interstates in the midlands. interstate 26 is temporarily closed both ways in orangeburg county. the roadway is closed at the 145 mile marker and 149 mile marker due to ice on bridges, according to the south carolina highway patrol. i-95 southbound over lake marion is also closed because of ice. drivers are asked to avoid those areas. sc dot trucks are salting and brining the affected areas. places that saw snow yesterday in the midlands are continuing to see it t this morning. the town of whitmire got a fresh coating just within

riverbanks zoo they are on a two hour delay. to get all the closings go to wistv-dot-com. stay on top of the weather by downloading the wis weatherapp. it's free; just search wis in your app store. the city of columbia is prepared for whatever weather is ahead this weekend. public works department officials anticipate the temperatures will not be cold enough to freeze water on the roadways, but officials are closely watching the bridges. they have salt and brine trucks ready to roll and four drivers prepared to do temperature checks depending on the weather conditions. "we have four completely loaded with salt and sand right now and i have one on the yard that's empty, but we can load within a matter of five minutes and be ready to go." experts suggest parking on the street instead of

days. they also warned that snow plows may not clear some city streets until tomorrow. most of washington's top tourist attractions, including the smithsonian museums and the national zoo, are closed all weekend due to the snow. the national mall was shut down to the public yesterday. thousands of drivers are completely stranded on a remote and icy stretch of a kentucky highway. officials say there were so many crashes on interstate 75 in rockcastle county, they had to shut it down. no one was seriously hurt. but drivers who are out there now are unable to move in any direction. crews are working to remove several tractor- trailers that got stranded in the mess. it's unclear when the highway could reopen. officials have set up at least two shelters for stranded travelers in that area. this was the scene in baltimore, maryland. sand and salt trucks made their last minute

to fall. they're urging drivers to stay indoors and off the roads. forecasters are predicting more than three feet of snow to blanket baltimore and its surrounding counties... and up to 50 mile-per-hour wind gusts. the heavy snowfall is expected to last until tomorrow. as of right now 223 flights in and out of charlotte have been cancelled. there are also many cancellations in other places experiencing winter storms. many of the major airlines will allow you to change your flight without a fee or penalty. there are restrictions, so check with the airline before you make any changes to your flight. you're not the only one dealing with this winter weather -- so are your pets. here are some ways to keep them safe. wash and dry your pet's paws when you get back in from walks. salt and ice could cause redness and irritation. also -- your pets exert more energy when it gets cold... so it wouldn't hurt to feed

and -- limit the time outside. if it's too cold for you.. it's probably too cold for your pet. overnight we learned the suspect in a columbia armed robbery is dead -- after columbia police responded to a call of shots fired at the next up barber and beauty shop. just before 7 o'clock last night, witnesses told police, two armed suspects wearing masks came in the shop demanding money. people in the barbershop ended up firing at the suspects. several people were there at the time, including children. cpd has confirmed one of the suspect's weapons was stolen from a south columbia home back in 2012. police are still searching for the second suspect and... are asking anyone with information to call crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. coming up, the cold weather and rain could mean ice. which could also leave some people in the dark. what you need to know? next.

part of everyday living." and the country's air traffic is at a virtual standstill -- with more than 76-hundred flights canceled this weekend. a good samaritan was shot and killed in catawba county, north carolina yesterday while trying to help a driver stranded on ice. several neighbors tried to help a man who's tires were spinning, and another man stopped his pickup to help too. they said the stranded driver was acting strangely before getting out of his car, pistol drawn. he then shot the good samaritan stopped to help several times, leaving him dead. police had to approach with armored vehicles and shields, but were finally able to arrest the man. police in canada are investigating a deadly shooting that left four people dead. it happened a school in la roche, saskatchewan last two others were hurt, before officers went to the school and arrested the suspected shooter. police are not saying anything

my travels over the holidays took me to several states. it was such a relief to get out of south carolina and into our neighboring states to see three-lane, pothole-free roads. even though it was the number one priority last session, our elected officials failed to pass legislation to fix the infrastructure problem. governor nikki haley made it clear during her state of the state address wednesday night that she is standing firm. haley sot: "i will not sign any piece of legislation that raises taxes not in year one, not in year five, not in year ten. i will not sign any piece of legislation that does not include real reform to the department of transportation the days of horse-trading south carolina roads have to end. and i will not buy into the idea

walmart says many of its u-s workers will be getting a pay raise next month. the retail giant says every walmart and sam's club employee hired before the start of the year will soon earn at least 10 dollars an hour. more than a million u-s workers will get the pay hike starting february 20th. amazon-dot-com says it will offer refunds to anyone who bought hoverboards on its website. the move comes amid growing concerns that the two-wheeled balance boards are not safety and fire hazard. the consumer product safety commission is investigating more than three dozen instances of hoverboards smoking or bursting into flames. despite the decision, amazon still sells hoverboards on its site. the c-d-c has expanded its list of countries they believe pregnant women should wait to visit. the c-d-c says pregnant women should postpone
