a.j.: now on news 9, bright and mild for shoppers today, but a return to cooler temperatures is coming. the changes you' ll feel tomorrow. shelley: warm temperatures made for an enjoyable black friday. we take a look at the difference between today and one year ago. >> this whole bag is full of clothes for my son. shelley: holiday shoppers headed out in manchester to take advantage of black friday sales. how some people made out. and salem police growing some extra scruff to show support for an officer training for the boston marathon in memory of his mother. >> wmur

shelley: it was a beautiful black friday here in the granite state. temperatures in some parts were in the low 60' s. good evening, i' m shelley walcott. but this warm weather won' t be sticking around for long. let' s head over to meteorologist aj burnett for a look at the forecast. a.j.: big changes coming this way starting overnight and tomorrow. some of those are already showing up. we have some scattered showers moving up through lake champlain. the clouds are increasing. i will show you that line of showers extending down through buffalo, new york, and towards cincinnati. those showers are heading this way. behind the showers, a lot cooler. look take a look at things. through the overnight, a couple scattered showers. i will summarize what you can play and on for tomorrow. you want to get the code out again. the forecast in a few minutes. shelley: today' s warm weather made a pleasant afternoon for people who were out and about. wmur'

s suzanne roantree caught up with a few in portsmouth a thumbs up kind of day, even if mother nature did snuff out one outdoor activity. >> we are out enjoying the 60 degree temperatures but that' s a far cry from a year ago. the 2014 thanksgiving day storm was for the record books. nearly a foot of snow dumped on parts of new hampshire. temperatures near 32 and utility crews tried to restore power to more than 200,000. fast-forward a year later and quite a bit different story. temperatures soared into the low 60' s. shoppers at the sidewalks, many arriving on motorcycles. children were in their strollers, mothers and their exercise. none of them had to be bundled up. >> it is comfortable. >> you wear shorts all year round?

>> can you remember the last time the day after thanksgiving was this one? >> it was a long time ago. lessons tuesday. shelley: thank you. the unseasonably warm weather meant shoppers could leave their coats in the car when they hit the local shopping malls for black friday deals. wmur' s amy coveno spent the morning at the mall of new hampshire where the doors officially opened at 6:00 a.m. but some stores were open hours earlier than that. >> what a difference a year makes. a year ago, we were digging out thousands didn' t have power. this year, you don' t need your code and the weather is bringing out shoppers in droves. close for my son. i spent $30. so, lots of savings. >> with the help of shoppers, we uncovered the new big thing for this holiday season. >> a moopopper .

' until 10:00. santa will be here until 8:30. shelley: thank you. some seacoast businesses took part in plaid friday today. plaid friday is a bit different than black friday. it was started to celebrate the unique and creative businesses that add diversity to the shopping experience and many shops had their plaid on today. >> promoting small businesses, doorbuster crowd. this is my one plaid shirt. bringing out. this instead of the craziness. shelley: business owners in downtown portsmouth say more people were out shopping earlier the weather. the new hampshire spca in stratham cashed in on the frenzy of black friday.

throughout the day people wanting to adopt an animal could pick their price on all adult animals and there was special deals on kittens. last years event placed 40 animals in homes for the holidays. organizers hope that this year , many animals will be adopted. >> so far, it' s been mostly kittens, cats, dog. we also have a lot of birds and other small animals. whatever you are looking for. shelley: if you didn' t get a chance to stop into their black friday event, many more animals will be available for adoption. you can find out more on our website, wmur.com. nashua will be adding extra police for this weekend' s winter holiday stroll. more than 30,000 people are expected to head to downtown nashua for the annual event. city officials say an additional 20 officers will be added to patrols compared to previous years. the holiday stroll starts at 5:00 tomorrow night at city hall. for a complete list of road

shelley: a suspect in a police standoff in shooting in colorado is now in custody. police said the gunman was involved in multiple shootings parenthood this afternoon. nine people were taken to nearby hospitals, including water officers. the police have not -- four officers. police have not that how many civilians were hurt or if they know if the gunman had any connection to planned parenthood. hundreds blocked entrances to stores in chicago' s high end shopping district to bring attention to the police shooting of a black teenager. demonstrators are demanding the resignation of the police commissioner for a federal investigation into his department. some protesters were chanting "16 shots, 16 shots," which was the number of times laquan

shelley: the tree outside the state house lit up about an hour ago. it has more than 1500 lights. hundreds of people came out for the tree lighting celebration. families enjoyed food, music, a petting zoo and horse drawn wagon rides. even santa claus came out for the fun. >> this is a community event. just to bring us all together. there is no such thing as west for everybody. off with a fireworks display. a.j.: sure didn' t feel like christmas is 28 days away. concord today, only three was set over 100 years ago. this is pretty nice stuff.

it was six months of the most intense highs and lows you can imagine. i have three choices. i could sit there and feel sorry for myself. i/o my mother more so in her memory i decided to jump in the fight against cancer. i want to raise money and be someone who makes a difference. we have been allowed to grow our beards and november. we were able to raise another chunk of the money that way. healthily i am the straw that breaks the camel' s back and through the efforts of everyone else raising money, i would like to see a cure for this. i would like to see nobody have to go through this. i am constantly thinking about her. i over my life, where i am at today.
