tom: tonight, a manchester man has been charged with assault after police say he punched a person, resulting in a concussion and skull fracture. good evening, new hampshire. i' m tom griffith. jean: i' m jean mackin. police say it appears this altercation started inside a bar on maple street and ended on the pavement outside. today, the suspect was in court while the victim remains hospitalized. tom: wmur' s andy hershberger joins us live with the new andy? andy: tom, police say it was just a single punch that caused the injuries and now has a 26-year-old man facing a felony charge. 26-year-old david mitchell faces one count of second degree assault for allegedly punching another man outside of this manchester night club early sunday morning. police say it was a single punch that caused the victim serious injuries. carrissa pelletier: as you' re aware, mr. mitchell was involved with some sort of dispute with the victim during which time he struck the victim, causing the victim to suffer a skull fracture. it' s my understanding he is

we are concerned with this type of behavior and concerned for the victim' s safety, your honor. andy: police say both mitchell and the victim were at this bar. court records say one witness told police that mitchell had accused the victim of drugging his girlfriend in the club, but police are still trying to figure out exactly what sparked the altercation. lt. o' keefe: well, the investigation revealed that one of the subjects that was knocked unconscious allegedly may have spoken to or talk to a girl inside of the bar, and the male half was obviously not happy with that, asked him to step outside. andy: court records say as the two began to walk together away from the club, mitchell threw what a witness described as a sucker punch, knocking the victim to the ground where the back of his head struck the concrete. authorities say mitchell left the scene, and the victim was taken to the elliot hospital where he is still being treated. lt. o'

to second degree assault because serious bodily injury. he was treated for a concussion andy: mitchell' s bail was set today at $10,000. reporting live in the newsroom, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: we have learned the name of the man who died in a house fire in farmington. investigators say 44-year-old thomas marshal died from smoke inhalation. three other people who survived the fire say marshal escaped with them, but then went back inside. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. legislature is officially back to work. the house began the 2016 session this morning. wmur' s kristen carosa spoke with legislators about their expectations. she is joining us outside the state house where the day has just wrapped up. kristen: jean, dozens of bills were addressed today here in concord. it' s just the start to a busy legislative session. more than 1000 bills will be taken up over the next several months. on the first day, legislators tackled several regarding education, consumer affairs, and public safety. one bill that was passed by the

the eighth greater is in training for the junior iditarod. renner has been running her team of dogs since she was 10. it all started with the movie "snow buddies." after that, her parents took her to the sled dog races in laconia and she got her first dog, , storm, as a birthday present. renner' s father has been helping her a lot, along with peter franke, from new durham, who trains with her regularly. at next month' s great north woods challenge, renner will compete in the eight-dog class, she' s run this race before, and last year did the 30-mile can-am races deep in the woods of maine. she hopes that rigorous training will have her and the team ready for the 2018 junior iditarod, covering 150 miles outside of anchorage, alaska. for more on her training, s learned from her dogs, go to the escape outside
