presidential candidates will continue their whirlwind tour of the state today...ahead of this weekend's republican primary. but with only three days to go...still no word from governor nikki haley on who she supports in the race. at a tuesday news conference, the governor said she knows her decision could come soon...but she's still unsure who she believes best understands the challenges our state is facing. she did however make it clear that she would not be endorsing the current frontrunner -- donald trump.

people in south carolina are doing, which is, i watch the debate. i'm trying to go through all the situations, i'm looking at all the candidates who are there, and trying to figure out who that person would be. so no, i'm not at a point yet." the governor said at the end of the day -- the republican party needs "a fighter." in 2012 -- haley endorsed former massachusetts governor mitt romney ahead of the south carolina primary. some top watchers of the campaign say a haley endorsement could go a long way in south carolina. last night -- the university of south carolina hosted a panel of national journalists to talk about the upcoming presidental primaries and the influence the governor could have. our chad mills was there. "she would bring a lot of energy to the ticket. people may not vote for the president, like you guys were saying, because of her, but she could juice up a ticket and really bring energy." "it is striking that the election may come and go without an endorsement from the governor in the state that usually is the decider.

your governor." the journalists also talked about donald trump and told the crowd they do belive that he has a chance to win the nomination, especially after surviving a series of gaffes from last fall up until recently. ohio governor john kasich was back in the midlands -- after taking a break to campaign in michigan. kasich held a town hall meeting in cayce last night. a new cnn poll shows kasich could be in trouble in the palmetto state. he's currently in sixth place with only 4 percent of the vote. at last night's town hall, kasich pledged to keep his campaign positive. "we all plug together. and i'm not going to disappear. i'm not going to go in some bubble somewhere and not be available for people. because i intend to travel the states to tell each of the states how the other states are doing well to solve problems, and fix things, and raise all of us up." the same cnn poll shows donald trump ahead by 16 points. cruz comes in second and rubio in third.

other two candidates polling ahead of kasich. texas senator, ted cruz says the death of supreme court justice antonin scalia makes his campaign an urgent one. cruz spoke exclusively with wis tuesday. he says rights like religious freedom and second amendment rights could be in danger depending on who takes scalia's place on the supreme court. sot ted cruz 00:15:42 this vacancy, i knew justice scalia for 20 years. he was a lion of the law. the court hangs in the balance. and i think justice scalia's death really underscores the steaks out of this election. the people of south carolina are asking "who can i trust to make supreme court nominees? republicans have so many times gotten it wrong." and they get it wrong because they're not willing to spend of the political capital, to nominate and confirm approve and conservative. i have spent my entire adult life fighting to defend the constitution and the bill of rights. and part of the reason conservatives are uniting behind my campaign is because they know , they know , that every nominee on the court that i will appoint will be a principled

"we have got to achieve the day when young black males and women can walk the streets without worrying about being harassed by a police officer." "think of him as a protestor,as part of the

also the civil rights movement and he's not try to buy our vote, he's telling you to keep an open mind." sanders also touched on topics of gun violence, climate change and providing free college tuition at public universities. remember -- we've got complete coverage of the south carolina primaries online at wistv dot com. click the decision 2016 tab at the city of columbia is making a big change in the way it manages water and sewer fees. for nearly two decades the city has moved millions of dollars out of the city's water and sewer systems to pay for other services. the controversial practice led to a lawsuit. the justices did not ban the practice but the court did warn-- the revenues should not be treated as a "slush fund." in a 5 to 0 vote tuesday, council decided to stop all transfers on june 30th. the decision also commits the city to maintain or increase funding for

in the state house today--senators say they're planning to dive into a big debate on roads. senate pro tem hugh leatherman said senators will move up their by meeting by two hours today... and the debate could last well into the evening. discussions on a plan to fix roads and bridges have stalled since the new session began in early january. senators are also working on a special honor for the victims of the charleston church shootings. the senate judiciary committee unanimously approved a resolution tuesday declaring june 17th as "mother emanuel nine day" the resolution also encourages south carolinians to reflect on race relations on the one- year anniversary of the shooting in charleston that killed nine people. the resolution was approved by the house last month. coming up... after being blown out over the weekend, the gamecock men's looked to get back on track last night against missouri. but the sec's last ranked team proved to be a tougher test than gamecock fans hoped for. rick henry has the highlights in

the palmetto state. we have everything you need to know to prepare for the primaries at wistv.com. breaking in the alert center this morning... apple's ceo tim cook says his company will fight a judges order to help the fbi unlock an iphone owned by one of the attackers responsible in the san bernardino attacks. in a statement released this morning -- apple's ceo, argued that such a move would undermine encryption, by creating a backdoor that could potentially be used on other future devices. the judge's ruling requires apple to disable a feature that wipes the phone's data after 10 incorrect password attempts allowing the fbi to try millions of password combinations without threatening data. the phone was owned by syed farook, one of the san bernardino attackers. the camden man charged with shooting and killing a 17 year old who he says was

