reviewed surveillance video in the area. they have talked to witnesses also. they say they are actively pursuing one person. kimberly bookman, 7 news. >> sarah: one person is in critical condition after a late-night shooting in roxbury. the victim was shot in the head. no word yet if any arrests have been made. fire officials are investigating a car fire in brookline. investigators say the car caught fire while on route 9 west last night. the accident caused traffic delays. ever now, though. a telephone pole comes tumbling down this morning after a truck struck it in chelsea. as you can see here, the pole pulled down several wires. the cause of the accident is still under investigation. no injuries were reported. 7 news now turning to your forecast. a live look outside. sun shining over the city. this is a live look in braintree. bri, i love seeing those leaves change colors out there. >> bri: it's been spectacular. for us this fall.

for the end of the week and into the weekend, a lot of those leaves will probably be knocked loose. we have mostly sunny skies at this point. you can see the cloud cover. not far off from us. nor is the rain. that is working in behind it. though i think today will be dry until we head into the dark hours of tonight. current temperatures, 61 in boston. we have mid to upper 60's. as you get away from the coastline. a touch breezy out there. not only the cooler temperatures, but you will feel a chill to the air. 10-15 miles per hour coming in off the cool ocean water. that will keep the temperatures from really getting a whole lot warmer from where we are at this point. especially along the coastline. it is a fall feel that has fallen back upon us. with clouds moving in for us. as we get into this afternoon. and we do have some wet weather on the way for us. not just for tomorrow but maybe even to kick off the beginning of the weekend. we will run through the timeline to come up in a few minutes. >> sarah: thanks, bri.

home. richard cintolo released from the hospital yesterday in the wake of last week's shooting. the boston police department is highlighting the importance of blood donations. and today, a blood drive is being hosted to give back. 7's victoria warren live from dorchester now with more. >> reporter: yeah, sarah. no doubt those blood transfusions saved those officers' lives. this blood drive is a way for the community to come together, donate blood, and pay it forward. police officers richard cintolo and matt morris are on their minds. >> i saw firsthand, what the blood does. and saved two of my brothers' lives. report t boston police patrolman's association quickly organized this red cross blood drive in the wake of the east boston shooting. hundreds of people came out and not just fellow officers. >> to help people generally. but in this case, to help the officers. you know, put their lives on

last week. figueroa was appointed constable back in april. the mayor is concerned that councilors were not informed of figueroa's criminal history outside of massachusetts before approving his application. >> as this case unfolds, clearly, there seems to be some issues there. the background check from my understanding can only be a massachusetts background check. clearly, if we had a nationwide background check here, it would have caught... we would have seen some things. >> sarah: constables oversee papers are delivered, and in some cases, take people into custody. three people facing a judge today in connection with an armed break-in in new hampshire. john cuoco joins us live with the very latest from the courthouse in brentwood. >> reporter: well, sarah, we learned in court this appears to be a plot to buy drugs and then rob the dealer. all three suspects in this case appeared in court by video this morning. they are accused of attacking a man in epping, new hampshire

sean christopher o'connell of rockland is going on. o'connell served in operation iraqi freedom and operation enduring freedom, afghanistan. he received the combat action badge. friends and family encourage others to create a path of support, holding american flags as the motorcade makes its way to weymouth. it is in lynnfield now, i believe. it is expected to pass through boston on i-93 south around 12:30 and on route into weymouth a little later today. turning now against isis: the iraqi prime minister says the battle to retake the northern city of mosul from the terror group is making great strides. and it could happen quicker than expected. nbc's matt bradley reports from iraq. >> still not clear exactly when the iraqi security forces will be penetrating into mosul itself. and again, this is iraq's second largest city. this is really the super bowl of battles when it comes to islamic states being fought

but we do know that this battle is going apace. we have seen some advances yesterday and the day before. there is likely to be quite a bit of action today. the plan today is for the kurdish to probably take some christian villages to the north and northeast and a little bit to the east of mosul as they press further and further into the city itself. but the iraqi security forces have added a new element to the battle. that is the counterterrorism groups. these elite units were train the fight. these are the people who will be actually moving into mosul itself and bringing the fight to the heart of isis in mosul. in iraq's second largest city. the barrier ahead is going to be civilians. there is still 1.2 million civilians left in mosul. there is a lot of concern that islamic states are going to be using them as human shields. matt bradley, nbc news. >> sarah: now to a developing story: a sheriff's deputy and

