showers with a few thunderstorms this morning will quickly race to the coast by sunrise we'll start to clear the sky before noon. it will be windy and warmer with highs in the lower to middle 60s. sunny and dry over the next several days with daytime highs in the middle to upper 60s.overnight lows from the upper 30s to middle parts of the south. a tornado from this funnel cloud touched down in parts of northwest florida, monday. several homes and business in the town of mcdavid were damaged and thousands were left without power. schools will be closed in that area today because of the storms.

damage as night fell over the area near century, florida. you can see numerous homes were nearly leveled, power lines and trees were down in this particular neighborhood. one woman had to be rescued from her home. presidential candidate :58-1:02 "i am not a single issue flint. presidential candidate1:10-1:18 "i've just come from a meeting that was one of the more difficult meetings that i have ever attended." analysts believe the flint water crisis is an issue that resonates with african american voters across the country. dan scheneman nbc news. another contender, florida senator marco rubio, is calling for "no" action on a new supreme court justice to replace the late antonin scalia. rubio spoke with wis news 10 on his campaign bus last night. justice scalia died over the weekend. rubio says with a new president coming in in less than a year, now is not the time for the u.s. senate to approve a new nominee and the senate should refuse to confirm a new justice regardless of who president obama picks, if anyone. he also reiterated his support for tougher immigration policies but says his policy is not "amnesty" for foreigners in the country illegally. hispanic communities are the first ones impacted by illegal immigration. it's their schools that get crowded, their hospitals that

public services that get strained. i think, obviously, when you know someone who's here:, illegally, you know their personal story. it's very sad. but you also have to understand that this is the most generous country in the world on immigration. a million people a year immigrate to the united states, legally, permanently, every year, 1 million. no other country even comes close to that. so, it's not like were talking about being anti- immigrant. we are just saying that we have a right to choose who comes here, how they come here, and when they come here. we are a sovereign country. out reach to minorities can be very important here in south carolina in particular, where you have a very large minority community. overwhelmingly democrat. what happens in the general i support free enterprise, because it's the only economic

the past haven't voted for us. communities that have been told by democrats for a long time that republicans don't care about people like them. well, i am people like them. i come from that background. rubio has talked about his christain faith in heavily evangelical south carolina but he says voters in less strongly christian parts of the country should also be reassured by his faith we'll have more of our interview with senator marco rubio later on sunrise. ahead of next week's democratic primary, candidate bernie sanders is making stops in the capital city. this morning, sanders will be at allen university for the "faith and justice breakfast." he's then heading over to the usc campus to speak with students in the russell house theatre. the usc town hall is for students with a valid student i.d. a giant in the civil rights movement is in town to campaign for hillary clinton. vernon jordan, who served as an influential advisor to president bill clinton, also held prominent positions with the naacp and the national urban league. he says ever since he met hillary clinton back in

life of service. jordan acknowledges he's been friends with the clintons for many years but says he truly believes of all the candidates, hillary clinton is the most qualified and most prepared to lead our nation. investigators have released video of a cayce policeman who was shot while trying to make an arrest last november. "listen to me, put your hands behind your back. don't tense up--you're tensing up. i'ma tell you...no, i'm trying to explain to you." "listen to me, you're pulling away." "you got my hand man." "you're being charged with resisting now. you're being charged with resisting." shots fired the video was released by the cayce department of public safety monday, and was taken the night of november 17th. officers were called to the scene on lorick street, where they tried to arrest 21-year-old demetrius bryant on a drug violation. bryant then fired at them--hitting one of the officers. the other officer fired back, killing bryant. yesterday, the cayce department of public safety announced that a sled investigation has cleared officer rhett kelley and

ballentine of any wrongdoing. ballentine returned to duty last week. officer kelly is back at work on limited duty as he continues to recover. in kershaw county two different families are devastated after a teenager was shot and killed -- and a husband and father is now behind bars. jimmy methe has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. kershaw county investigators say methe shot and killed 17-year-old brandon spencer after he found the teen stealing from his truck. wis' meaghan norman has the latest. "he got caught up in something that had a horrible ending." ranel willoughby says she tried to save her grandson's life after starting to see a pattern of bad behavior. "he had recently been caught stealing and was experimenting with marijuana./ "i've been preaching and preaching to him, 'don't do things, you're going to get in trouble." early saturday morning her worst nightmare came true. "i saw all the lights in my yard and i'm realistic, i

