street so there has been heavy traffic in that area. >> anchor: also here at 5:30, a convicted child rapist covering his face in court today. you can see him right there recently released from prison but today he is facing new charges. >> anchor: his initial release caused concern for some residents on the south shore and then police say he violated his probation. byron barnett live in quincy with the latest. >> anchor: well, after serving a very long sentence for child rape richard gardner was only out of prison for a couple of weeks before he was re again. authorities say he violated probation by showing up here at this public library in quincy.. >> anchor: richard gardner hiding his face in court. he says he is being unfairly targeted by a hostile public. he was basically routed out of his house. he was invited back to his home, there was no reason that he couldn't go back to his home. >> reporter: the recent release leased child rapist was rearrested on friday. authorities say he violated his probation by going to the crane

using one of the library computers. his probation prohibits him from going places where there are children. it would be weather in fact there is a children's entrance and he didn't go in that entrance. it's alleged he went into a common area, probably within view of the main library facility, main circulation desk and that's what is alleged. >> anchor: in court gardner waived extradition to rhode island where he served part of his nearly 30 years in prison for kidnapping and raping in the 1980's. but gardner's recent release and return to his parents home in weymouth caused the neighborhood uproar. it's not confirmed or doe need if he is still a sexually dangerous person so i slept a little better and was able to walk around the neighborhood again. >> anchor: gardner's attorney said he was forced from his parents home to various homeless shelters. he was at a boston shelter when he was arresteds a new jerseytive from justice. the question we have to ask

they serve their sentence. he served and rehe is release and now can he go. >> reporter: gardner's attorney said he will be picked up and transported to authorities later this week in rhode island. that's the story live from quincy, i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> anchor: and more news today, a four story brownstone goes up in flames on newbury street. quite the scene there and investigators are trying to get the details on exactly what went wrong. >> anchor: the damage is estimated at almost a million dollars. kris anderson has the latest from boston. a scary scene on one of boston's best known streets. flames tearing through this newbury street brownstone sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. as i started walking up newbury street you can see the smoke canning out of the building so the close are i get was only about a half block away. i said this is a real fire. >> reporter: steve saw it all unfolding as he and dozens of onlookers stopped their dining and shopping to watch the boston fire department battle the blaze and overcome the thick smoke.

almost as scary as seeing flames because it seems like something is building in there and you don't know if there will be a back flash or blow out spot fire started on the first floor of this four story building which houses a restaurant, art gallery and apartment units. nobody was injured but boston fire officials say the fire caused nearly $1 million in damages. it looked like they got in there quickly. they put the ladder up, broke into that first floor and then you can see the flames erupt suddenly so we weren't sure but they seem to have the si go of the fire department. >> anchor: witnesses say one of the toughest things for fire crews was actually getting down newbury street because of the parking and traffic but once they did, they were able to put that fire out. that is the latest here on newbury street. kris anderson, 7 news. >> anchor: and police are investigating a deadly shooting in lawrence. it happened on haverhill street last night. one in a was killed. police have not made any arrests in connection with that murder. >> anchor: police are investigating a deadly drive in

crash involving two motorcycles and a car sunday morning. it happened on highland road. three other people were seriously hurt. people who live nearby said the way the road is constructed has led to similar crashes. i heard the sound of a crash and i knew something had happened bus we get a lot of crashes on this corner. sorry for the families and everybody involved. i feel bad for them. >> reporter: list have not said what led up to that crash. >> anchor: three people are recovering this morning afte police say two cars collided head on yesterday afternoon on franklin street. one of the victims trapped inside. all three rushed to the hospital. no word yet on their conditions. >> anchor: police are still investigating a deadly amtrak train accident in east greenwich rhode island. this train was heading from boston to washington, d.c. on sunday when it hit a person crossing the tracks. that person died. witnesses say there appeared to be two teen-age girls on the tracks. service was delayed for several

investigated. i heard the train horn and i woke up and i said to myself, i said i think something happened on the track. >> anchor: no one was hurt in the accident and police have not identified the person killed in the crash. >> anchor: caught on camera, terrifying scene in san diego saturday when a truck flies off a bridge and right into a crowd below. the accident killed four people and hurt several others. now police say the truck's driver has been arrested on suspicion. of driving under the influence. four peel are killed, another nine hurt when this pickup truck flies off the on ramp to a san diego california bridge. from 60 feet in the air, the truck comes crashing dunn in a park where hundreds of people from los angeles are gathered for motorcycle ride. the truck ends up on its side on top of numerous victims, four of whom are killed probably instantly and the suspected cause of the tragedy. the driver of the pickup truck has been placed under arrest for driving under the

death. he was transported to usds hospital. >> anchor: highway patrol identifies the driver of the truck as a 25-year-old navy sailor based out of sand o.because the crowd is so massive there are already san diego police officers on the scene who find themselves entrenched in chaos when the truck flies off the bridge. when the truck came off the overpass, units, officers from san diego pd were moments away, came into the crowd solicited the help of those that were impacted by the horrific event and were able to make way for the fire to get in and evacuate the injured. officers on scene attempted to provide life saving aid to the most critically injured. unfortunately it did not produce any life saving efforts or results. it's horrible and horrific. obviously people were down below. bodies were, there are innocent people just down here having a

miss cash's third grade students are pretty well-behaved. you really wouldn't notice anything out of the ordinary in this classroom. not at first glance. no, not a science fiction movie. this is 8-year-old abigail newbury. abbie is not physically at school but still manages to attend class every day. seeing her back in a consist classroom setting has been pretty amazing. abbie suffers from a severe allergic reactions and when she started spending more time with the school nurse than in the classroom per and the school district started looking for options and they say they fund a good one. her having the robot has built her confidence and allowed her to feel a little bit more accepted and normal. the 8-year-old is using the vigo bolt parting her virtually in the classroom with her peers. i feel like i'm participating in my class. >> anchor: she asks questions, works on group projects and can even move the robot around the

accused of sending nude pictures and videos to a 16-year-old high school student. this is the teacher, 63-year-old robert wily. he is charged. police say willie first began sending the inappropriate material last school year when that 16-year-old was in his english class at merrimack high school. it continued this year according to police when the girl was in his philosophy class. he also requested the girl send images of the investigation began when the girl's mother discovered the pictures and videos. we were notified by the parent of the victim who found some inappropriate images, pictures, videos, e-mails, text messages from mr. wiley the defendant. they were shocking to the parents so they came forward right away to let us know and that's when our investigation began. >> anchor: merrimack schools release this statement. we want to assure the community

with the police who are handling this investigation. we have communicated with families and will be working with our staff to provide counseling services to students who need it. whily has been a teacher for 37 years. he has turned in his less willing nation and is out on $20,000 bond tonight. live in merrimack, new hampshire. i'm alex deprado, 7 news. >> anchor: there is more breaking news this evening. boston police tweeting out these pictures of a wanted in connection to a shooting in roxbury over the weekend. a toddler was injured in that shooting. police say that man was spotted leaving the scene right after shots were fired. he was riding a black and white scooter wearing a black helmet, a red sweatshirt and gray sweat pants. detectives say shots were fired around 4:00 on saturday afternoon on winslow street. they say a two-year-old boy was injured this that shooting. he is expected to be okay.
