this morning on "today's take," beyonce's big night. the epic 15-minute performance that brought down the house at vmas and dr. oz will join us and a summer dish you can make tonight. all that and more coming up now. >> announcer: from nbc ws, this is "today's take" with al roker, tamron hall, and billy bush live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. >> welcome to "today" for a monday morning, august 29th, 2016. i'm al alongside tamron. we are missing our pal, billy, who got caught up in the chaos
10:01 am
shooter turned out to be false. we can't have him here. this is the best way to have billy bush. where you put him in a tv monitor. >> it's virtual billy. >> that's right. >> just bring him over. >> it's like we can move you anywhere we want. do you feel dizzy from the movement? >> i smell a lot better this way too. it's been a long night, folks. >> what happened? tell us about it. >> so i'm at l.a.x. last night. i went to take the i get to the airport. i think this is one of those things where we've seen for a lot of people you see it on tv, you see it in the news, and you think this will never happen to me. i won't be caught up in this. all of a sudden i'm in terminal 4 american airlines. i was watching espn. had time for a fast beer at that bar right there. i sat down. all of a sudden i paid and i'm walking out and a stampede of
10:02 am
terror at me. a bomb is going to go off. something is happening. didn't immediately think gunshots. i'm asking everybody and this woman says someone has a gun. i turned around. i ran right back into that restaurant. i went straight back into their kitchen. there's a woman holding her baby. there's people in tears. shear panic. and then they come over the overhead and we find out that -- we found out way later shooter. they had a guy dressed as zoro that they apprehended but he was just a wacky guy. >> lester holt was there as well. he was landing. >> how long did this go on, billy? >> it went on for hours. they had to take everybody, every passenger had to be emptied out of the terminals and then they had to go through tsa screening again. at that point i said it doesn't matter. i'll never make it to the show on time.
10:03 am
little one who has her first day of school today. >> worked out anyway. >> i understand you got a tattoo. >> i did. this is controversial parenting here. i'll have to -- tamron you told me that -- >> i have tattoos. yeah. >> my daughter, josie, turned 18 on friday. why i came back to l.a. she said, look, i want to get a tattoo. what kind? she said right little cross. the beautiful part, you, me and mom, that's the little cross. very small. this is the most painful process in the world. >> that's one of the most -- that wrist area and your ankle are two of the roughest spots that you can get as well. you have some other ones but those are on the list. so the whole crew got it.
10:04 am
>> very nice. >> a family bond. i like it. >> now the other ones, we have a 15 year old and 11 year old and when they're 18, they can decide if they want to join us. >> what if your 15 year old says i want a body piercing. let's all get a body piercing. when she turns 18. >> when she turns -- i guess there's nothing i can do. i won't pay for it. >> you have to do it. >> what's the difference between i'm just saying. >> has to be within your own comfort zone. i'm comfortable as a body piercing as of yet. that may change. >> i can see you with a belly button thing. >> i cannot see that nor do we -- >> you won't actually lay eyes on it. tamron, u.s. open, you played tennis with andy murray. i'm jealous about that. did you beat him?
10:05 am
you know me. you were out at adventure land with me. >> it was not on a tennis court. >> andy murray is the sweetest guy. i was out friday. they work hard to bring tennis to girls. the numbers are still very low when it comes to girls being exposed to tennis programs. they invited me out. why are you laughing, billy? >> the outfit >> our wardrobe department -- it had a nike logo. so they covered it "today" show logo because we can't endorse. andy was so sweet. he brought out two kids. we played partners. so my partner, this really sweet boy. i turned to him and said are you excited that i'm your partner? he froze. no.
10:06 am
you and not andy murray? i tried my best. i can at least say that. >> that's all that matters. >> as two dads, i would think that certainly that's the advice you give the girls, right? try your best. >> do your best. that's why we're so excited about the success of the roker burger. shake shack and i did our best. we did our best. and in fact, all across the country the roker burger sold out. they ran out of roker >> i single handedly shut down the one in battery park. i shutdown one location. >> we're thrilled. it helped no kid hungry, which is great charity that helps fight childhood hunger. the folks at shake shack could not have been nicer and folks tweeting that they ran out were very understanding and some folks said they drove 25 miles to get their roker burger and they couldn't get it. >> any chance this can come back
10:07 am
it's like the mcrib. if the demand is high, can't we do that? >> that's a good idea. >> this is funny i'm looking back at you, without your man spread i feel like i'm half you. >> very much alive but in hiding. >> it's much more comfortable here. >> i got to tell you, i like waist up. >> i think we send top half of you back here and leave bottom half back in l.a. >> you're like that character from the you're all head. >> leave the man spread at home. the genius of the roker burger often times is a terrible tossup for me whether i want to have pulled barbecue or if i want to have a burger. the fact that you combined the two for an ingenious creation for a fabulous cause means it must come back. i searched in the airport for it. i'm one of the people that did not get a roker burger. it needs to come back.
