this is news 6 at 4:00, getting results. i'm ginger gadsden. >> julie: i'm julie broughton. thank you for being with us. >> lisa: i'm lisa bell. we're getting new information and action from the sanford police department in light of the 6-year-old girl's accidental shooting death. her uncle now facing a judge for the first time. news 6's troy campbell is joining us outside the courthouse. what did he have to say to the judge today? >> reporter: it actually got pretty heated. the attorney arguing sanford police have no evidence the gun the little girl found in the living room under the couch was his. >> the police said he put the gun down there, and he said yes, i'd sit down and shut up >> reporter: the attorney says sanford police do not have proof williams owned the handgun the

evening and fired the fatal shot. >> i have no evidence that mr. williams had or ever told any police officer or anybody else that he ever at any time had possession of this gun. >> reporter: williams' attorney argued several people live inside the home and they could have placed the gun under the living room sofa. >> it wasn't found on him. he wasn't asked whether he put it there. he wasn't asked whether he ever had possession of it. i'm assuming they're claiming he had possession of it because it was found under a couch. >> reporter: williams also arrested in 2006 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and also drug trafficking. people inside the home, not calling 911 and instead driving the girl to the hospital where she died of a single shot to her shoulder. >> never indicated to anyone that he ever had possession of it and nobody saw him in possession of it. >> reporter: and williams' bond is now set at $20,000. we're also talking with the police chief in sanford. we're asking him how he plans to deal with the problem of illegal

the little boy is fighting for his life. it happened tuesday. news 6's reporter kirstin o'connor is following the story. the fence near the accident site has been repaired. but you're finding out that there may be other holes that need to be fixed here? >> reporter: yeah, ginger. we found out about this fence -- you can see it's got a lot of damage -- by calling 311 ourselves, the orange county public works number you're supposed to call when you find a hole. we made the phone call. they said this is an area they've had a lot of problems with high schoolers cutting through the gate to try to make a shortcut to the high school. as parents and teachers from riverside elementary school cope with the tragic accident that nearly took the life of a student -- >> if your child is showing signs of sadness or asking a lot of questions, please know we have trained staff at the school

>> reporter: the investigators are there for a second day in a row. a group of kids climbed under a fence to take a shortcut. several gaps were repaired but it's not the only dangerous shortcut to school. >> this takes maybe 5, 10 minutes off the walk. >> reporter: shaun oliver says kids in his neighborhood regularly cut through the no trespassing zone. he says many of them are heading to wekiva high school or nearby middle school. >> it's not supposed to be any trespassing back here, but they go this way and along the backside to the houses there. >> reporter: but now he says after the tragic accident, neighbors are paying attention. >> or at least repair the fence, maybe put a fence up around the perimeter or something. >> reporter: one of the big questions with this fence and the fencing around riverside elementary school canal where the accident happened is who do

shorter amount of time to buy clothes and supplies without paying sales tax. another change, the tax holiday will be limited to clothes that cost $60 or less. the year before it excluded apparel over $100. the house had wanted a 10-day tax holiday after the budget discussion, they decided to scale back the money they set aside for the tax cut. >> lisa: you know, i haven't been following that debate too closely, but i find it a little annoying because i love the sales tax holiday. >> ginger: we all do. >> lisa: we've been talking about so many tax cuts for so many different things. it's something families really benefit from. >> ginger: three days a week is not enough. >> lisa: it's not enough because people are working. and the stores are spread out and it's crowded.

birthday. >> lisa: a man is in the hospital tonight after a motorcycle he was working on exploded. it happened at orlando speed world on east colonial drive and bithlo last night. news 6 reporter johnny fernandez has more on the investigation into how this happened. >> reporter: that man was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious burns, after the motorcycle exploded here at orlando speed world. deputies are calling this an industrial accident. the clean-up process continued late into the overnight hours as workers workers workers towed away the motorcycle out of the track. the explosion happened yesterday as a man was working on his bike at 10:30. this was posted after the incident on speed world's facebook page. deputies say the explosion may be related to nitrous oxide being put in the bike, a gas used to make the engines run faster. while the gas is not flammable,

