winds right now, this is is the 5:00 update, no change from the mid afternoon update, 120 miles per hour, moving northwest at 12 miles per hour. category 3 storm, and we'll maintain that intensity overnight tonight through tomorrow morning moving through the bahamas, right over nassau most likely during the day tomorrow, and approach florida late tomorrow night, around midnight tomorrow night through friday morning. and it does intensify. and this is not a good scenario for the east coast of florida. basically miami up through so corridor, all the cities and towns gonna be under the gun for several hours on friday with incredible wind. winds around 130, 125 miles per hour, just offshore, as well as very heavy rain. and then it does begin to curve northeast, head toward the south carolina coastline and then loops back south. you see this looping back south, so it never gets north of north carolina. new england is out of the threat and likely will stay out of the threat for the duration of the storm. we'll talk more about your forecast in a few minutes. right now we're talking about the devastation in southern haiti.

communication systems are down. the destruction has many in the southeastern states in our country fearing what could be coming their way. brandon gunnoe joins us now in our newsroom. >> a church pastor in haiti called hurricane matthew's damage a total disasters. now those living in bahamas and the u.s. are either trying to brace for impact or get out as quickly as they can it? >> reporter: the devastation was at its worst in southern haiti wherein hour pummeled the nation. roads have been cut off from the rest of the country. 10 people total have died in thescreen, the youngest may have been a teenaged boy who was swept away in a landslide while cleaning a drain behind his home. hurricane matthew now taking aim at the bahamas and the u.s. coastline from florida to north carolina. >> with the storm going up our coast, a small deviation with this track could mean a catastrophic change along florida's east coast. we have to prepare for a direct hit. >> reporter: in florida the governor has ordered people to

keli o'hara is live at the school with the latest on the breaking story. >> yeah, they're going to scrub down the school all day tomorrow after this outbreak, and news of it obviously has spread. what we have found out is three student athletes along with another student have been infected by staph infection. all parents of the high-schoolers here have been notified. there was no school scheduled for tomorrow. the superintendent says his top priority now is to make sure the high school i day tomorrow. >> we have to treat it responsibly, quickly, and aggressively to make sure that the bacteria does not spread. s. >> reporter: the superintendent hopes that there will be no more illnesses at all. that's why they're going to scrub down the school all day tomorrow after four students here were infected with the viruses. kelli o'hara, 7news. also on 7, a deadly collision in cambridge. a man riding his bike was hit after he was hit by a

us it is a problem intersection. 7's victoria warren with the story. >> reporter: a bike wedged up a tractor/trailer. police say the cyclist didn't make it, shutting down the very busy intersection for hours as they investigate. >> some guy just went through the light over here, too. mostly this slight pretty quick, so people try to bolt through it. >> reporter: people who live nearby say this intersection is incredibly tough, whether you're on foot, in a car or on a bike. they don't follow rules, swam drivers, too. i mean, you know, it's pretty swings over here. ole oh it's pretty dangerous over here. >> reporter: this man bikes the area a lot and says the added bike lanes aren't doing enough to keep bicyclists safe, he says there are so many distractions on the road. seeing scenes like this sadly should remind everyone to just slow down. >> just be patient.

fantastic fall weather the next few days with a fair amount of sunshine into the holiday weekend. the only risk of some rain will be a few showers saturday evening, tied to a cool front. not tied to a hurricane, matthew, no threat to new england. high pressure up north of us, and in northern new england, actually scraping some moisture

clouds last night and this morning. that never broke apart. the southshore, the south coast and the cape holding on to the clouds, city of boston and west, lots of sunshine. and the farther you are from the ocean are the warmer the air. fitchburg at 66. orange at 67. the city at 57, and where you have those pesky clouds out on to the cape, the numbers in the upper 50s. so there is the area of high pressure. it's a big area of high pressure moving slow. so we'll hold on to the dry air overnight tonight, even down along the southshore and the cape. the clouds begin to thin out overnight tonight. could be patchy fog. norwood in the upper 30s, city of boston theory 50 and for the rest of us in the mid 40s during the morning commute tomorrow. through the day tomorrow, mostly sunny skies. a pleasant day, coolest conditions found at the coastline with the southeasterly breeze. temps between 66 and 72 .

afternoon, mix of clouds and sunshine to mostly sunny skies. edgar town is 69. chatham at 66. friday, a lot of sunshine. a pleasant day. a little warmer on friday with temps on friday in the low 70s. topsfield fair rolls on the next few days, will feature lots of sunshine, cotton candy and temps running into the low to mid-70s. now, on the holiday weekend high pressure is with us to start on saturday with clouds showing up saturday evening and saturday night out ahead of a cool front. this will sweep with a few showers. you notice this band of rain that's coming out of pennsylvania and up through new york state along the front, some of that moisture is being pulled out of matthew from -- by the cool front itself. so this is where we think matthew will be during the day on saturday. again, south of wilmington, north carolina. and moves east, but so does the cool front, and so as the front is moving east, it prevents matthew from heading north, and also that moisture connection is

nassau, freeport, again, these numbers here indicating the category strength based on the salver simpson scale. -- saffir-simpson scale. you'll notice the number increases to a number 4 as it approaches the east coast of florida. the red line, this is is the latest forecast track from the hurricane center. they've actually inched it a little bit closer to the east coast of flo, titusville sometime late tomorrow night, early friday morning. it's a category iv storm, 130 mile-an-hour winds, and perhaps even as far inland as orlando. they may see winds gusting 65 to 70 miles per hour. but the brunt of it will be focused right at the coastline, pretty much along the 95 corridor from miami up through jacksonville. then from there, it does move northeast along the georgia and south carolina coastline, weakening some but still a category ii hurricane and then it loops back to the south, and
