jeremy? >> jeremy: the developing weather situation, city of worcester in particular, worcester county, flash flood warning in effect until 9:00 p.m. flash flooding imminent in the red shaded area here because of this plume of very heavy rain, downpour, even some thunderstorms in the city of worcester. the concern, of course, is that it's too much rain for the storm drains to handle. and then the complicating factor is that a lot of these storm drains likely have leaves cloggingm hills. and so friday night, big date night, of course. you're out and about in worcester county. flash flood warning in effect until 9:00 p.m., don't try to drive through a flooded roadway, because especially at night, you don't know how deep that water. is turn around, don't drown. again, flash flood warning in worcester county until 9:00 p.m. metro boston, it's not a significant situation. we have rain, and there will be bands of rain that come in from the south shore and the south coast, but again, flash flood

fitchburg and leominster in particular until 9:00 p.m. power house storm taking shape across the northeast. we detail that for you in a few minutes. >> john: j.r., thanks. also at:00, breaking news. two construction workers tragically killed when a trench gives way in the south end. they were in a hole that filled with water in just a matter of moments. >> this all happened near the intersection of dartmouth and tremont street. brandon gunnoe is live with what we know at this hour. brandon? >> brandon: well, john, we just got off the phone with boston fire. they tell us one of the men's bodies has been recovered, but they are still trying to recover the other man's body. i'm going to step out of the way so you can see this recovery effort still taking place. the problem right now is just how safe is the structure of the street and the sidewalk and down inside that trench? it's simply too dangerous to go down in there. so they have to carefully remove the debris that's caved in, but they tell us one of the men's bodies has been lovered.

two construction work verse died after a water main broke, flooding the two men trapped in a trench. >> it looked like somehow a pipe must have broke, and unfortunately they weren't able to get themselves out of the hole. >> this is like 20 feet deep down there? >> the firefighter said about 12 to 15 feet deep. >> brandon: it happened outside a brownstone in boston's south end. a mieft construction crew was working in the trench started to rush in. other workers escaped and tried to rescue the two men, but it was too late. >> i shut the water off. it appears to be a rescue operation. a recovery operation, i should say to, get these two people out. >> brandon: witnesses described a panic scene as water flooded the street, as well. workers tried to console each other after the two men died in the accident. >> it's sad. you know, construction is a dangerous, dangerous field.

still working, and basically what they've got is a big piece of equipment in there that's sucking that debris that's just caved in there. they have to be careful about it because of just how safe that structure is inside the trench, but again, boston fire department telling me that one of the men's bodies has been recovered. they're still working to recover that second man's body and osha has been called in to investigate. live in boston's south end, ban done gunnoe, 7news. >> john: witnesses on the street describing moments of fill with water. viewers had cell phones and they captured some of these images of that frantic situation. 7's tim caputo continues our team 7 coverage at the scene. tim? >> tim: certainly a scary scene for folks out here behind me at the intersection of tremont and dartmouth street. this is obviously a busy part of town, especially on an early friday afternoon, with an awful lot of people outside and also working in the area. they say that water came out as

shouldn't happen to nobody. >> tim: cell phone video shows just how quickly the water covered dartmouth street while people sprinted for head. >> water was skirting out of the ground, and we could see the workers running around in a panic. all of them were trying to get help. >> tim: two men were trapped inside the trench as water filled the hole. >> the first thing i saw was a bunch of water gushing real quick, coming toward the middle of the street. >> tim: some of the workers were able to get out of the street. >> some guys came out wet. the way the workers appeared when they left here, you could tell that something was really wrong. >> tim: in the minutes an hours that followed, many on these packed streets watched as workers consoled each other after this tragic work accident. with the exception of businesses right next to where this happened, nearly all of the restaurants and stores on this stretch of road and this part of town have remained open for this friday night rush.

>> jadiann: tonight we're learning more about the company involved in the tragedy. alex has more. >> alex: >> the atlantic drain company has been cited several times by federal investigators. they are located here on hyde park avenue here in roslindale. the company, according to their web site, says they are a second-generation drain company that fixes everything from household to hotel drains. here at the workplace, workers have been gathering all day, some even put flowers on the door. the company was established in 1978, and now another family member runs this business. we spoke with man nearby who says one of the victims is a grandfather and was recently here at the business introducing everyone to his grandchild. >> he didn't have bad bone in

he did so much for us, too, and i... it's just a tragedy what happened. it's just very sad. i'm still shocked that it happened. i still can't believe that it happened. >> alex: according to osha, which is the occupational safety and health straight, the company has been cited five times since 2006. most recently in september 2015 for two repeat violations involving underground the atlantic drain company was cited for not having a required rescue team. they were also cited for improper safety instruction, including evacuation plans. since 2007, osha showed this atlantic drain company has been cited 95,600 dollars. we're live in roslindale tonight, 7 news. >> jadiann: when this news broke, we sent out breaking news

