entrusted would deliver ever-lasting harm to our young people, our babies. leon: troubling crimes against children. some within the walls of an elementary school. tonight, to protect children as disturbing new details surface. alison: and deonte carraway is accused of making child porn. police have identified seven victims. and now the principal is on leave. accused of knowing about concerns and doing nothing about it. leon: our jay korp has the latest developments on this. really troubling story, jay. jay: yeah, leon. this community and its leaders are demanding answers. especially in light of some fresh allegations in a lawsuit today that came out claiming that people were aware of the suspect's behavior. and did nothing. prince george's county leaders came together for the first time wednesday night to address the horrifying allegations leveled a

>> i like many of you were shocked, appalled, disgusted. and disheartened by the allegations that a former prince george's county public school employee harmed students. and especially vulnerable children. jay: police alleged the 22-year-old sexually abused at least seven students. at sylvania woods elementary in glen arden while working as a teaching assistant the past two school years. authorities say carraway also used his cell phone. to videotape children engaging in sex acts with him and with other students. >> our safe haven is violated, and gon so in such a vile and painful way. we are deeply disturbed. jay: additional explosive allegations surfaced wednesday when a lawsuit against the the school system and the principal was filed on behalf of an alleged 9-year-old victim. the suit claims filming took place openly in the school building during school hours including the auditorium. bathroom and other locations. the suit contends this

due to the complete absence of any supervision and oversight of his conduct. the lawsuit also alleges the parents and teachers raised issues about carraway's predator nature to the principal but nothing was done. that principal has now been placed on leave. >> if our employees didn't do what they were supposed to do they should be held accountable for that. beyond i can't really say anything more. jay: school leaders say a task force will be formed to take a look at all policies and procedures in regard to student safety. so that something like this never happens again. and to understand how this could have possibly happened in the first place. meanwhile, investigators say if anyone aided this suspect in any way, shape or form, they can also face prosecution. live in prince george's county, jay korff, abc 7 news. leon: thank you, jay. donte carraway's family issued a statement expressing their extreme shock and deepest sorrow quoting our prayers and thoughts are with the innocent victims and the

during this trying time. we ask that the media takes into account that we are also victims of what has transpired. and respect our privacy as we continue to cope with this new reality. the family also says it's cooperating with law enforcement. alison? alison: leon, two maryland deputies dead. after a shootout at a panera bread. it all happened in harford county, maryland, this afternoon. the suspect was also killed. jonathan with the developments on this story. jonathan: it was a heart-breaking and horrifying 15 minutes at a shopping center in abingdon. which is two hours north of baltimore. police say that 67-year-old david evans shot two deputies. the first deputy was shot at close range in the head. the second deputy also shot but he also had fired back which killed evans. the names of those two deputies have not yet been released. but clearly this is a difficult loss not just for the force but for the entire state. >> one of our deputies was a

to 10 degrees. and will only make it to around 30 by afternoon. talking about a strong cold front. late friday night, early saturday. i'll give you the timing. what it means for your valentine's weekend coming up in just a few minutes. leon? leon: thank you, steve. an infant found dead at a home in northwest. at the time, six children under the age of 10 were living there. now, police are trying to figure out if an adult was there at all. to take care of them. richard reed has been talking with neighbors and he's live with us. and he has the latest on this investigation happening right now. very troubling situation here, rich. >> leon, this is such a poignant scene. we want to take you closer here. you can see there is a skateboard. a stroller. in the front yard here. everyone in this neighborhood is devastated and wants to know what happened to this infant. a skateboard, a butterfly decoration. a stroller. >> i was just in disbelief. in shock. >> signs that six children lived here, including a 7 month

found unresponsive by an older sibling wednesday morning. and no adult at home. >> just a terrible, unfortunate situation. and we're all devastated to say the least. >> police arrived at this van buren street home shortly after that sibling called 911. e.m.s. transferred him to children's hospital where he was pronounced dead. >> i'm just overwhelmed. i can't believe it. >> stunned neighbors say the six children from 7 months to 10 years old were usually in the care of their grandmother. >> she's very hands on with the children. especially the newborns. because she really helps out with the kids. >> it's also unclear where the children's mother was. >> i really don't know. because like i said, most i've seen is in the summertime. outside playing and things. >> like normal, fun loving kids in the family. and it's just a horrible, tragic incident. >> many asking the same question. where were the adults?

your kids. >> and our prayers are definitely keeping the children and the family. >> and there's another look at that butterfly. now, child protective services and m.p.d. are not comment wlg they have been here before. we are told the mother and grandmother have been questioned by police. those five surviving children are now in the custody of child protective services. it will be up to the medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death. of that infant. live in northwest washington. richard reeve, abc 7 news. alison: rich, thank you a 19-year-old man stabbed to death in springfield this afternoon. it happened in the 7400 block lane. ro the victim is shaky ezekiel flip. there's no word on a motive and they are searching for two suspects. leon: a push to keep drunk drivers off the road.

officer was on enforcement detail and killed. a week before his death, the officer had complained about weak d.u.i. laws in maryland. tonight, his name is on a law to push for greater use of interlock devices. studies show these devices are cheap and they've been created with stopping more than 12 million drunk drivers across the country. alison: campaign news now. and the g.o.p. field is getting smaller. as donald trump rides high on a new hampshire victory. carly fiorina is throwing in the towel. she now announced on nays book that she is suspending her bid for the white house. fiorina finished seventh in new hampshire. new jersey governor chris christie also suspended his campaign. and on the other side, bernie sanders celebrating a big primary victory over hillary clinton. and tomorrow night, the two will go head to head in a debate in milwaukee. our chief political correspondent will give us live coverage throughout the day tomorrow and have highlights on abc 7 new

leon. leon: seven on your side tonight with a consumer alert. the f.a.a. has issued a warning about lithium batteries onboard airplanes. the warning says the batteries can cause catastrophic fires and could bring down a plain. -- plane. batteries used in cell phones, laptops and cameras can overheat and ig knit. the ntsb recommends that batteries be carried separately from other flammable items. and that the number of them be restricted. alison: and a lawmaker now trying to make sure your next airplane seat isn't smaller. representative steve cohen of tennessee is pushing a new law establishing minimum standards for plane seats. cohen says this is not about comfort but about safety. in case of an evacuation. however, opponents argue more seats help lower fares. leon: finally somebody on our side. all right. still ahead on abc 7 news, at 11:00. >> i am in a warehouse

and cold. cold air. just in time for the upcoming weekend. a cold front, a strong cold front moves through late friday into the day on saturday. some saw a few showers earlier this evening and didn't amount to a whole lot. mainly across the bay right now. moving across the delmarva and nothing that is going to accumulate and skies are actually going to clear out nicely. temperatures for tonight will fall to 17 to 23 degrees. don't focus so much on these actual temperatures. but the wind chills. what it's going to feel like early tomorrow morning. single digits. and lower teens. so even though waking up tomorrow in bethesda and college park and gaithersburg, around 19 to 21 degrees. the same at woodbridge, it's going to feel much colder than that. here's our futurecast. projected wind chill factors. 5:00 tomorrow evening. walking back on the bus stop. walking home from school and looking at feels like temperatures in the teens. and then a cold, cold day on friday. with feels like temperatures from morning, noon, to night. only in the teens. and it only gets colder after
