on the basketball court at mount pisgah elementary... ...parents cheered as speakers scored points against the kershaw county school board trustees in the loud, sometimes unruly, battle on the hardwood. one by one, they took the mic to tell superintended dr. frank morgan and the board they don't want to see this school and nearby bethune elementary close and consolidate elsewhere. chris mangum says a consolidated school would hurt the education of his children. "why do people want to come to a community? jobs. but with those jobs, if they have kids, why would they want to come somewhere where they don't know if their kid will get a good education or will be bussed 30 miles." the board has considered the idea before. it was part of a 2014 referendum that was shot

"dallas county health and human services has received confirmation of a zika case associated with acquiring locally, and as a result of that, we informed our medical community and the public at large that zika has made its appearance in dallas county." the centers for disease control and prevention say the patient who developed zika did not have

meeting to consolidate the schools at a site to be determined. district officials are pushing for the new school -- because the two schools in question do not have up-to-date facilities. board members say the quality of education is the most important and the move to consolidate would increase learning. "how do you best serve students in small rural schools -- provide them the same, and more opportunities for students across other parts of our county, but still have a cost-effective means of doing that." france's government is calling for a three-month extension of the state of emergency that was declared after the novermber terror attacks in paris. the measure proposed just this morning in a cabinet meeting now requires parliament's approval. the state of emergency has already been extended once and was scheduled to end on february 26th. it expands police powers to carry out searches and arrests. todod, u-s house lawmakers will discuss the water crisis in flint michigan. an oversight committee will take a close look at the flint safe drinking water it was established by the e-p-a in october after lead wawadetected in flint's tap the contamination happened after a cost- cutting move in 2014...when the city switched it's water source from detroit to the flint flint's finances were being managed by the state of michigan at the time. california regulators have voted to extend mandatory water cutbacks first set by governor jerry brown last year.

now of a tornado that ripped through parts of mississippi last night. the homeowner was recording when that massive twister moved through this neighborhood. when it was all over -- several buildings including a church were left in ruins. one man who witnessed the storm described what happened as the tornado hit near his home. happening right now to make repairs. a tornado tracked across pickens county on tuesday afternoon. the storm originated in scooba, mississippi where the local national weather service office confirmed a tornado there. there is a tornado warning for pickens, lamar, and fayette counties until 6 p.m. the storm has been moving in a northeastern direction from geiger to aliceville to carrollton. we expect the storm to continue tracking to fayette county. aliceville police said that the storm damaged the federal corrections institute in aliceville as well as a few homes nearby. storm tracker brett adair reports significant damage to structures north of mcmullen. there were reports of two people who were trapped north of mcmullen. one person was freed and crews were working to rescue another person. minor injuries were reported in that area. a brick home has damage and several mobile homes have been damaged as well along martin luther king road. we are also receiving reports of trees and utility poles down. strong winds blew pastor ray

parents and kershaw county school board members are not seeing eye-to-eye on combining two local schools. our michal higdon is live at mt. pisgah elementary school where parents met with school leaders last night in an effort to get the district to change it's mind -- michal? overwhelming response from parents at last night's meeting ultimately lead to the kershaw county school board's decision to postpone discussion on the location of a consolidated school -- until it's next meeting. many parents do not want to see mt. pisgah or bethune elementary schools close -- if it means students will have to move to a consolidated campus in a different location. not only are parents concerned about their children possibly having a longer bus ride to a new school -- they're also worried

community growth. residents who live in bethune say losing their high school and middldlschool in the past couple of decades -- makes them more concerned about the school consolidation. "we want to keep our school in bethune. it's a small community. it's not just a school, we're part of a town." "we are mindful that when we make a decision to locate a school, that impacts the community." "if there's not a good school how are we ever going to grow and be vital to kershaw county and bring new people in." that was suzanne gordon, a local realtor. she fears if bethune elementary leaves the town, the value of properties will go down as much as 30 percent. the kershaw county school board will be bringing up this subject again at it's next meeting in two weeks. if they agree on where to locate the new school, the board has to vote to put the project on a
