jennifer: we have news just in from law enforcement sources that the weapon at the center of all of this appears to not be a gun. we have learned from the law enforcement sources that the weapon that this man pulled out was an air soft type of weapon. like a b.b. gun. it looks like the real deal. when that is pulled out, the police officers respond. just about an hour and a half ago we had a press conference. just about a block away with the united states capitol police chief. here is what he says happened. >> during routine administrative screening the individual drew what appeared to be a weapon and pointed it at officers. an officer fire and struck the suspect. who was subsequently tweeted by medical personnel. the suspect was taken into custody. transported to the hospital for treatment. gen i don't know if w

have a technical difficulty. i am not hearing the sound. this happened at 2:30 this afternoon. the united states capitol placed on lockdown. the white house was placed on lockdown. a suspect who we confirmed through the sources is larry dawson walked into the visitor center here at the united states capitol complex pulled out the gun, the officers fired. he was taken to the hospital. taken to surgery. we don't know the nature of his injuries if they are grave, critical or how he is doing at this time. this place was crawling with tourists. people off on vacation. they had to do a lockdown. they had to usher people into different rooms. we spoke with many of the tourists a number of them children. and parents and the teachers about what that was like.

with guns to shove us over to one side so they could run up. jennifer: we are having some technical difficulty out here. so i can't hear what is being relayed at the station. but we will send things to diane cho who is at the botanic gardens at the scene of what they believe is the suspect's car. diane: well, je with been at this location here for about an hour now. near the u.s. bow tan tick gardens. this is what the scene looked like when we first arrived with the capitol police officers surrounding a silver dodge pickup truck parked nearby. they confirmed they located the vehicle on the u.s. capitol grounds but they did not specify where it was found or provide a description. we could see a tennessee dealer tag on the truck. authorities say the suspect is from tennessee. i asked if the officers when we got here if he could confirm it was related to the shooting at the capitol. he said he could not do that for us. they are not letting the public get c

chris: maureen, abc news reported the man involved in the incident today is larry dawson of tennessee. he was taken to the washington hospital center while under police escort. he is being reported as a man who is known to capitol police. the i-team did some digging and we found this video. take a listen. now this is from the last october where a larry dawson after this hearing was charged with unlawful contact and assault of a police officer after an outburst in the u.s. house chamber. now in the video, the wrong video you had seen. they are having technical difficulties. in the video you can see the man brought the session to a stop as it yell shed a prophet of god. the person -- yelled he is a prophet of god. the person leading the session had him removed and it's likely at that point dawson had violence incident with the police officer that had him removed and that led to assault charges. that day he was arraig
