>> kris: breaking news this noon. sky 7 hd over the scene of an officer-involved shooting in lynn. this happened at an apartment building right on lynn shore drive. i'm kris anderson. >> sarah: i'm sarah french. at this point, we know one man is dead. let's send it oath to kellie o'hara with the very latest. >> reporter: yeah. one man is dead in this officer-involved shooting. it was a domestic disturbance, we are told by witnesses. it hand on the fifth floor of this condo complex. we are told 911 was called just before 10:00 this morning. there was a fight between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. you can see sky 7 hd over the scene right there. on lynn shore drive.

live in the building that the woman called 911 asking for help and said that she was fighting with her boyfriend and she did say that he was armed. we are told officers arrived. we are told that boyfriend was not cooperating at all with the police. and possibly some sort of shoot-out began. that is when that man was shot. again, we are told that woman has been taken into custody. along with some witnesses. police are out here right now along the d.a.'s office combing the scene. neighbors tell us, though, this is a very gruesome crime scene. police are trying to put together the pieces of exactly what happened. back out here live on lynn shore drive in lynn. a police-involved shooting did kill one man after a domestic disturbance. investigators out here. we will bring you the very latest as it develops. >> kris: some more breaking news now this noon. the supreme court rejecting whitey bulger's appeal of his

bulger's appeal, leaving in place that conviction for his role in 11 murders and many other crimes. the 87-year-old bulger was a fugitive for 17 years until he was arrested in 2011. a jury convicted him in 2013. >> sarah: all right. this is a huge day for pats fans. tb 12's suspension is finally over. quarterback tom brady will be rejoining the team following his four-game suspension. and he was already back in action yesterday, throwing some pa i forward now after four weeks without brady, including yesterday's tough loss to the bills. >> kris: yeah. it couldn't come at a better time. yesterday's heartbreaker. no brady sights yet at gillette stadium today. coach belichick had this to say during the monday morning conference call. >> it is great to have tom and rob back. i mean, i can't tell you... i

hitting parts of the caribbean. with wind speeds of 140 miles per hour. moving north at six miles per hour. the storm now 1800 miles from boston. it is headed to jamaica. streets are flooded with water as rain started to come down on sunday. people try to push their cars through the streets. as the water continued to rise. up to 20 inches of rain could quickly fall. the storm is still strengthening. >> kris: right now it is headed toward haiti. lambert for the latest. six miles per hour. moving pretty slowly. >> chris: it is crawling along. that becomes an issue, too for the haiti, for the dominican, for cuba. a tremendous amount of rain. it exacerbates the situation in terms of this tropical moisture getting slammed into the mountainous terrain. you have to remember, you have peaks here, 8,000, 10,000 feet in some instances on hispaniola. you will likely see mud-slides and flash flooding.

edges of haiti. it is going to be west of port-au-prince. a category four hurricane. this is where the brunt of the strongest winds will be. you have to remember, hurricane-force winds extending out. tropical storm-force winds extending across much of haiti. even across the western portion of the dominican. a lot of rain will be an issue as well. this is as of tuesday evening. thereafter, one thing that we have seen, some of the forecast models today has it edging slightly farther to the west. the last update, you see the coastal carolinas, coastal georgia. the east coast of florida, also included in the forecast cone. this may get pinned down just in the southeastern united states for a few days. at least continue slow motion to the northwest. and eventually, northeast. thereafter, the models kind of

want to take this quickly off to the north. that would be a close pass to the new england coastline. others say you know what? this is going to hang down here a off f the coastline for a little longer. if that is the case, there may be a better chance later on of sliding to the east. it is all about the timing of these features coming together. including the spieled of matthew itself. how fast it comes up the coastline. does it interact with the front or is the front getting through here? if matthew is slower, the keep it farther south and east. plenty to watch over the weekend. especially saturday night into sunday. if there is a faster track that, would likely be the impact period. we will talk more ahead. >> sarah: parts of haiti will see the punishing winds and rain. people are preparing for the storm. an orphanage is getting ready to deal with the possible devastation matthew could bring. >> kris: the orphanage was