opened the door and i really thought brandon had got into trouble." her grandson, 17-year-old brandon spencer had been killed. kershaw county sheriff jim matthews says the teen was stealing from a vehicle when the homeowner came outside with a gun. "jimmy methe is paying a terrible price for what he did and many people think he's fine for what he did but it's not and i don't want to see it happen to anyone else." investigators say methe shot and killed spencer as he ran away. "the bottom line is you can't pull the trigger on someone who's running away from you after they've stolen something." methe's neighbor and close friend, nicole key says her neighborhood has seen vehicle break-ins for the last 6 months. "it's a sad situation that the kid lost his life and

as the battle over who will fill the vacancy left in the supreme court plays out on the campaign trail, white house officials say president obama will conduct a robust process in making his nomination. senate republicans have promised to delay confirmation of any nominee the president puts forward to replace the late conservative justice antonin scalia, who died on saturday. deputy white house press secretary eric schultz yesterday accused republicans of playing politics. he said not to expect a nominee in the next week--given the senate is in recess. "our expectation is that members of the united states senate will do their jobs, and yes, that includes republicans. that includes identifying an ample number of republicans who take their oath of office seriously, and who take their fidelity to the united states constitution seriously enough to do their jobs." the white house says the supreme court must be fully staffed as it considers a number of important cases this year.

next monday. the colorado planned parenthood clinic targeted in a shooting rampage is back in business.. planned parenthood of the rocky mountains in colorado springs reopened yesterday. only part of the building was open because parts of it are still being repaired. the entrance was damaged by a police vehicle after a gunman shot and killed three people there in november. robert lewis dear has confessed to carrying out the shooting. he's charged with murder, attempted murder, and other counts. still to come this morning on sunrise... it was a big night for music artists as the 58th annual grammys unfolded in los angeles. find out the big winners next in the grammy wrap

democratic presidential is in the capital city today to speak at two events. sanders will be at allen university for the "faith and justice breakfast" happening this morning at 10. he then will head over to the usc campus for a town student i.d. that event is starting at 11 this morning. as we get closer to the first in the south primary, be sure to right now in the alert center a flight in route to new york city had to be diverted late last night because of severe weather... delta flight 944 was sent to manchester-new hampshire last night. airline officials say the jfk-airport in new york experienced landing issues all day because of the same weather that impacted this flight there were no injuries reported in the incident. delta says it was working on hotel accommodations for the flight's 159 passengers. officials say they'll head to new york later this morning. some students at keenan high

credited for helping deputies arrest a woman accused of making threats. 18-year old delijah robinson is charged with having a weapon on school grounds. students reported robinson sending threatening messages to their phones following a dispute, and told a school resource officer. robinson was later confronted by the officer in the school's parking lot. deputies found a gun in the front passenger seat of robinson's car. she was taken to the alvin s. glenn detention center. investigators say a midlands restaurant owner may have shot and killed a man because he was involved with his wife. it happened sunday night at a park-and-ride location off of highway 378 in lexington county. warrants from lexington police state the victim was in the back seat of a pickup truck with greg leon's wife when leon fired several shots into the vehicle. she was not injured. leon had previously been linked to the federal indictment against former lexington county sheriff james metts...and received one year probation. he's now charged with murder. over the past several years, you've likely noticed some construction and improvements happening at the

assembly street. and there's good news -- the first part of those renovations are almost complete. and our michal higdon is live there this morning with an exclusive sneak peek at what's being done -- michal? i am on the third floor of the library -- which is set to open to the public by the end of heating and air systems to new bookshelves and furniture. this is all thanks to a bond referendum that richland county voters approved several years ago. it allowed 15 million dollars to go toward this renovation at the main richland library branch. this 3rd floor of the branch will also be used for career advancement services. you'll see more spaces with computers, more seating, and even a coaching practice interviews can be conducted. library leaders say these upgrades were requested by the community -- and everyone is excited to start using the new space. "really great because, you know, we've been talking about this like you said for

