lead in the first quarter on their way to a 49 to 15 victory over the cardinals. cam newton continued his mvp season, accounting for four touchdowns through the air and on the ground. meanwhile, the panthers defense forced seven turnovers as they pounded their way into super bowl 50 to face the denver broncos. as nice as last night's n- f-c victory was, the panthers know there's still plenty more on their horizon. whether in the stadium or watching on television, fans were loud in the city of charlotte. those without tickets to o e game flocked to bars and restaurants to cheer on their team and celebrate into the early morning hours. raycom news network's steve crump has more. "the post game victory party lasting well past midnight here in center city. and this is a day many people will likely call out sick from their jobs." from the very first score the fans were all into it. that was the case in the firsrs quarter. at bank of america stadium the electricity was very real. one of the themes...and that made quite a statement for fans who didn't have tickets to the game. roofs--this church in the winter snow storm. an elderly couple in greenville lost power during the storm and later died of carbon monoxide poisoning when their garage door somehow closed with a generator running inside. a pedestrian was also killed in a weathth-related crash in greenville county. two men wanted for an armed robbery in lexington county are also wanted for fraud. lexington county deputies say two men stole checks from the la gaviota grocery on augusta highway earlier this month. investigators say one of the suspects tried to cash the check at businesses in greenville, kershaw and saluda counties using fake ids. he has been seen in a newer honda accord or an old white work van. if you know recognize this man or have any information that can help investigators call crimestoppers at 1- 888-crime-sc. one man is in jail after deputies say he led them on a chase in northeast columbia. saturday night-- richland county deputies responded to an aggravated assault call on camrose court.

fired shots at them before running into the woods. he was caught and is now facing attempted murder and weapons charges. two teenagers are recovering after being shot early sunday morning. it happened at a party on foxhunt road in northeast columbia. investigators say the victims were shot multiple times after being approached by several peooe. we're told the two teens are o-k. if you know anything about this shooting, call crimestoppers at 1- 888-crime-sc. a columbia lawn care company trying to work its way back from the floods -- is now facing another setback after the owners say they were targeted by thieves. dave bussert and his son zack are co- owners of 'lawn doctor of columbia'. thursday night they say their equipment trailer was parked outside company headquarters on sunbelt court. when they came back the next morning -- the trailer was gone. the busserts say they just put more than four thousand dollars into refurbishing the trailer. their business was one of many that got flooded out last october -- they suffered more than 100 thousand dollars in damage.

take the super bowl 50 win. we'll have those stories for you all new at 5:30. this morning -- much of the northeast continues to dig out from this weekend's record- breaking snow storm. the federal government and schools in our nation's capitol will remain closed today because of the massive amounts of snow that's fallen. in this video you can see just how much snow remains on the ground in washington, d.c. up to 20 inches of snow fell in some areas. nbc's edward lawrence has the latest. now the story turns to storm clean up! cities dig out while dealing with below freezing temperatures. "the roads uh... they're ok. the main roads are great. they're open; they're flowing, and there's a lot of spots they haven't touched yet, and there's a lot of mess out there." at least 30 deaths are blamed on the storm. many of them came from traffic accidents.. others came from heart attacks related to shoveling snow after it fell. several roofs also collapsed from the storm

"getting back to business as usual is going to take a considerable amount of time." some neighborhoods still buried because plows can't get there yet. chris gephart can't even see out of his window. rescue crews still responding to emergencies on streets with two feet of snow. they lose minutes when every second counts. the mayor of baltimore could not "given the condition of many of our streets i think it's safest for our citizens to minimize travel on our roads." on the eastern shore of new jersey it's flooding not snow causing problems. but in d.c. residents made the best of a cold, uncomfortable situation... i'm edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. meanwhile over in rabun county, georgia, many people spent the weekend without power after a winter storm swept through much of the state. around two inches of snow and a tenth of f inch ofofce fell in the atlanta metro area. it brought more than a foot of snow in the northeast georgia mountains. the storm brought down trees and power lines. crews worked on sunday to restore power to homes. and take a look at this.

basketball team got a big win of their own sunday. the second ranked gamecocks were on the road for another game against a ranked opponent -- number 10 mississippi state. the bulldogs packed out the game with a record of more than 10,600 fans in attendance. this game stayed close all the way through -- but a late surge helped cap off the win. the gamecocks 57-51 to improve to 19-0 on the season. the usc men will be looking for their next win tomorrow night after their 2nd loss of the season this past weekend. the gamecocks fell on the road to the tennessee volunteers saturday, 78 to 69. the men play tomorrow night against mississippi state at colonial life arena. the game starts at 7pm and airs on the sec

legacy of the cia's so- called "secret war" during the vietnam era. his aids say he's expected to announce a major initiative to clear unexploded u-s bombs in laos. the president will reportedly make his initiative official during his landmark trip to laos this fall. he's been working to improve u-s relations with southeast asia as a counterbalance to china. former new york city mayor michael bloomberg may be considering a possible independent presidential run. that's what one source told cnn. the source says the 73- year-old is expected to make a decision sometime in march. a spokesman for the former mayor declined to comment. news of bloomberg's consideration was first reported by the new york times. michigan's attorney general is set to provide an update on the ongoing water crisis in flint. he's expected to discuss the investigation at a news conference this morning. the financially struggling city switched from detroit's municipal water system and began drawing from the flint river in 2014 to save money. residents have been urged to use

this morning columbia police are still searching for one person connected to an armed robbery where another suspect was shot and killed. friday night -- columbia police responded to a shooting at the 'next up barber and beauty shop' on fort jackson boulevard. witnesses say two armed suspects wearing masks came in demanding money. people in the barbershop fired at the suspects - killing one. police have confirmed one of the suspect's weapons was stolen from a columbia home back in 2012. if you have any information on the other person on the run -- call crimestoppers at 1- 888-crime-sc. two men wanted for an armed robbery in lexington county are also wanted for fraud. lexington county deputies say two men stole checks from the la gaviota grocery on augusta highway earlier this month. investigators say one of the suspects tried to cash the check at businesses in greenville, kershaw and saluda counties using fake ids.

swept across the east coast over the weekend. clean up continued late into the night sunday in washington dc -- one of the hardest hit cities. d.c. general government offices and schools will be closed today in an effort to keep people off the streets. heavy snow drifts have been a serious problem for first responders trying to do their jobs. about two feet of snow fell inside an industrial building in maryland after explosion caused the roof to collapse -- making it difficult for fire fighters to get inside. a fire also broke out at an auto body shop -- and the national guard was needed to help dig out fire hydrants from the snow. at both scenes, fire crews say they were worried about water freezing while they were battling the flames. meanwhile over in rabun county, georgia, many people spent the weekend without power after a winter storm swept through much of the state. around two inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice fell in the atlanta metro area. it brought more than a foot of crews worked on sunday to restore power to homes. the good news -- this storm has