too hot. last night it had a test at the track. it gives people the opportunity to test out their vehicles and have practice races. despite a hectic night, a spokesperson for speed world says things here will remain normal. i spoke with participants of this weekend's racing event. as of right now, they tell me the events will continue as planned. in bithlo, johnny fernandez, news 6. >> ginger: just in, new recommendations on how to handle homelessness in central florida. a controversy that has volusia county and daytona beach city leaders against each other. talks have been going on for weeks, all after dozens of homeless people started camping out in front of a county building. they were later moved to a temporary shelter until the city and county could coming up with plans for a permanent solution. possibly solutions include we're hearing designating someone to help with homelessness services and restructuring its membership. news 6's loren korn is sifting

roads. >> lisa: new information in the search for a plane that vanished almost two years ago. >> ginger: the wreckage has been found off the coast of mozambique. >> lisa: these are the new images of the debris found. a potential clue for crash investigators looking into the mysterious disappearance of that airliner. it appears to be that of a boeing 777, the same type of aircraft as the missing plane. the debris appears to be a part of the plane's horizontal stabilizer. that's a piece of the tail that helps control the motion of the plane's nose. the disappearance of the flight is considered one of the world's biggest aviation mysteries. the plane vanished from radar on march 8th, 2014. it was en route to beijing with 239 people on board. >> ginger: now to a scam alert in port orange. the city is alerting consumers of a phone scam that targets port orange water customers. the city says multiple people have reported someone calling

past due, threatening to cut off their water if the bill is not paid. if you get this call, you're told to ignore it. if you have any questions about the bill, call the city. >> julie: tonight, new national attention in the search for a missing newborn in orlando. the national center for missing and exploited children put out an e-mail calling on the public to come forward with information on baby willow. she disappeared last month after police say susan richardson gave birth at the willow bend apartments on silver star road. richardson won't tell investigators what happened to the baby. police searched the area but they have found nothing. richardson remains in the orange county jail on neglect charges. >> lisa: a news 6 investigation now trending on clickorlando.com. a family's dog killed at a boarding facility. >> ginger: we're getting answers and results about what happened. >> julie: news 6's eric sandoval joins us. they say the facility lied to

>> reporter: the people called the sheriff's office and all they could do was fine the dog boarding facility $100 because pets are considered property in the state of florida. the dog's family tells us they understand accidents happened but they say they were lied to about what happened to molly. and they wanted us to get results. >> i'm very mad at her. she killed my dog. >> reporter: the couple say the last time they saw their 7-year-old dog molly alive was last fall. it was the day they dropped her and the other dog off at paws and claws boarding facility in merritt island. when they returned from their two-week trip overseas, they were shocked to find out molly died. >> she said molly was dead. >> reporter: she claims molly died of a brain aneurysm. the couple say they were stunned because molly seemed to be in perfect health.

emergency contact for the dogs. they say she also ordered consent. wrong. so they got ahold of the veterinarian molly was taken to misinformed. >> molly had been attacked by seven dogs and had been mauled to death. she went to say they could not even find her trachea when they got there. >> reporter: they brought what they found to the owner and she denied it. if kelly was sitting right here right now, what would you say to her? >> i would say you should be ashamed of yourself. we put our dog in their care. >> reporter: we went there to get results for the family. this time they opened up about what really happened. the owners say you lied to them. is that true? >> no. did i tell them that another dog broke the dog's trachea? no. >> reporter: don't you think

the dog's owners if the dog died in your care? >> i wanted to tell them what was easiest about how i would take the news. >> reporter: we pressed her about the story, if other dog owners new what happened and if it's happened before or since. >> don't portray me as a bad person. >> reporter: you lied to these people. >> it came out when -- excuse me. please. get out of my face. i don't want you to in my business. this is my business. please go. >> reporter: so you have nothing else to say to these people? no. >> reporter: and to this day, she has nothing to say to this family. molly's family has met with an attorney to discuss a possible lawsuit against the company and because of our story, they have a really good case. they're not looking to get rich off this. their main message is they don't want this happening to another family and having to go through this emotional ordeal. >> ginger: of course. that's a family member you're talking about. >> julie: i can't imagine what
