good wednesday morning, everybody. wisconsin's scott walker, fought off a major challenge from democrats and big labor, becoming the first u.s. governor to survive a recall. >> it was a sid win. 53% to 46%. exit polls showed voters like the way the governor got the state's economy back on track. wisconsin governor, scott walker, gets to keep his job. >> tonight, we tell wisconsin, we tell our country, and we tell people all across the globe, that voters really do want leaders who stand up and make the tough decisions. >> reporter: voters decided to stick with their republican governor, rather than his democratic opponent, milwaukee mayor, tom barrett, who despite his loss, was happy to see so many involved in this election. >> for those who care about this

state, which i love, please, please, please, remain engaged, remain involved, because we will continue to fight for justice and fairness in this city and this state. >> reporter: democrats and labor unions tried to oust walker after he pushed unions to balance state budget. conservatives rally behind him and point to the result. last year's deficit, a state record, has turned into a slight budget surplus. and that's all from cuts, no tax increases. the obama administration is downplaying suggestions that this race has implications for november's presidential election. >> in a race where one side is outspending the other by a ratio of at least 8-1, probably won't tell us much about a future race. >> reporr: mitt romney's campaign believes walker's win could help put wisconsin in play. but exit polls show wisconsin

voters still favor the president over the presumptive nominee by ten points. another problem for romney. it's been confirmed that investigators are looking into whether his private e-mail account has been hacked. the alleged hacker claims he was able to access an account by guessing the security question, what's your favorite pet? however, no e-mails or documents have been made public since the alleged hacking. and more election year politics. this time on capitol hill. republican lawmakers have blocked a democratic effort calling for equal pay in the workplace. not a single republican voted for the bill. appointed, most certainly democrats will use as a chapter in the so-called war on women. on top of that, democrats will continue to fight for passage of the bill, which republicans say will actually hurt small businesses. also, a dire warning from the congressional budget office about the growing federal debt.

the cbo says the deficits are not brought under control, t national debt will balloon to almost equal the size of the economy itself. and after a decade, it will swell to twice the size of the economy in 25 years. jury selection is expected to wrap up today in the jerry sandusky child sex abuse trial. and abc news has learned exclusive, new details about the first witness to take the stand against the former penn state football coach. here's abc's jim avila. >> reporter: jerry sandusky helped select nine members of the jury who will decide if there's an actual crime behind the biggest sex scandal in college football history. did a coaching legend molest ten points over 15 years at penn state? abc news has learned that victim number four, now 28 years old, will testify first. and bring with him an arsenal of corroborating evidence. including expensive gifts, prosecutors contend he received from sandusky as a teenager. from golf clubs, to snowboards,

to watches. and never-before-revealed love letters to the boys, allegedly written in sandusky's own hand. >> there's other evidence which has not been released to the public yet, which i believe will really resonate with the jury. >> reporter: andreozzi won't detail what's in the letters. but sources characterize them as creepy. tells abc news, one is written in the third person. a love story about a boy and a man. with a lewd title. >> it's extremely damaging. >> reporter: sandusky acknowledges showering with the boys and then hugging them. but in this "new york times" interview, denied sexual contact. >> if i say no, i'm not attracted to boys, that's not the truth because i'm attracted to young people, boys, girls. >> reporter: sandusky's attorney promises a hard-fought defense, poking holes in the victims'

stories, one by one. >> what did he intend? >> reporter: and another issue. what did he intend in those letters prosecutors say sandusky wrote? jim avila, abc news, washington. in other news this morning, the al qaeda's second in command was killed in pakistan. back in 2005, al libi was in u.s. custody in afghanistan. but he managed to escape and flee to pakistan. since then, he had become a powerful and efficient operational leader for al qaeda. the white house says his death leaves a huge hole in the terror network. the u.s. has pulled funding for pakistan's version of "sesame street" after reports that the local puppet theater working on the project was involved in corruption. the state department has laid out nearly $7 million of its $20 million budget for the show. a huge dock has washed ashore in oregon. and there's speculation it may have come from the japanese

welcome back, everybody. well, there is a big question about the economy this morning. will the fed ride to the rescue. the federal reserve reportedly may step in to stimulate the recovery. that's because recent disappointing reports suggest the economy may be stalling. "the wall street journal" says just the possibility could be enough to reassure the markets. that speculation and a good growth report from australia boosted markets overnight. tokyo's nikkei average was up 152 points today. hong kong's hang seng adding 239. and in london, the ftse opening higher.

on wall street, the dow gained 26 points yesterday. the nasdaq index rose 18. and speaking of nasdaq, the exchange may be making up some of the losses from the facebook stock offering. there were technical glitches in the nasdaq system which delayed many trades when the social network went public. meantime, facebook stock has lost almost one-third of its value since it debut. >> not what investors want to hear there. your ipad may soon be talking back to you. it's reported that apple's iphone voice assistant, siri, is coming to the company's tablet computers, as well. it will be one of the major features of apple's next mobile operating system, ios 6, which is expected this fall. kids' television is about to get healthier. disney, our parent company, is banning junk food ads aimed at kids on its programming in three years. michelle obama calls it a game-changer on the war on child obesity. many food products aimed at kids

flintstones." an iowa family searching for berries in their backyard found something much bigger. here's abc's ryan owens. >> reporter: everyone has skeletons in their closet. >> this is the first bone. >> reporter: this iowa man has considerably more than that. >> sometimes i get tired of moving bones around from one spot to the other. >> reporter: john and his two sons were hunting for berries in the woods behind their southeast iowa home, when they found something, well, mammoth. >> that's a really big bone. >> reporter: turns out, it's a femur. the thigh bone of a mammoth. there's a reason they're called that. the knee joint is the size of a soccer ball. john called in the pros. archaeologists and paleontologists from the university of iowa. so far they've unearthed 30 bones. vertebrae, rib bones, even toes the size of walnuts. >> pretty sure i knew what he had.
