the suspect was working on a car and fired first but it is unclear who fired the fatal shot. the suspect later died at the hospital and no officers were injured. the activity had a lot of residents on edge. >> to determine why he was in south carolina. >> it was scary more or less. we locked all of our doors to make sure there was, like, nobody escaped or anything since we are in the middle. we have been fine. >> reporter: his identity and details of the investigation are expected to be released tomorrow morning. the richland county sheriffs are taking the lead on the case. i reached out to the houston police department and am waiting to hear back. we will keep you updated online and on air. >> thank you. a boulevard is shut down both ways.

reports of somebody in the water. details are limited at this time. we have a crew on the scene. we will bring you more information as it becomes available. >> reporter: police are looking for the second suspect involved in an armed robbery at next up barber shop. last friday two armed masked gunman entered demanding cash from everybody in there. the place was filled with people however a customer pulled out a up with start -- weapon and started shooting, the barber pulled out a weapon and started shooting as well. one gunman was shot and the other got away. >> kids were in here, screaming and crying. stuff like that.

i was waiting for them to do something wrong, slip. you know. >> the identity of the suspect is expected to be revealed tomorrow. no charges will be filed against the customer or the barber who fired the shots. concealed weapons, december was the busiest month for gun sales. the fbi says 50,000 south carolinians bought guns or concealed weapons. the president indicated he would seek to tighten gun control measures this year. some people's requests are refused and some people buy more than one gun. 4 months since the flood damaged pierce creek church road in richland county, it appears there is progress being made to fix it. news 19's mary sturgill has more.

but not everybody thinks it is a good idea. >> the bill would create new school protection officers to add another layer of protection to help school resource officers. school protection officers would be teachers or any school employees who go through a training program. they could carry guns if they had concealed weapons permits. >> the crooks have guns so we have to have them too so i think it is a good idea. i hope it passes. >> reporter: but he worries about having guns in schools. >> at the end of the day or in between classes teacher can lay their pistol down anywhere, in their drawer, kids could get a hold of it. anything could go wrong like that. k-12, kids are curious. >> reporter: he introduced a similar bill in 2012 that would have allowed teachers to carry on campus if they wanted.
