presidential candidates are getting ready to square off in a debate in new york city. hillary clinton, maintaining a double-digit lead over bernie sanders in the state, despite both candidates drawing large crowds at recent rallies. on the republican side, donald trump urges supporters to fight against what he called a "rigged " system. trump: the people that shouldn't have this power took all the power away from the voters. jummy: republicans in colorado are even facing death trumps -- death threats from some trump fans over how convention delegates are being assigned. ntshington wizards' preside ernie grunfeld is holding a press conference after announcing the firing of head coach randy wittman, who had been the coach since january, 2012. the wizards changed their offensive philosophy this season and ar

to prevent a full closure in 2021. 68,000 cars cross that bridge every single day. new at noon, the second phase of repairs to the national cathedral officially underway. the cathedral suffered massive damage from that 2011 earthquake. phase one cost $10 million. phase two is expected to take more than a decade. the stonemasons working on the repairs say they are in for a lot of work. >> we are introducing some new technology to try and help these pieces performed better in an earthquake -- perform better in an earthquake. the reinforcement rods will insert into these holes, tie these many pieces together. they will work more cohesively as a whole, instead of independently, which is what caused them to fail before. 22my: the estimated cost -- million dollars. tomorrow, a crane will begin taking damaged stone off of the building. newly

will be installed. rescue crews are working to free people believed to be trapped after a powerful earthquake in japan. this one struck the southern part of the country, about 74 miles northeast of the sendai nuclear plant. an aftershock measuring 5.7 struck later. police have reports of a number of collapsed houses and people possibly trapped inside. at least 45 people injured, five of them seriously. new developments on the war on terror. the european union has approved a new security plan to track airline passenger information. the passenger name record log can be used to track foreign fighters traveling to and from a conflict area, like syria or iraq. the information will be shared with several countries, including the u.s. and canada. the pentagon is still trying to get answers this noon after this disturbing incident at sea.

jummy: 7 news on your side with a health alert about the zika virus. the cdc now confirms the virus causes a rare birth defect and other problems in the brain. the confirmation is a turning point in the fight against the virus, which is still spreading. the cdc says there has never been a mosquito borne virus that causes birth defects in humans. doctors in south carolina say a new device makes radiation therapy less invasive and more effective. it is a spiral medical device acid thatlylactic eventually dissolves in the body, leaving behind a tiny titanium clip which marks the

the nra and its campaign cash are what stands between us and gun reform. "every time i think about those kids... it gets me mad" chris van hollen met with nra lobbyists to craft a loophole that would let the nra skirt a new campaign finance law and block gun control. but democrat donna edwards said "no" to the nra loophole and stood up to the gun lobby. and she would ban assault weapons.
