correspondent scott thuman is here with what to look for tonight as the votes come in. scott? >> watch for the margins tonight. not just who wins a state but by how much. it's proportional for democrats. for republicans, it's 50% plus one. if you hit that mark both statewide and also in the individual congressional districts you could get all 95 delegates. scott: for the national front-runner the empire state could provide an epic boost. hillary clinton and donald trump are banking on it after a bumpy stretch. >> new york is a special place. >> i am so excited about both campaigning here in new york, voting here in new york. scott: for clinton it is about stopping the slide. she has lost the last seven states to bernie sanders. >> what do you say that she could wrap up the nomination

visitation is under way in hollywood, maryland, for a fallen prince george's firefighter. john ulmschneider was shot and killed while responding to a medical friday night. his brother-in-law spoke about ulmschneider's commitment a short time ago. >> often said that think of one person who they can he in the course of the day unage to sleep. maureen: ulmschneider's funeral is tomorrow afternoon. another firefighter injured in the shooting is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. leon? leon: a major effort to slow the typical d.c. summer spike in gunfire. mayor muriel bowser called on the law enforcement agencies from across the nation's capitol to come for preemptive action. >> we still have a memoal

a small plane flipped upside down near the bay bridge. the flames could be seen from the crash site half a mile east of the runway. the names are not released. maureen: another bad report card for metro. inspectors with the federal transit administration found metro lack what they call the most basic safety protections. they found nonworking fire extinguishers and blocked escape routes and called on the agency to fix the problem immediately. metro says it has been briefed by the f.t.a. >> up to metro and us to step up to the plate to start operating the system the way it should be done. >> metro general manager paul wiedefeld who testified in congress last week

maureen: baltimore is remembering freddie gray after a year after his controversial death. he died from a spinal cord injury april 19 last year seven days after being arrested on a weapons charge. the trial of the first officer charged in gray's death william porter ended in a mistrial. the trial for the other five officers are pending. as is porter's retrial. rally is planned in baltimore for april 25, marking the start of the protest over gray's death. former coworkers of judge merrick garland reminding the publicf

including his work after the oklahoma city bombing 21 years ago today. 168 people were killed in the attack on the murrah federal building. garland led the successful prosecutions of the bombers. timothy mcveigh and terry nichols. mcveigh was executed. nichols sentenced to life in prison. 15 members of the federal team sent a letter tuesday to top senate leaders supporting garland's supreme court nomination. >> i hope that the senate will do its job and give him a fair hearing so that everyone in the united states can see what a wonderful, honest, compassionates and fair justice merrick garland would be. maureen: garland met with nine republican senators so far. only two of those have called for the hearings. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says the next should name the justice to fill the late scalia's seat. leon: more isis fight
