be in the midlands t good afternoon. i'm and for darci strickland. a cloudy start to the weekend in the midlands. but in the upstate, snow is falling. we begin with a quick look at the forecast with meteorologist efren afante. >> it has been a cold and chilly start in many parts of the midlands. right now temperatures are only 39 in new very. winnsboro, 36. columbia and lexington, 42. a little warmer in orangeburg at 49. a lot of snow and sleet mixed in. in the upstate into south of charlotte. but for us, a lot of clearing skies. and these clearing skies will make their way to the midlands and the next few hours.

a lot of sunshine. clear skies tonight. it will be cold. down to 32 degrees. tomorrow it will be windy out of the northwest. even with sunshine, it will still be chili. a high of 47. we will look at the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. the orangeburg county sheriff's office this afternoon is looking for a person of interest after an suv was stolen from an " -- local auto sales business. investigators say somebody stole it a 25 chevrolet trailblazer. sales. employees say last saturday suv back. they say the man arrived in a blue car and the woman drove it away. this is a picture of the person they are looking for. if you know who this is, you are supposed to call crime stoppers. the richland county sheriff's department now has an app. alerts

wanted suspects, deadbeat parents, and crime mapping. you can also submit a tip through the app. the sheriff says the app is one of the best ways for the department to reach the community quickly. in the upstate, officials are trying to figure out how yellow die ended up in the river. concentration of the die was discovered earlier this week at a renewable water treatment plant. the company says the water is not designed to remove die so the colored water is moving through the system. at the statehouse, new legislation at the statehouse will take the choice of state education superintendent out of the hands of voters. if approved, the measure would allow the governor to appoint a position. voters would have to approve the constitutional amendment. if they do, the last election for superintendent would be in 2018. after weeks of being in committees, state senators

house's built -- passed over to them last year. but no decision yet. the president pro tem told lawmakers to expect long days next week as they pick back up with talk next tuesday. in national news, investigators and columbus, ohio are trying to figure out what motivated a man to attack people evening in a diner last night. witnesses say the man walked in with a machete and started slashing customers. four people were hurt. one is in critical condition right now. after a brief chase, police shot and killed the suspect. police say quick observations by employees helped them track down the suspect. the world health organization says it could be -- it could be another year and a half before there are large-scale trials on a possible the. >> scene. meanwhile, the president says there is no intention by any country to pull out of the olympics of rio de janeiro over concerns about the mosquito-borne virus.

he is speaking to the south carolina chamber of commerce at a luncheon and then will go to orangeburg at 1:30 p.m. for a private event. marco rubio will hold a rally at the greenville downtown airport today. that event is open to the public. the doors open at 4:15 p.m. at this hour, jeb bush, ben carson, ted cruz and marco rubio are taking part at an event at bob jones university in greenville. this is cosponsored by the palmetto state project. it is being moderated by ag alan wilson. we will be streaming that on our website at wltx.com. pope francis embarking on a five-day visit to mexico. millions of people are expected to be in attendance when the holy father celebrates mass on the country's southern and northern borders. the streets of mexico city are bustling with last-minute preparations for his visit. stores are already selling his memorabilia.

let's talk about some weather. we've got some snow -- not here. >> not here. >> we do have winter weather as far as temperatures. we did not get any snow. the upstate -- a different ball of wax. for the last several hours, a lot of snow being reported from greenville all the way up to parts of south of charlotte. you can see on the radar, a lot of the precipitation coming through -- especially in the northern part of the midlands,

-- but the air was so dry at the surface that we did not get anything at all. right now the scope is clear. nothing falling in the midlands at all. no precipitation at all. it is still very cold. thirty-nine in newberry. thirty-seven in bishopville. where there has been more cloud coverage, it is cool. here in columbia, sitting at 42 degrees. out. northeast. giving us a windchill. feels like 39 degrees right now. you can see the satellite and radar -- we have this stationary boundary that has been hugging the central and southern parts of georgia. but behind it, a lot of clear skies. that will start getting into most if not all of the midlands by later on. by this afternoon, our model forecast shows most -- most parts of the area, -- will clear out. after sunset, we will have clear skies right into tomorrow morning. for highs today, we're looking at -- lower, to middle, to

it will be rather chilly outside. a high of 48 degrees late this afternoon. a lot of sunshine. wind are generally out of the west out of thought -- at five up to 10 miles per hour. tonight, clear skies and very cold. it is 32 degrees. the low will generally be in the upper 20s into the lower-30s. as we watch this moved out, a lot of clear skies in the deep south. an area of high pressure bringing in a lot of cold dry air. it will clear out the skies. clear skies tomorrow. but it will be windy. we're looking at windy conditions -- generally out of the northwest at 10 up to 15 -- gusting at 20 miles per hour. with the clear skies, it will be very cold as we get into valentine's day. in the morning, we're looking at lows in the upper teens, to the lower-20s. fortunately, the wind will not be as bad. we warm up to 39 degrees with the sunshine. then rain on president's day. up to 49 degrees. rain continuing tuesday. with a high of 56. i was teasing about it this

up with a new spin on chicken marcella that is perfect for two. it is clean your plate good. we put a couple of skinless boneless chicken breast with fake -- with some seasoned flour and sautied them with a mixture of vegetable oil and butter until they are golden. then we add a bit more better after we take them out, before tossing in some mushrooms and onions. after they are tender, we use chicken broth and a splash of marcella wind -- wine along with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. then the chicken goes back in. don't forget to put a lot of sauce on each piece. because that is the best part. and when you cut into this, get ready for one of the most tender and flavor packed dishes you have had in a long time.