truck will be on bond court today. jimmy methe is charged with voluntary manslaughter. methe says saturday morning he saw 17 year old brandon spencer and another unnamed person breaking into his truck. he then shot at them, killing spencer. investigators say because they were attempting to run away when he fired, it did not qualify as self defense under state law. columbia city and richland school district one leaders are coming together today to stress the importance of reading readiness in the classroom. it's part of the "together we can read" initiative. our michal higdon is live in the newsroom with more on the group the program is targeting. today's kickoff is the 8th year that the city and richland one have partnered to show 3rd graders, the importance of reading and literacy for success. the idea behind "together we can read" is to engage students and connect them with community leaders who read to each classroom. i spoke with ida thompson with richland school district one. she says the program specifically targets 3rd graders who are at the pivotal age where adequate reading skills must be obtained before

grades. it's a reason state legislators passed the "read to succeed" bill a couple of years ago. beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, if a child can't read by the end of third grade, they will be held back for intensive help. "reading is that gateway. it opens the doors to everything. whether you're reading for information, or reading for fun, or reading for a personal interest that you may have. there's nothing in our lives where we can't apply the things at the foundation of a program like this." what's neat about this initiative is they try to choose a book that has a connection to the palmetto state -- and the one city leaders picked this year was written by a student in the lowcountry. i'll have more details on that coming up in the next half hour. live in the newsroom, michal higdon, wis news 10. richland one is rolling out a new process for families to enroll in its pre- kindergarten programs.

supporters in a face-off over graing rights on federal land in nevada. bundy was arrested in oregon last week-- where he flew to support his sons in a separate standoff at a wildlife refuge. the case against an alleged isis supporter is going to trial in a phoenix court. abdul malik abdul kareem is accused of providing material support to isis. officials are connecting him to a thwarted terrorist plot in texas last year. two other men-- ruled his alleged co-conspirators-- were killed in a gun battle with police. police say those suspects watched extremist videos with abdul kareem and conspired to commit terror attacks. opening statements in abdul kareem's case are expected to start tomorrow. a special tribute has been made to the late supreme court justice antonin scalia. in a court tradition dating back to the 19th century, black wool has been draped over the late judge's courtroom chair, the court bench and the door leading into the marble courtroom. scalia sat to the right of chief justice john roberts-- which is the seat given to the senior justice. scalia died saturday at the age

the program is targeting. today's kickoff is the 8th year that the city and richland one have partnered to show 3rd graders, the importance of reading and literacy for success. the idea behind "together we can read" is to engage students and connect them with community leaders who read to each classroom. i spoke with ida thompson with richland school district one. she says the program specifically targets 3rd graders who are at the pivotal age where adequate reading skills must be obtained before they are moved on to higher grades. it's a reason state legislators passed the "read to succeed" bill a couple of years ago. beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, if a child can't read by the end of third grade, they will be held back for intensive help. "reading is that gateway. it opens the doors to everything. whether you're reading for information, or reading for fun, or reading for a personal interest that you may have. there's nothing in our lives where we can't apply the things at the foundation of a program like this." what's neat about this initiative is they try to choose a book that has a connection to the palmetto

boeing is celebrating its nearly five-year establishment in south carolina with a big milestone. hundreds gathered as the 100th 787 dreamliner built at the company's north charleston facility rolled out for delivery to american airlines. the dreamliner is used for long distance travel overseas. the plane has tall ceilings and bigger windows than most planes. other highlights include larger storage space for luggage. boeing has also made a big donation to help restore a historic building at allen university in columbia. the company gave the university 100-thousand dollars to help pay for the chappelle auditorium. it's a site of historic speeches by african- americans... dr. martin luther king, jr. and muhammad ali. boeing made the donation in honor of the late reverend clementa pinckney -- he was a major advocate for restoring the building. construction should be complete later this year. kershaw county deputies say an undercover operation led to the arrest of a man who has a lengthy criminal history involving drugs.

top stories this morning.. the camden man charged with shooting and killing a 17 year old who he says was stealing from his truck will be on bond court today. jimmy methe is charged with voluntary manslaughter. methe says saturday morning he saw 17 year old brandon spencer and another unnamed person breaking into his truck. he then shot at them, killing spencer. investigators say because they were attempting to run away when methe fired, the case does not qualify as self-defense under state law. apple's ceo says the company will fight a judge's order to help the fbi unlock an iphone owned by syed farook, one of the san bernardino attackers. the judge's ruling requires apple to disable a feature that wipes the phone's data after 10 incorrect password attempts allowing the fbi to try millions of password
