, doors, walls, halls he's so tough, he cleans'em all grimy tubs and tiles he'll do so your bathroom looks clean as new mr. clean gets tough on stuck-on stuff cleans kitchens in a minute. mr. clean will clean your whole house and every room that's in it. mr. clean, mr. clean, mr. clean! if a denture were to be put under a microscope, we can see all the bacteria that still exists. polident's unique micro clean formula

we are back with one of the biggest superstars in the world today, a living legend, the great dolly parton. dolly, we just talked a second ago about the little girl, jolene, whom you named the song after. >> yes. >> so you got a letter from somebody do you think it's authentic? >> might be but she said her name was jolee. but i might have misheard. so i'm not sure. might not be the right one. i'm going to research it. because i always wanted to know. >> you find out, you should reveal.
10:31 am
real jolene. >> sweeps. that's the huge reveal. >> i'll check it out. >> dolly, i want to know how you became so open. one of the quotes that people will come to me and say, you look so pretty in that dress. i say it takes a lot of money to look this cheap. obviously that's a famous dolly parton quote. i probably say it every other day of my life. how are you so open, especially being a woman when it is easy for us to show plastic surgery, things we may do to look as goo >> well, why not be? people ask me things. even like about plastic surgery. somebody say why do you talk about it? i say i probably wouldn't if i didn't get caught. first time i ever had anything done they were hiding in a dumpster in the alley so they got a picture. i thought well, i can't very well deny it. thought i might as well just tell it. seriously, i think it is important because i am just that
10:32 am
goo doctors and make sure you are doing the right thing. don't just jump out a dumpster and think you are going to get some doctor there. but i've always had good doctors. tried to. >> you are more famous for how open you are about that and other things than for any assets or anything you might have done to yourself. when you go out on the road and you are doing this tour now, largest in 25 years for you, is it an evening with dolly? do you talk and tell stories and bring people in like that? >> i do. in fa stuff -- we have a lot of laughs, just like i always use that joke, "cost a lot to look this cheap." but i try to add some of that little humor and things just to keep the mood light. but i love the people. i feel like it's like a family reunion. i never met a stranger. i love those faces loving me. so we just have a little love fest. >> you said earlier you were surprised because songs have not
10:33 am
then here you have this groundswell of people paying to come see you in concert. why are you still surprised? is that just how you were raised? >> no, i think it's more than that. course we've ben having serious sell-out tours in europe for years, australia, new zealand. but here in the united states, it is a rule that if you go on tour, you have to have an album and you are usually being played on the radio. you are the w radio, ones having the hits. when new country came along, me being one of the old artists, they played my classics on the hour and once in a while they play something. so i just assumed -- since i wasn't having hit records here in the states -- that i probably wouldn't be selling out a house. but since we were doing so well everywhere else, the promoter said, can't we try? i said, well, if you think we can sell. sure enough, it's just been amazing.
10:34 am
mid-december. we're going into canada next month which is great. first time i've done a long extensive tour there. so i'm loving it. the crowd's loving it. >> what country -- besides -- you are ours. you belong to america. but what country goes bonkers for dolly? >> well, in europe they do it but i think i love australia myself because that's like -- it's so far away. >> they're in the game with keith urban. >> i love but i love it all. we are very popular in europe. england, the uk . >> you are popular everywhere. >> but i've been around a long time. i did movies, also. a lot of the artist may not be that popular around the world but since i've actually been in some pretty big movies i think that has a lot to do with it, too. >> can we just ask you a couple -- almost out of time. i'm negotiating. please? what is your preshow ritual?
10:35 am
>> love that! me, too! me, too! on that note, no more questions. pray and pee! >> dolly parton, thank you so much. we will be seeing you again with hoda and kathie lee. we're not done. it is a dolly fest like you've never seen it. >> i'm here all day. billy makes his flash with the ladies. synchronized swimming? dolly, he even has a nickname. billy's nickname -- billy "the lilly." >> >> go pray and pee in this >> go pray and pee in this commercial break a olive garden's buy one take one is back, starting at $12.99. because there's nothing like a great meal with the family. except maybe another great meal with the family. buy one take one. choose one delicious entr?e, like our new pepperoni fettuccine alfredo or our chicken pot pie italiano. plus unlimited salad and breadsticks at our place, and another for yours, for free. starting at $12.99.
