couch, who had been on the lam in mexico with his mother tonya when he was caught t ast month, officially dropped his appeal against deportation on wednesday. the two were found in mexico last month, weeks after a warrant was issued for ethan's arrest on a possible probation violation. he was sentenced to probation for killing four people in a 2013 drunk driving crash. we now know the trial date for the confessed charleston church shooter. dylann roof's trial is scheduled to begin on july 11. court documents reveal 600 people will be called initially to serve as potential jurors. roof confessed that he shot and killed nine people during a bible study inside emanuel a- m-e church in charleston in june of last year. the army veteran who helped lead the charge against the u-s department of veterans affairs for delays in care...has been laid to rest in kershaw county. barry coates died of cancer saturday. in 2014....he testified before congress that he had to wait a year for a colonoscopy. the procedure was reportedly delayed at several v-a facilities.

only to learn he had terminal colon cancer. coates' story led to national controversy about lengthy waits at v-a hospitals and led to the overhaul of the department of veterans affairs. the 46-year-old husband and father was buried wednesday in bethune. the recent death of a lancaster county man has started yet another national recall of airbag inflators. joel knight was killed in december after his ford ranger collided with a cow. federal officials with the national highway traffic and safety administration say the airbag inflator deployed and propelled a piece of metal that hit and killed him. while previous recalls have involved older model vehicles ....this new one includes at least one 20- 14 model. knight's death is one of 11 now linked to faulty airbags from takata. "this is a completely avoidable tragedy where a man lost his life because of a product that was supposed to save his life." takata airbags released a statement saying quote: "our heartfelt condolences go

family. we are cooperating fully with regulators and our automotive customers and continue to take aggressive action to advance vehicle safety, including through our ongoing testing efforts, replacement kit production, and raising consumer awareness of recalled vehicles." a nearly yearlong ininstigation into a drug ring in newberry leaves three men behind bars. yesterday, officers served a warrant at 820 taylor street just after noon. raheem jackson, telly jones and jermetres kirkland were all arrested. investigators seized crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, and several firearm including one that is already confirmed stolen. police say more arrested are expected. a bond hearing will be held later this afternoon for the trio. a man was caught on surveillance stealing money from a convenience store. columbia police hope you can help i-d him. take a look at your screen.

islamic extremist attacks around paris killed 130 people in november. today, nasa is holding a day of remembrance 30 years after the space shuttle challenger exploded just 73-seconds after liftoff. all seven astronauts onboard were killed including south carolina native ronald mcnair. as part of nasa's annual day of remembrance -- those men and women will be honored along with other nasa personnel who have lost their lives while furthering the cause of exploration and discovery. good news on the job front-- the number of people seeking unemployment benefits fell last week. in spite of the global decline in the stock market, the new numbers show employers are not cutting jobs. weekly applications for unemployment benefits fell by 16-thousand. experts say the decline suggests confident enough the economy will grow to hold on to employees. wednesday the federal reserve, citing weakening u-s growth, indicated it may slow the pace of

reporter danielle barber explains the signs to recognize and when it might be time to see a doctor. :13-21 "it would be a kind of a depression that's particularly connected to the changes in the seasons." while there is no definitive answer as to what causes seasonal affective disorder, dr. robert olson has a theory. "we are animals. the birds, they fly south. the bears hibernate. those are driven by the day light in the same way we are affected by day light." the symptoms that people experience are strikingly similar to that of depression. that of depression. "the sorts of troubles of depression like down mood, lack of interest, lack of motivation, can't concentrate, tearfulness, those kinds of things, they're very similar." but, there's one distinction that differentiates the two and calls for immediate attention. "the depression part that's so difficult that it's interfering with my function.

causing trouble at my work or as a student or in my relationship with my spouse, that sort of thing." though there are several therapies depression, dr. olson recommends light therapy. "what bright light does is it fools your body. it fools your body to think it's a shorter day length. it seems to also affect neurotransmitters, serotonin, so we think about depression, too" for some people, however, therapy or anti-depressents aren't enough.