many spots, including the city of boston which is fairly rare. it has only happened in about four times in record-keeping history. past october 19. so we may be done with the 8's for this year. here we go with the cloud cover. working in slowly but surely as we get into this afternoon. right now, mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. current temperatures, 61 in boston. 66 in norwood. it is warmer as you get farther to the south. 69 in new bedford. we will eventually bump in head into the overnight hours. but for now, our wind is coming in off the ocean water. and where the ocean water is 60 degrees. the wind kind of wants to blow that air temperature in our direction as well. so 15-mile-per-hour sustained winds in boston right now. it is fairly breezy. it gets windy for the weekend. we top out, generally speaking in the mid-6's today. cooler along the coastline. into tomorrow, you see those mild temperatures. we will also be dodging a few showers.

all that rain off to our west. this is a warm front to our south. that will eventually work north as i mentioned overnight tonight. and in through first part of tomorrow. and that does boost our temperatures up. i think even low 70's. not out of the question for tomorrow. but we've got the clouds. we also have sort of a murky feel to everything with those scattered showers throughout the day tomorrow. lasting through friday night into the first part of saturday. but there is also the potential that we can shut that action down for saturday afternoon sunday. we need the rain. we will take all we can get. the forecast models really have been all over the place with how this is going to pan out. we can plan on early estimates. half an inch to an inch widespread. then you see that there is the potential... we can't promise that it is right there across the south shore, plymouth area, the potential is there for two to three inches in some isoit had locations. if we get those heavy downpours. again, we will take every drop

detectives say a 20-year-old man was riding his bike on dewey street yesterday when a car hit him. a cyclist got pinned underneath. the men rushed over and used car-jacks to lift up the car and get the men out. the driver is expected to be okay. the cyclist is expected to be okay as well. there is no word yet on whether that driver will face any charges. vice president joe buyen speaking in boston on the possibility of curing cancer. biden appeared at the white house. one of the goals is to speed up the federal drug approval process and make it easier for

i'm loving these pictures, bri. >> bri: from sky 7, i'm wondering who is up there. this is your day of work today. this is fantastic. i'm so glad they are sharing this with us. you can see the clouds, though, starting to roll in on us. as expected. on time. even. we enjoyed some sunny skies earlier this morning. now the clouds, as they take over, will stick around for quite some time. not the warmth and the sunshine we had yesterday. in fact, there is also a bit of a breeze that is coming in off the ocean water. and that is going to keep temperatures sort of around o'degrees. especially along the coastline. it is also breezy. 10-15 miles per hour at this point. away from the coastline, we can warm things up a little bit. 66 in norwood currently. 64 in fitchburg. 58 in worcester. 60 in boston. we have a couple more degrees to go for the afternoon highs. generally speaking, in the mid to upper 60's for most of us. much closer to normal for this time of year than where we were yesterday. you may be looking at friday, thinking oh, all right.

cloud cover. and even some scattered showers. now, you can see this batch of showers right here moving throughling a beny right now. tracking to the northeast. this will not be moving to us at this point. as we take a look at the bigger picture, we will be getting the warm front to move through overnight tonight. here is what we are in for for today. late sprinkle. 62-67. here is the bigger picture i was waiting for. warm front just to our south. that will give us that mild air for tomorrow. it is sort of a south, southeasterly flow. boosting temperatures up fbs. but it is also going to bring us some shower activity. tomorrow is a day to have the rain gear with you. the umbrella, even the galoshes. it will not be a soaker all day long. on-again, off-again showers as we work through the timeline here. 3:00 this afternoon, we have the rain staying in the western part of the commonwealth. and then just some scattered showers in store for us for later on this evening. after dark tonight. after the sun has already gone down. then into tomorrow, 8:00 a.m. scattered showers for the

evening, we are even getting some reds and oranges and yellow colors popping up on the forecast map. end daying that there will be some heavy down pours associated with the on-again, off-again showers. that is why you want the umbrella handy. or else you might just get dumped on. and one certain moment of the day, when you step outside. how much rain is on the way? a little tricky. there could be some tropical moisture that sort of gets sucked into this action. now, generally speaking, i wosa inch we can count on. that is widespread. there could be some overachievers. it is really hard to pinpoint exactly where those spots that win the lion's share will be. winds as we get into the weekend, also picking up. it is breezy tomorrow. friday evening, still quite breezy. then into saturday afternoon, and also sunday, when we will see the strongest winds, gusts could get between 30-40 miles per hour. if the rain doesn't take down some of beautiful foliage, the
