freeport in the bahamas for the last 30 to 45 minutes. when we talk about a category 4 form and winds at 140 miles per hour you find it right there in the eye wall. it's conceivable up we just had 140 mile-per-hour winds rip across the city of freeport within the last 30 to 45 minute. devastating to say the least. from there it does continue to move northwest toward the east coast of florida later on tonight. these are one of our computer models here and a lot of warm colors indicating the heavy bans of rain and that's also where yu nd heavy bands of rain. here is the eye wall approaching fort pierce around midnight tonight and from there it looks like it's going to parallel the florida coastline overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. still maintaining hurricane status. it likely weakens from a categoy 4 down to a category 2 storm. but still talking about several hours of destructive wind on the east coast of florida. west palm beach winds will intensify overnight tonight.

timeline here, the wind speeds close to 100 miles per hour in west palm beach. melbourne sustained 50 miles per hour and then up ramps up overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. winds sustained likely around 100 miles per hour. so the 95 corridor is a real tough go late tonight into tomorrow. rainfall totals to exceed 6 inches of rain in many locations. melbourne north up through portions of georgia and south carolina. more of your holi w j.r., thank you. >> gas stations and store shelvs are bare. many people in florida are warnd to be inside by 5:00 if they haven't evacuated. the. >> kim at this hour officials in florida are urging people to sty off the roads as conditions quickly deteriorate.

simmons is dealing with the outr bands of the storm. last time we talked to you, what's it like now. >> the rain is gone, ryan, we're giving you a little bit of everything with this weather up hurricane matthew has been bringing to south florida, and a lot of people want to come out and see it for themselves. they're getting in the water to surf. they're coming out with their cameras. their smartphones just to take everything in, because this has been a challenging 48 hours for folks here in south florida. ol major school districts here for the -- for two days for this storm. businesses boarded up. people spent the day in long lines at grocery stores getting their hurricane supplies together. but as you can see it looks as f we dodged the bullet. the brunt of the storm is going to be to our north, so here everyone is able to sort of take a little bit of a breather. this was the closest call up we've had, the most serious stom up we've had this hurricane season so people didn't want to

the dorchester girl was killed n june of 2015 while riding a bike with her 12 years cousin in mattapan. police say a speeding car came p on the sidewalk and hit them and that the driver kept going and was arrested the next day. today up driver, 46-year-old james horton of dorchester pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges. in tearful impact statements family members say she was a happy littleir dreams. the prosecutor read a letter frm her cousin who survived the crash. >> the last thing i remember was crossing the street with my little cousin. when i woke up in the hospital not knowing why. i cry on birthdays and holidays because she doesn't get to enjoy any of these things anymore. >> the boy's mother says her son will never be the same.