10:08 am
mouth. you have the grill. you have the hamburger. barbecue. pulled pork. everything. cheese. >> the cheese was amazing. but bottom line is, billy, you're right we need to campaign. shake shack has been so wonderful and thrilled to team up with you. >> we'll find out how many we sold. >> we had one serious night last night, guys, at the vmas. i know we all watched. lots to talk about coming up from beyonce's ensemble. i wonder if tamron will agree about if britney spears delivered. >> what about dr. oz? we have dr. oz. >> dr. oz will be making a house call. >> he's going to take our waist see me. see me. don't stare at me. see me. see me. see me to know that psoriasis is just something that i have.

we are back with dr. oz who has his finger on the pulse of your health and ours as well. >> okay. you gave us three important tests. you already have one down here. >> blood pressure optimal is 120/80 or below. yours is high. only because i'm sitting next to you. white coat syndrome. in addition, busy work day. but you want it to be less than 120/80 if possible. do you have a pulse even? that's really low. >> my resting heart rate is about 65. >> people athletic have heart rates in the 60.
10:31 am
your blood pressure checked? >> i've not been to the doctor in two years. okay. let's not judge. i'm going to be honest. i have insurance of course. i'm one of those people i made a point of going to get my annual female exam. i've not been to the doctor in two years. i know, i know, i know. >> easy to get at home these devices. simple. here's why it's so important. number one cause of ageing is yo this is what your artery looks like. i want you to pretend for example that you have a little diabetes, which is like glass shards. scrape that. you start to actually dig gashes in there. you see that hole you made there. this is what happens. once you get cracks in there, the body gets upset and blood pressure is a hammer. take this hammer if you don't mind. hit it right about there.
10:32 am
i had this fixed up. there it is. there. it's really bad blood pressure. once you have a hole in your artery, you have to fix it. what's the best way to fix a hole? you use plaster. unfortunately the body's plaster is something called cholesterol. you take cholesterol and slather this on there and you get not appealing material and over time >> that's lining your blood vessel. >> we need to cut out salt. >> pressure, stress, number one problem we find in our surveys is probably the biggest driver. being short-term stressful environment like doing the show here or exercising raises your blood pressure but long-term stress you can't get away from it doesn't cause this plaque buildup. don't want that inside of you. >> waist line and why is waist measurement so important? >> the other way of dropping
10:33 am
hold on. there's a lot of stuff including squeezing of your kidneys which is responsible for regulating your blood pressure. your body will raise the blood pressure. men don't weigh themselves and women weigh too much. your waist size is the most accurate technique. everyone at home listen carefully. men over the age of 40, we take the belt and put it down there. >> still wearing a size >> the sweet spot is take a simple measuring tape around your hips. up to your belly button there. suck it in now. you're 27. 27 inches is the number you have to remember. it needs to be less than half your height. just to put numbers on it. for men it should be less than 40 inches. for women less than 35 inches. that's the rule of thumb. easy to follow.
10:34 am
for young women, they get caught up in weight. causing eating issues. use a measuring tape. >> next up -- >> please have a seat. >> the quiz is important here. i'm going to try to figure out whether you have something to worry about with your memory or not. you put five words up there before we went to break. you need to be able to remember those words for at least five to ten minutes. it's been about that long now. so you guys -- don't mind. i put a memory quiz here. there's your chalk. write down those five words. do not look at each other's cards. do it yourself. don't lock at what they're writing here. you should be able to remember those for that short period of time and recall them. if you can't get it right, i'll help you out by showing you a list of words which you should be able to recognize. we have face. >> velvet.
10:35 am
>> you got them right but in the wrong order. >> he has church twice. what does that mean? >> it means i'm a skipping record. >> if you can put up the list for everybody, the real issue is you should remember five. four is close. but if you can't pick them out of that list, that's behind al right now, that's a separate issue. don't panic. if you can't pick it up, observe yourself over do you remember phone numbers anymore? we have smartphones. don't remember numbers anymore. exercise your brain a little bit. if you don't think it's normal, see somebody. we can do things to help you. it works. >> thank you, dr. oz. >> two years is a long time. >> i'm going to correct it. you can see "dr. oz show" this fall september 12th. check your local listings. >> you know what else keeps you healthy? fresh tomatoes from the garden.
