>> let's get to cheryl fiandaca with more of the breaking details. >> the driver has been charged with 2 counts of motor vehicle homicide and 1 count of operating a motor vehicle to endanger. 55-year-old bradley castler of newton was indicted by a grand jury. on march 1st, as you might remember, he crashed his car into the sweet tomatoes restaurant in newton. police say he didn't break driving through the intersection of washington and chestnut streets. h hopped the curb and crashed straight into the restaurant. two armelli, and 32-year-old gregory warren were killed in the crash. several other people were seriously injured. following the crash, the driver's residence was revoked but now he gets charged. the driver's arraignment date has not yet been set. we of course will keep you updated on this breaking story. in the news room, i'm cheryl fiandaca, 7news. and we're following breaking news from berlin. officers say they've caught the dangerous bank robber who managed to escape arrest over the weekend.

pictures that we first showed you sound when officers asked families to stay inside their homes. police say the man robbed a bank, stole a motorcycle and then robbed a home full of weapons. we'll have more on this story for you on 7news at 5:00. also today, a battle over police body cameras back in court today. the boston police union challenging the plan to test them. 7's kelli o'hara was there and joins us live in boston with the very latest on this situation. >> yeah, it was supposed to begin about a week ago but the commissioner s been dragging their feet and says enough is enough. >> and i tried to get this going in june and then i tried to get it going in july, and now we're at september 1st. so obviously i was frustrated trying to get this out. >> reporter: boston police commissioner william evans in court on the stand temping on day 2 of the body camera hearing. the commissioner of the city, and some community groups, want officers to be hitting record while they're out on the streets. the union feels differently.

to the street, irreparable harm has been done. >> reporter: the patrolman's association, the police union for boston police wanting to delay the program saying officers could be in danger, cited one study. >> they put it on a camera but -- >> we don't know what's going to happen when the officer walks out on to the street with a body camera on. >> reporter: the commissioner saying the union has been drag this, feet for months. initially the the program was supposed to begin a week ago but since no one volunteered, the commissioner ass 6-month test run. but that program stopped by an injunction and evans says the union has even been intimidating officers from signing up and he wants it to stop. >> clearly there was postings around the stations not to volunteer. then you're gonna be ostracized if you wear them. and so, again, you know, i got a great department. it's lousy to see it, this in-fighting. >> the judge is expected to rule by noon on friday.

commissioner the city, well, officers will be suiting up first thing monday morning. in boston this afternoon, kelli o'hara, 7 news. and hurst police arrest a man after an alarming assault on a u-mass student. police say he posed as an uber driver and indecently assaulted the student. u-mass police say the students was off campus when the 18-year-old seen here approached her and offered to drive her to campus saturday morning. that's when the assault allegedly happened. she was able to escape. police say a lawrence firefighter was drunk when he h that. 7's john cocoa has much more from lawrence. >> reporter: just after midnight tuesday, lawrence police responded to a domestic incident at a house on south boylston street. a man trying to get into a safe stocked with guns. the man inside a 49-year-old lawrence firefighter. according to paperwork, police heard one obvious gunshot from inside the house. officers saw a large dog come out of the house, and as it

that the firefighter was sicking the dog on them, police eventually fired several shots injuring the dog. the firefighter then seen lying facedown bleeding in the doorway. police believe the firefighter shot himself in the right leg. he was taken to lawrence general hospital where he was treated and arraigned. we're told he did have a license to carry but that has since been revoked. meantime, his dog was treated by an emergency vet and expected to be okay. >> this firefighter is being held without bail. he'll have a dangerousness hearing on friday. a swansea man surrenders to police after a seven-hour standoff at a motel in seaconk. >> the 31-year-old is facing several charges including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, failure to register as a sex offender. according to investigators, the suspect had a knife and kept a woman in the motel room for several hoursed. that woman was not hurt. police in northampton are searching for a golf cart stolen

raise money for shriner's hospital in springfield. two people are hurt after a crash on 495 north. you can see here this vehicle flippedded over on the side of the highway. it happened near exit 23 in marlborough. two lanes were closed while the crash was cleared up. those people are expected to be okay. caught on camera, a high-speed police chase in arizona starts with the driver just taking off and ends with police pulling the trigger. viewers at home left stunned as they watched the entire scene unfolded on live christa delcamp reports. >> reporter: it's a police pursuit that lasted 45 minutes. >> car 24! 99-80! >> reporter: after a bank robbery in arizona is. >> they just did a maneuver on him here. police did the pit maneuver. >> reporter: officers, who were chasing the vehicle, block it in, jumping from unmarked cars. >> there we go. shots are fired. shots are fired at the vehicle. >> reporter: this all unfolding in the phoenix area. >> breaking news this noon of a bank robbery. >> reporter: it was broadcast on

officers. he's endangered the public for half an hour now as he's driven throughout the city recklessly. >> reporter: police say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. two other suspects were arrested close to where the chase started but no one else was hurt. >> shots were fired. >> reporter: it's still not known exactly how many shots police fired. >> we know that he intended to escape at all cost and put anybody in danger. >> right now, the fbi is investigating that shooting. in the newsroom, i'm christa delcamp, 7news. a car chase comes to a firely finish. a man driving a range recovery led police on a 10 minute high-speed chase ending with the suv, as you can see here, in flames. after he crashed into a light pole. this happened just before 1:00 this afternoon. the man was able to escape and officers carried him to a patrol car and arrested him. also in l.a., at least 21 people recovering after a metrolink train hit a tractor/trailer yesterday. the train ran right into the back that have vehicle.

train. everyone is expected to be okay. at least three people were killed in a helicopter crash south of orlando. the chopper went down in palm bay. the helicopter's older military style aircraft, it was operating out of a nearby airport. officials say it was not carrying military personnel. and we are following more news here today. a dangerous decision leads to terrifying moments for a south carolina mom. she left her sleeping 6-year-old son in the car at a gas station to quickly run inside and buy something. in less than 90 seconds, someone stole her car with her son still he the car was spotted about an hour later on the side of the road with the boy still inside. >> it was a nightmare. i was in shock. you know, all i could keep thinking about was, i mean, just praying, please let my baby be okay. >> he is okay. the boy left through the entire ordeal and police are still looking for the thief. a 12-year-old boy in south florida came face to face with an uninvited guest while he was home alone. a burglar broke through a window to rob that house and the man

a group of strangener florida. police officers were able to catch an alligator that were actually chasing the children. the gator more than 4 feet long. >> it took sometime but the animal has been relocated to a safer location. >> yeah, we were scared. >> reporter: brenda mike describes the horrifying sight she witnessed in her neighborhood park. >> we seen the gator coming out at two kids. i took a barbecue sauce cup and threw it at him.

today the middle sex county district attorney's office announced that castler has been indicted on 1 count of operating a motor vehicle to endanger and 2 counts of motor vehicle homicide. 32-year-old gregory mirin and 57-year-old elaine armelli were killed inside the restaurant, sitting there having dinner. one was actually picking up their food when the car came crashing through. the 55-year-old driver immediately had his license proceed provoked and the d.a.'s office has been looking into this for the last six months. today they came down with the indictment and are saying he will be arraigned in court at a later date. that's the latest live from newton, tim caputo, 7news. some berlin officers say they caught a bank robber who they were searching for last weekend. these are the surveillance pictures we first showed you on sunday when officers asked families to stay inside their homes. police say the man robbed a bank, stole a motorcycle and robbed a hope full of weapons. >> also breaking, a road closure in hingham while crews fight