it was named after a massachusetts native who died in the earthquake. now a worker in haiti who works there is telling us what they are doing to prepare for matthew. a powerful storm tearing through the caribbean with several island nations in its path. including haiti which is already feeling the effects of matthew, a powerful category four hurricane. >> there is a light wind right now. it is very dark. very gray. which is you know, not typical for haiti. it is usually sunny and warm. it is much cooler than normal. >> kris: the orphanage was founded in honor of the rutland, massachusetts native killed in the earthquake that devastated that country six years ago. now, the island is getting ready for another potentially devastating event. >> we have prepared for the worst. hoping for the best. you know, from all reports, we are expecting, you know, anywhere from 25-40 inches of rain. we are expecting winds minimum

>> reporter: another concern: potential mulled-slides. especially in the mountains where the orphanage is located. the team is ready... preparing to get ready for matthew. >> we are boarding up all of the windows in those areas. we have stocked up on diesel for the generators. >> kris: there are 66 children at the orphanage. including the staff members, there are more than one hundred people taking shelter they have enough food, water, and supplies to last about a week. and they feel safe because the building was built to withstand a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. his concern is with others living nearby. >> most people that i have spoken to, most locals aren't even aware that there is a hurricane coming. they are still living in temporary structures. you know, people are still in tents and tarps. you know, tin shack that is are sort of pieced together. >> kris: so scary to think

haiti will start feeling the major effects of mapt you later tonight. it could last anywhere from 24-36 hours. be sure to keep it here on 7 news for the very latest on hurricane matthew. we will have complete coverage throughout the day, on air, and on-line. also on 7 now: a man called to court after police say he hit a state troop we are his motorcycle. this happened right outside gillette stadium. right after the patriots game yesterday. the trooper rushed to the hospital with some serious injuries. jennifer eagan is live in wrentham with more he latest on this case. jen? >> reporter: chris, the state police captain who the suspect allegedly hit is still in the hospital at this hour. state police say he suffered blunt-force injuries, including serious cuts and bruises to his head. jose perez rodriguez arrived at wrentham district court in a hospital gown and jeans. he should be arraigned momentarily. state police say troopers tried to stop rodriguez because they say he was driving erratically on his

>> kris: all right. let's take a look outside. you know it's good when you can finally see the skyline. it's been so gray and gloomy. >> sarah: it was hard to plan stuff this weekend, chris. it was so rainy out. >> chris: you were trying to get out with the kids to go apple-picking. yeah, it was tough. anly on saturday. meantime, we look forward to some sunshine. for at least several days. we want to update you on matthew. category four hurricane here. this is expected to continue its motion off to the north. basically, coming really close to the western edge of haiti and eastern cuba here. then into the bahamas. could be just off the florida and carolina coastline late in the week. where does it go from there? some questions around that in the longer range. whether it tries to scoot up the east coast fairly quickly or if it gets pinned to the south of us, it may eventually get the kickoff to the east. however that, front we are watching that may push it offshore, you know, if it is a little slower, it allows it to

out better for us. regardless, we could get some rain that gets pulled up that front. all right. 67 in boston right now. 69 in norwood. how nice is that after a weekend stuck into the 50's? finally seeing some mild air as well. not a lot of rain to talk about at the moment. however, this afternoon there is enough instability that a few scattered showers, maybe isolated thunderstorms inland, most of it west and north and west of 495 could get going. you could see the concentration of that was across the western half of ne tonight into tomorrow morning, likely, getting a renewed batch of some moisture working in offer the ocean. that will provide some spotty light showers and drizzle late overnight tonight, tomorrow morning. watch this for the afternoon. we start to break back out into some sunshine. that sunshine will hold on strong for several days after that as high pressure dominates. you can see the forecast model here. basically showing you west of 495, north and west of 495, the best chance for showers. more on the forecast. over to danielle.