>> steve: the 21-year-old suspect carried the middle school student into his apartment and sexually assaulted her as she was on her way to school yesterday morning. mateo claims he met the girl on social media at the beginning of the week and thought she was 18. police were quick the locate mateo and arrest him because he was wearing one of those g.p.s. tracking devices as a pretrial condition connected to his arrest back in april on charges of extortion and disseminating obscene material. >> i'm worried about bawr. she's 13 years old. she has asperger's. she's a very friendly child. >> mateo is facing new charges in connection with another case. police say a 27-year-old woman has come forward, identifying mateo as the man who tried to rape her back in may in lawrence. >> a young man that obviously is enticeing women. >> do you have anything to say at all? >> steve: mateo's family left the courthouse without comment.

feels a little safer. >> the guy has to be out of his mind to do something like that. >> steve: mateo is being held without bail. he returns to court next month for a dangerousness hearing. right now police can't say for sure whether or not there are any other victims here. in lawrence, steve cooper, 7 news. ism also on 7, a 13-year-old boy who was shot after a stray bullet ripped through his bedroom wall in chelsea is now recovering at home. the bullet ripping t into his shoulder. he described that terrifying experience and made a plea for less violence in the park next to his home. >> it's so hard. it felt like fire, just like burning. people can't even be safe in their own homes. it's just crazy. why are you going to shoot in a park for? it doesn't make sense. that's a kid's playground. >> jadiann: a 19-year-old everett man, christian garcia, was charged in that shooting. he's currently being held without bail.

blowing up a newspaper works in salem called to court today. 23-year-old john richard and 20-year-old lawrence gilleman allegedly used some fireworks to blow up a "rainbow times" newspaper box. the "rainbow times" is the largest l.g.b.t. newspaper in new england. the explosion happened back in august. it was caught on surveillance video. that helped police identify the men and it did lead to their arrest. police say they were originally investigating this as a hate crime, but they saw no evidence of that. a conclusion that newspaper >> we understand that hate crimes in any case are very difficult to prove, and so we agreed with the police and in the charges that were being brought because it's very important for us that they are held accountable for what they did. >> john: police say that same newspaper box was vandalized several times before and was moved to the town's square. but they say the two men charged with blowing it up are not involved in the previous vandal attacks.

they're a tough, physical group. that's pretty much what comes at of pittsburgh. >> trey: could be a big day for brady. the steelers' showcasing the 0th best pass defense in all the nfl. -- the 30th best. >> this is a 7news weather alert. >> jeremy: we have that flash flood warning in effect for worcester county. leominster, city of worcester in particular until 9:00. again, flash you're out and about and driving around on friday night. the heavens open up with this heavy rain. the concern here obviously is not for streams and rivers because we're still in an extreme drought. the ground can take this, but the storm drains can't. to complicate matters, in the worcester hills, in fact, all across southern new england, now leaves are beginning to clock those storm drains. so likely leading to street flooding, and that could be sewer street flooding in some situations. it does not take that much water to turn an event south.

number. 2.5 feet of water. so if you're out and about this evening and you see that around, don't try to blast your way through that. turn around. don't drown. so here you go. that's warm coloring right here. i-90 down through 395. 290 up into portions of hudson and marlborough as well. even though we're not technically under the flashed from warning. they have a flood advisory for extreme western middlesex county for very heavy rain. look at. this we' thunderstorms beginning to blossom across portions of eastern connecticut and western rhode island. this will work up into massachusetts over the next 45 minutes to an hour. how much rain? many areas with this yellow plume indicating at least one to two inches of rain. that's just within the last two hours. that's a lot of rain for those storm drains. that's why we have flash flooding going on right now worcester county. flash flood warnings until 9:00. metro boston, we have rain, but not the flooding-type rain. although there could be a burst

then there will be a second batch of showers that will work up into southern new england around noon tomorrow and r into about the middle of the afternoon, between say 12:00 and 3:00 p.m., some time in that window. some showers coming through that. will be the could front that swings through southern new england. so the amount of rainfall on the way, again, this is not including what has already fallen. worcester and fitchburg. that's an additional inch possible around metro boston. so a narrow ribbon in worcester county. you may end up with about 2 and lf rain from this powerhouse storm. the storm peels out of here tomorrow afternoon, but to take its place will be wind and quite a bit of it. in fact, i think winds are going to gust from the northwest tomorrow night and on sunday between 35 and 45mph. sunday's the brighter of the two weekend days, but still a lot of
