but...president obama says he would like to find a replacement before then. two newton inmates are still missing after making a run for it this weekend and correctional officers say it feels like deja vu.... michael amodeo and jessy foley were nowhere to be found saturday night during a routine check. the two are now the second and third inmates to escape the confines of newton's facility in just one month. 28-year-old edward shorter attempted the same thing when he walked away from the facility. he was captured a day later in des moines. the department of corrections says it can't say for sure whether the latest escapees pose a threat to the public.... most people, if they make this choice, they dont want to get caught, so a lot of times they try to stay hidden as much as they can so its a real difficult question to answer as far as if theres any public safety or not.' the department of corrections says officials are investigating the escape and discussing ways they

again. it's been an emotional day of testimony in the trial of a des moines man charged in a deadly, high-speed crash. 24-year-old troy mure junior is on trial for the death of 22 year old scalicity perez boyd last november. accident investigators put his speed at more than 80 miles an hour at the time of the crash. mure claims the two were being chased by a silver cadillac...with at least one armed man inside.... when the driver tapped his bumper...he lost control and slammed into a telephone poll. the state says there was no evidence that mure was hit from behind. and the impact of the crash split the car in two...ejecting boyd. police say even if she was wearing a seat belt, it wouldn't have made a difference. mure is facing one count of vehicular homicide. a judge, not a jury, is hearing his case. testimony continues in the trial of a boone man accused of murdering his wife... alexander fazzino is facing

he's accused of killing his wife, emily, back in 20-12. monday the defense began its case.... theyre trying to prove emily accidentally drowned in a bathtub because of a prescription drug addiction. her mother-in-law testified that she saw emily stumble, stagger, and slur her words multiple times in the last year of her life. "i was very concerned, it was very upsetting. i was upset for her, i was upset for the kids, i was upset for my son. now at that time and all times, you loved emily as a daughter. i loved her, i loved her, and i thought we had a very close relationship." fazzinos former house keeper also testified... she pled the fifth when asked if she sold emily drugs. the trial continues today in decorah. today lawmakers are trying to strengthen iowa's animal abuse laws..

animal abuse rates are on the rise in iowa...so he championed a law to come down harder on those who do it. under the bill...anyone accused with animal abuse could be charged with a felony. right now it's an aggravated misdemeanor. the bill also requires the department of human services to do a wellness check if the abuse happens in front of a child. yesterday the bill passed the senate and today it heads to the house. currently....iowa's animal abuse laws are considered to be among the softest in the nation by animal welfare advocates. students from across the state will put their sauteing skills to the test today... a top chef style cooking competition has 17 teams of aspiring chefs facing off for an opportunity to compete at nationals. while many will be focused on winning today, the bigger prize may be a career. dozens of local restaurants will be on hand to scout some potential new talent. the event runs at the iowa event center until 2...

families expecting babies mark the due date on the calendar for months. but when the newborn has health challenges, there can be a delay in taking the baby home... new cameras in one indianapolis hospital are helping families get through the stressful time with less worry. anne marie tiernon reports. it's so gratifying to see little graham's progress. "he looks so good. his color is really good today." he's 7 weeks old and at just over 3 pounds...nearly triple in size compared to his birth weight. "you came early" graham is one of the tiniest preemies at st vincent women's nicu. "well, i just can't wait for him to get home" back home ...an hour and half drive from the nicu...graham has three older siblings. "they just drop us off at school go up there and see him and then come back and pick us up and every weekend we always go over there" but that distance... and time between visits is passing with less worry... because now they can log on any time any day...and watch a live

right above graham's bed. "i see him waving at me... ha ha, he's saying take me home "both parents work... "it's such a comfort we pull it up all the time anywhere we are out and about on our phone we are constantly like what's he doing how does he look today?" dad's on the road. "just being at my hotel and being able to see him at night is awesome you know. just being able to check in and know that he is ok" there are now 197 cameras... in the nicu... the staff got training before going live online. "to be really honest it was a little concerning at first, they were afraid of what a minute i'm going to be under camera and they saw the impact it gave for the families so that really helped them get over that" in the first two months... the hospital has tracked 65-thousand log-ins... many by ...grandparents... aunts and loved ones out of state connect. "there were times where i didn't know what i was going to eat, there were times where i didn't know where i was going to sleep" at 18, brandon jordan was a high school dropout... homeless... but not

"i wanted more for myself but i didn't quite have the opportunity" but that all changed while working at a fast food restaurant last summer, he saw an ad for year up jordan - now 24 - applied to the non- profit, which offers low-income young adults six months of training and a six- month corporate internship in information technology, finance or customer service. "it just seems too good to be true when you hear about it" more than 6 and half million 16 to 24 year olds in the u.s. are not in school or working. almost one-third of them are black. year up - which offers a daily stipend and college credit to each participant -- is aimed at helping these so-called "opportunity youth." "students go through a 6-month bootcamp, learning technical and professional skills, including the importance of showing up on time. they'll get a stipend for every day they attend class, but they'll lose points, and money, if they're late, dress unprofessionally or fail to complete assignments. and if they lose too many points, they're out." gerald chertavian founded year

"we know that talent is distributed evenly across this country yet opportunity is not." twenty-five percent of those who start year up don't finish. those who make it through the first six months are awarded a six-month internship. about 250 companies have partnered with year up and spend almost 28-thousand dollars to cover the cost of each each intern. year up alum bryan goodson was working in a pizza shop three years ago, now he's a business solutions consultant at salesforce.com, which has hired more than half of the 200 interns it has taken since 2009. "if someone told me three years ago that i'd be doing what i'm doing today, i wouldn't believe it, i might even have laughed." 85-percent of year up alums have a full-time job or are enrolled in college full time within four months of completing the program. jordan hopes to follow goodson's path. he landed an internship in the it department at the retailer aaron's "i was like yeah you know, i did gonna do this,

good afternoon.. this is the agribusiness report.. i'm david geiger. in a vote of 14 to 6 the biotechnology labeling solutions markup passed today in the senate agriculture committee.. according to the draft, it would require usda to set a voluntary national food labeling standard for genetically engineered foods, preempt state labeling laws on both gmo foods and seed, and require usda to provide consumers with information on the benefits of biotechnology. senator pat

the ag committee was pushing for the legislation.. he showed a letter supporting the chairman's mark.. of six hundred 52 organizations representing parts of the whole food chain. "never before have we seen such a coalition of our constituents all united behind such an effort. their message is clear. it is time for us to act and it's time for us to provide certainty in the marketplace by approving the mark before us today." in july.. vermont will implement a mandatory genetically engineered labeling law. former ag chair senator patrick leahy from vermont says the senate bill undermines the public right to know.. and it tramples on state rights.. and replaces them with a voluntary standard that already exists. and would block other states bills like alaska's and virginia's. "i think it's a solution looking for a non-existant problem. it's a last minute attack on vermont's laws. vermont is right to set priorities at the state government level." leahy adds there is a grace
