are referring to as "the shooter," he will be before a grand jury tomorrow to answer questions about what went on in his home. landover hills, brad bell, abc7 news. alison: thank you. meanwhile a surprise guilty plea today in the deadly police involved shooting that forced changes for fairfax county police. former police officer adam torres pleaded guilty to charges that he shot john geer during a standoff in 2013. geer was unarmed. northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg covered this case from the beginning. how is geer's family reacting tonight? jeff: mixed reaction. john geer's father saying that the sentence is not harsh enough but he can accept the deal. john geer's mother vehemently opposes the agreement. the plea deal came together late yesterday afternoon. the attorney representing john geer's long-time partner saying she wanted to avoid a trial while defense attorneys for adam torres proposing the guilty plea of involuntary

manslaughter with a year in jail. prosecution saying it's not perfect but it is acceptable. >> not long after torres pleaded guilty the shooting and killing john geer, geer's father don was asked whether the justice was done. >> i will never feel justice is done. but that is just a personal feeling of a father. >> august 29, 2013, geer, 46 was angry over marital problems with his long-time partner mara harrington with the 13 and the 17-year-old daughters in the house geer who had been drinking was yelling and throwing furniture out of their springfield townhome. when harig called police -- harrington called police geer said, "tell them i'm waiting with this." pointing to a.r.-15 assault rifle. standoff ensued. after 45 minutes of improving negotiations with geer standing in the doorway under armed hands and arms up, adam torres fired one shot at geer's chest. killing him almost

of the 12-month sentence. live in fairfax, jeff goldberg, abc7 another local police department is a step closer to outfitting every officer with body cameras. the police department budget request includes funding for cameras for each of the 1,000 officers and the 50 members of the executive staff. the montgomery county council began reviewing this budget request this afternoon. leon: we have new information tonight on the disturbing case of the child pornography at a prince george's county public school. attorneys for the suspect council on american-islamic deonte carraway want key pieces of evidence thrown out. jonathan elias has a look at the argument. what is the angle here? jonathan: they want the case thrown out. this comes whether deonte carraway was capable of understanding his rights. the defense says that carraway has an i.q. of 63. meaning when he confessed he didn't understand his rights. in filings obtained by abc7, carraway's defense team says that means that his confession should just be tossed out. they also want evidence that was seized from the cell

phones to be off-limits. you may remember carraway from child pornography that was found on cell phones. they allege that he gave phones to children at judge sylvania woods elementary school and instructed them to take videotape of sex acts. carraway is accused of shooting some of the vdeo himself with more than 17 children now coming forward. carraway is facing more than a dozen criminal charges in this case. i should say dozens of criminals charges. if convicted he could face more than 100 years in prison. court date to rule on the filings has not been set. we're keeping a close eye on this case. alison: thank you. a man is in critical condition after a piece of a bulldozer that he was working on felon top of him. this is -- fell on top of him. this is in brandywine. we are working to get an update on his condition. he was rushed to the hospital.

"abc7 news at 6:00". leon: more than two years after john geer was shot and killed the police officer accused of pulling the trigger is pleaded guilty. maureen: adam torres is no longer on the court and today he offered an emotional apology. jeff goldberg has been following this from the beginning and has developments.

jeff: john geer's mother vehemently opposed the deal deal is far from perfect but it's acceptable. adam torres standing up and apologizing in court saying he is heart broken for john geer's two children around he is truly sorry for his actions. this deal was worked out late yesterday between the attorney for the geer's long-time partner harrington and the defense attorneys for adam torres. the deal completed late yesterday. this morning torres 33 years old pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter a sentence of one year in jail. august 29 of 2013, 46-year-old john geer had been drinking and was angry over marital problems with harrington. he was throwing furniture out of the springfield townhouse with their 13 and the 17-year-old daughters inside the home. later after police arrived a standoff lasted 45 minutes when adam torres fired one shot at john geer, killing him almost immediately. geer had his hands up and was not armed at the time that the