the chance for any rain will diminish over the next few days. you were talking about the best chance to see any showers this afternoon. maybe also seeing a lingering scattered light shower into tomorrow morning as well. we are drying out, heading into wednesday and thursday. we did start off the month, though, on saturday and sunday. as sarah was mentioning. with some rain. so far this month, we are picked up almost three quarters of an inch of rain. usually, by this time in the month, we don't even have half an inch. we are doing well on average for the month of october. we do see nearly of rain. temperatures this month have been below average as well. our average temperature so far, just above 55 degrees. three degrees below where we should be. to start the month, average highs in the upper 6's. by the end of the month, those average high temperatures will drop down into the upper 50's. going to be nice and fall-like the next couple of days.

parking garage. that is the focus of the investigation right now. one man is dead after a police-involved shooting. at this condo complex on lynn shore drive. we are told that 911 was called this morning just before 10:00. with reports of a shooting. we are told by one woman who lives here that gunfire exploded on the fifth floor of the bidding. disturbing a very peaceful morning here alongside the water. we are told by several witnesses who live inside the building that a man had a gun and was not cooperating with police when this police cars have been lining this building for several hours as state police along with the lynn police investigate the shooting and interview witnesses. one woman, a witness, taken into custody and we are told by officers on the scene that she was not under arrest. back out here live on lynn shore drive in lynn. you can see policemen wrapping crime scene tape around this building. they investigate the deadly encounter with police. it has left one man dead.

story and bring you the very latest as it happens. >> kris: cheryl fiandaca is learning more about the details involving this shooting here. >> sarah: she joins us live with more on the breaking news. >> reporter: kris and sar remarks police were at the home on lynn shore drive in lynn excuing a search warrant in connection to an armed robbery. now, the armed robbery happened on monday, september 26 in the afternoon. police say the port hole pub was robbed. sources say the well-known restaurant t lynn was robbed in broad daylight at 1:00 in the afternoon. 7 news has learned that at least two suspects came into the restaurant tied up the owner, and the employees. now, this morning lynn police detectives were executing a search warrant at00 lynn shore drive when an officer shot the man who was believed to be the suspect at that location. the massachusetts state police detectives from the essex county district attorney's office are investigating the

hurricane now hitting parts of the caribbean with wind speeds of 140 miles per hour. moving north at six miles per hour. the storm now 1800 miles from boston. in jail,... in jamaica, streets are flooded. rain started to come down on sunday. people tried to push their cars through the streets as the water continued to rise. up to 20 inches of rain could quickly fall. and that storm still strengthening. haiti. are the rainfall totals so high because of how slow it is moving? >> that, too. and the mountainous terrain. we are expecting 15-25 inches in the mountainous terrain there. locally, up to 40. just because of the sheer mass of tropical moisture that has to work on through. wind speeds right now, as sarah mentioned, 140 miles an hour. you can see on the satellite presentation, how all of these

from the center of circulation. there is plenty of rain well away from the center here. now, you get close to the center of circulation, that eye of the hurricane on the eye wall, especially eastern eye wall, that is where you get your strongest wind. if you are going to take the brunt of those winds, you put that right over the western edges of haiti here. and then right over the eastern edge of cuba. as we go down the line here. this is mostly tonight and tomorrow morning across haiti. tomorrow afternoon, across portions of cuba into tomorrow night. then you get f line here, and what does it do? how close to the united states does this come? it is going to carve a path through the bahamas and may come closer here. if there is any indication of a model change since yesterday, some models today have been edging this farther off to the west. the national hurricane center has included the east coast of florida, georgia, and the carolina coastline in that forecast. it will likely stay an intense hurricane as it works its way