coast guard officials are expected to focus on the events that led up to the sinking of the ship. that includes previous voyages the el faro made as well as the coast guard's search and rescue efforts. a second hearing will focus on the voyage itself that took the lives of all 33 people on board. occupier cliven bundy is expected to be in court today. he'll answer to charges brought against him from an armed confrontation back in 2014 that forced federal officials to release cattle being rounded up near his ranch in nevada. bundy is the first to face charges in what some hailed as a victory in the fight to turn over federal land to state control. bundy's son ammon staged an armed sit-in on federal land in oregon for the same issue. the white house says president obama will make his first visit to vietnam in may. the announcement came after the president met with vietnam's prime minister at a summit with southeast asian leaders in california. the president's visit this spring will be a side trip while in the region for the "group of seven" summit in japan. president opbama will become the third straight

the planned parenthood office in colorado-- which was the scene back in november of a mass shooting and police standoff, is now back open. some repairs are still being made as bullet holes can be seen on the building. officials also say new security measures are in place. one restaurant in columbus, ohio has reopened its doors-- just days after a violent machete attack left several people injured at the eatery. the healing process has just begun for the nazareth restaurant and deli. last thursday, mohamed barry walked into the restaurant and started swinging a machete, injuring four people. he was fatally shot by officers when he tried to lunge at them while wielding the machete and a knife. over in washington state, king county has issued flood alerts and warnings for three area rivers. there is a potential for widespread, moderate flooding as the day continues. king county officials say some areas could experience deep and fast flood water. low pressure will cross the south through tuesday morning and deliver 1" rain totals in some areas. expect much warmer temperatures for the rest of the week with

a witness said the twister was bearing down on her and her pets but ended up missing her house. the storm hit during school hours and school officials in weston said their tornado preparedness drills paid off. in some parts of the state the damage was severe but so far only minor injuries have been reported. columbia police are looking for two car thieves who crashed a stolen car and shot at a man in north columbia. police say a toyota camry was reported stolen monday after the owner left the keys in the ignition before going to work. a few hours later, police say the owner's son confronted the thieves after he spotted the car near farrow road. they then reportedly ran the car off the road and crashed into a neighborhood sign. the son reported that at least one of the thieves shot at him while he tried to run after them. police are asking anyone with information to call 1-888-crime-sc. more than five months after a columbia man was murdered-- his family is now increasing the reward for help in solving the case. on september 8th, police found

if you've visited before, you know the main branch has a floor dedicated to helping the community advance in their careers. and part of that renovation is nearly complete. our michal higdon is live there this morning giving you a first look at what you can expect to see. the renovations on the 3rd floor of the main libary are more than just new furniture, bookshelves, and new rooms. this will be a revamped office dedicated to career services for the community -- appropriately called the new career, business and research center.

well. the flames broke out monday night in frio county-- about 55 miles southwest of san antonio. reports say something exploded-- which may have caused the fire. firefighters have not yet confirmed an official cause. so far, there haven't been any reports of injuries. crews from the national weather service will be out in florida today to survey some damage after suspected tornadoes touched down along the state's pandhandle. officials say one of the apparent twisters swept through the area north of pensacola. at least 10 homes were reportedly destroyed, but no injuries were reported. the tornadoes were part of a large winter storm system causing snow, sleet, strong winds and rain. parts of central louisiana are working to recover this morning after a severe storm blew through parts of the state- causing damage to trees and power lines. in one area- a strong wind gust ripped the roof off a car and sent it flying into a restaurant. the national weather service hasn't yet reported, it's unclear how serious they are.

sending threatening messages to their phones following a dispute, and told a school resource officer. robinson was later confronted by the officer in the school's parking lot. deputies found a gun in the investigators say a midlands restaurant owner may have shot and killed a man because he was involved with his wife. it happened sunday night at a park-and-ride location off of highway 378 in lexington county. warrants from lexington police state the victim was in the back seat of a pickup truck with greg leon's wife when leon fired several shots into the vehicle. she was not injured. leon had previously been linked to the federal indictment against former lexington county sheriff james metts...and received one year probation. he's now charged with murder. over the past several years, you've likely noticed some construction and improvements happening at the main richland county library on assembly street. and there's good news -- the first part of those renovations are almost complete. and our michal higdon is live there this morning with an exclusive sneak peek at what's

-- michal? i am on the third floor of the library -- which is set to open to the public by the end of february. and take a look at how different it looks! everything is new -- from new heating and air systems to new bookshelves and furniture. this is all thanks to a bond referendum that richland county voters approved several years ago. it allowed 15 million dollars to go toward this renovation at the main richland library branch. this 3rd floor of the branch will also be used for career advancement services. you'll see more spaces with computers, more seating, and even a coaching suite where practice interviews can be conducted. library leaders say these upgrades were requested by the community -- and everyone is excited to start using the new space. "really great because, you know, we've been talking about this like you said for many years -- so to see the realization of it is very exciting. our staff is

others injured in a gas explosion at a residential building in russia. it happened in a city about 160 miles northeast of moscow. drone footage from russia's emergency ministry shows emergency workers at the scene in the aftermath searching through debris. one section of the five- story building came crashing down in the blast. a criminal case has been opened into the circumstances of the explosion. the planned parenthood office in colorado which was the scene of a mass shooting and police standoff in november, is now back open. some repairs are still being made and bullet holes are still visible. planned parenthood organizers say that immediately after the shooting, they vowed to open the offices again as soon as possible. officials say new security measures are in place. the white house says president obama will make his first visit to vietnam in may.

russia is denying accusations that it is responsible for attacking hospitals and schools in northern syria that left 50 civilians dead on monday. this statement just coming in this morning from president vladmir putin's spokesman -- who says there's no proof that russia is behind the attack. syrian officials reported missle attacks on at least five medical facilities and two schools there. the united nations say targeting such facilities amount to war crimes. the strikes came days after world powers - including russia - agreed to

aiken. john kasich will start his day in greenville before coming to the midlands. he's holding a town hall with lexington county voters at murray's neighborhood bar and grill in cayce. a giant in the civil rights movement is in town to campaign for hillary clinton. vernon jordan, who served as an influential advisor to president bill clinton, will meet with small business owners today to encourage them to vote for hillary. jordan says hillary clinton is the most qualified and most prepared to lead our nation. jordan says he respects other civil rights leaders who have come out in support of sanders but encourages all voters to study the issues and then vote your conscience. over at usc- the nation's top journalists will gather for a presidential primary panel. nbc's craig melvin will be among the media members at the event. dean charles bierbauer of usc's college of information and communications will be the moderator. the event is free and open to the public and is tonight at 7:30. it will be held in room 231 of the williams-brice building at greene and pickens streets.

the naacp may call for civil disobedience over the water crisis in flint, michigan. the association's president, cornell brooks, has given michigan's embattled governor 30 days to come up with a timeline for fixing flint's water problems. brooks also says he wants governor rick snyder to say how much the repairs will cost. flint's drinking water has continued to have elevated levels of lead. the naacp says more would be done to fix the water problems if flint as a city was wealthier. crews from the national weather service will be out in florida today to survey some damage after suspected tornadoes touched down along the state's pandhandle. officials say one of the apparent twisters swept through the area north of pensacola. at least 10 homes were reportedly destroyed, but no injuries were reported.

some brand new poll numbers just released by nbc news and "survey monkey" this morning. 56-percent of republican voters now believe donald trump will be the party's nominee. that's a 14-percent increase from last week's although he also still leads among white evangelicals, trump's margin over challenger ted cruz has shrunk from 20-points to just 9-points. nbc news finds trump leads the gop field with 38 percent support, followed by texas sen. ted cruz with 18 percent support. florida sen. marco rubio falls third with 14 support followed by ben carson holding at 8- percent support. ohio gov. john kasich rises to a two-month