now, the models diverge once we get beyond thursday, friday, of this week here. some of them saying yup, it's fast enough. it is going to track up the coast. others say, well, it slows down here for a little while. then it slides off to the southeast. it is too early to say. the full impact or lack thereof across new england here next weekend. the timing of it, if we do get impacted by it, with at least some rainfall, would likely be saturday night or sunday. the key to the track is how strong the ridge of high pressure and the interaction with the cold front. there is lots to keep in mind here as we go through the forecast period into the weekend. guys? >> kris: the 25-year-old motorcyclist who police say hit a state trooper after yesterday's patriots game was called to court today. jose perez rodriguez of everett arrived in the courthouse in wrentham in a hospital gown where he was set to face charges. police say that perez-rodriguez was driving away from troopers who tried

he then allegedly hit this trooper in the parking lots. the trooper is still in the hospital today but is expected to be okay. >> sarah: now the deadly commuter crash in new jersey. federal investigators questioning the engineer about that crash. federal investigators say the engineer has no memory of thursday's crash. which killed one person and injured more than a hundred others. the engineer says he was well-rested and his cell phone was turned off. he says he even tested the brakes before leaving the station, remembers waking up on the floor of the train. authorities also announced sunday that one of the event recorders recovered from the train wasn't functional. officials are hoping the second o'feint recorder in the front car was working. they haven't been able to find it yet because the front car is still covered in debris. >> kris: kim kardashian has left paris after she was reportedly robbed at gunpoint. this happened sunday night at her hotel in paris. her spokesperson says two armed men dressed as police officers confronted her inside

fitchburg. 70 in plymouth. add a couple more here. we will hold close in the upper 6's to lower 70's. soaking rain over the weekend for some of us. orleans picked up over three inches of rain. same case in nantucket. holliston, an inch and a half. beneficial inch. or at least close it to in boston. you get out to worcester. and locations north and west. you know, not so much in terms of the appreciable rain. enough low-level moisture to keep it wet. radar mostly quiet right now. in fact, you have seen the sunshine out there. you have had quite a few brea the atmosphere. you are popping some scattered showers across vermont and out through the berkshires. the brunt of the activity through the day will be west of 495. so any of these mid to late afternoon showers that form tend to favor locations away from the coastline. we will likely see a few of them out there. then across southwestern new hampshire, western worcester county, western new england, wouldn't be surprised to see a rumble of thunder. high pressure nosing its way in. this is going to set up shop

drizzle that we have tomorrow morning, yields to partly sunny skies in the afternoon. the high builds over us, some good-looking days ahead of us. wednesday, thursday, and into friday. now, we get into the weekend. we have so watch what matthew does. matthew right now, powerful category four. this is moving off to the north and likely going between haiti and cuba here. over the next 24-48 hours. then into the bahamas and then eventually off to the southeastern united states coastline. including in the track forecasted con more particularly, may be prone to this. the carolina coastline. where it goes from there, we will have to keep an eye on. that the highest rain chance today will be inland. for more on the forecast, over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. as we head into the rest of the week, things dry out. we did start off the month, as you guys were talking about, with some rain over the weekend. and so far this month, we have actually picked up almost three-quarters of an inch of rain. on average, we do have less than half an inch by this time in the month.

of october, we pick up almost four ijs of rain. and last month, we didn't do that. last year, in october, we were over two inches below average in the rainfall department. as far as temperatures, we actually are starting the month off below average as well. and our average high temperature to start the month, near 70 in the upper 6's. by the end of the month, those average high temperatures dropping down into the upper 50's. and those overnight lows going to be averaging down in the low 40's by the fall-like out there. as we head into the middle of the week, going to feel nice. tomorrow, low 60's. then wednesday and thursday, bumping the temperatures back up to upper 60's and low 70's. for the rest of the forecast, back to you. >> chris: all right. some nice fall weather at times over the next several days. danielle, 67-71. even a few towns, 72-73 inland this afternoon. a couple of pop-up 3s showers developing inland as well.
