tom: tonight, a manchester man has been charged with assault after police say he punched a person, resulting in a concussion and skull fracture. good evening, new hampshire. i' m tom griffith. jean: i' m jean mackin. police say it appears this altercation started inside a bar on maple street and ended on the pavement outside. today, the suspect was in court while the victim remains hospitalized. tom: wmur' s andy hershberger joins us live with the new andy? andy: tom, police say it was just a single punch that caused the injuries and now has a 26-year-old man facing a felony charge. 26-year-old david mitchell faces one count of second degree assault for allegedly punching another man outside of this manchester night club early sunday morning. police say it was a single punch that caused the victim serious injuries. carrissa pelletier: as you' re aware, mr. mitchell was involved with some sort of dispute with the victim during which time he struck the victim, causing the victim to suffer a skull fracture. it' s my understanding he is

we are concerned with this type of behavior and concerned for the victim' s safety, your honor. andy: police say both mitchell and the victim were at this bar. court records say one witness told police that mitchell had accused the victim of drugging his girlfriend in the club, but police are still trying to figure out exactly what sparked the altercation. lt. o' keefe: well, the investigation revealed that one of the subjects that was knocked unconscious allegedly may have spoken to or talk to a girl inside of the bar, and the male half was obviously not happy with that, asked him to step outside. andy: court records say as the two began to walk together away from the club, mitchell threw what a witness described as a sucker punch, knocking the victim to the ground where the back of his head struck the concrete. authorities say mitchell left the scene, and the victim was taken to the elliot hospital where he is still being treated. lt. o'

to second degree assault because serious bodily injury. he was treated for a concussion andy: mitchell' s bail was set today at $10,000. reporting live in the newsroom, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: we have learned the name of the man who died in a house fire in farmington. investigators say 44-year-old thomas marshal died from smoke inhalation. three other people who survived the fire say marshal escaped with them, but then went back inside. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. legislature is officially back to work. the house began the 2016 session this morning. wmur' s kristen carosa spoke with legislators about their expectations. she is joining us outside the state house where the day has just wrapped up. kristen: jean, dozens of bills were addressed today here in concord. it' s just the start to a busy legislative session. more than 1000 bills will be taken up over the next several months. on the first day, legislators tackled several regarding education, consumer affairs, and public safety. one bill that was passed by the

senate concerns the right to carry a concealed pistol or revolver without a permit. it is something the governor vetoed in the last session. looking ahead, legislators will address how to best deal with the drug crisis here in the state. another topic will be reauthorizing medicaid expansion , which brings tens of millions of federal dollars into the state. right now, it helps more than 45,000 granite staters access health care, although some republicans say they want more time to analyze how it' s working before moving ahead. rep. jasper: medicaid expansion is going to be the hot topic, discussing what our options are there and what the best solution is for the state of new hampshire. kristen: today' s session wrapped up at 4:00 p.m. it will continue tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. reporting live, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. tom: addressing new hampshire' s heroin epidemic is a priority

session. having now in washington, one granite stater is sharing her family' s story at the house of representatives. here' s wmur' s shelley walcott. shelley: tom, her name is kriss blevens, and today she is in d.c. to raise awareness on the heroin crisis here in new hampshire. blevens and her husband will speak before congress. her stepdaughter, amber, died in 2014 after overdosing on heroin. yesterday, blevens joined state leaders, presidential candidates, and treatment advocates in manchester to talk about curbing addiction in new hampshire. today, she is with congresswoman annie kuster, talking about the pain of losing a child to a fatal overdose. kriss: when you lose a child to overdose, your whole world crumbles. you don' t even know how you' re going to get up and do your day. but an angel spoke to me and said stand the stream of life. and that brought me to advocacy. that' s how i' ve been doing grief alongside my husband mark. shelley: blevins has joined

sundance film festival. hbo has acquired tv rights to "jim: the james foley story." foley was killed by isis more than a year ago. today, the man accused of buying the guns used in the san bernardino terrorist attack appeared in court. tom: 24-year-old enrique marquez pleaded not guilty to charges today, including lying about her to sing the two assault rifles used in that attack, killing 14 people. he is also charged with supporting conspiracy to support terrorists. marquez' s trial is set to start next month. jean: three firefighters battling a three-alarm fire were pulled to safety after getting trapped. the house fire started around 5:00 this morning on essex street in saugus, massachusetts.

negative side effects to the dispensary, but the town feels safeguards have been put in location. union. but if all goes as planned, this could soon be one of the first medical marijuana dispensaries in the state. timothy thompson: if they had to select a facility in merrimack, there is probably not too many that would be better suited than this one. heather: it is close to the highway. centrally located to serve counties, and being a former bank has a safe to secure the drugs and money. the owner of r.h. cars right next door worries it will hurt his business and also leave the area open to crime. but town officials say the non profit prime alternative treatment center of new hampshire has been working with them to address those concerns. and they have to submit a detailed security plan before the doors can open. but image and values are also a worry. thomas more college, a long running catholic institution, is

whether to allow students to use some forms of medical marijuana in school. if approved, the marijuana would have to be in a non-smoking form, would have to be approved by a physician, and nurses would not be allowed to administer it. tom: the mother of bella bond, the little girl found dead on deer island, is now being held on a million dollars bail. rachelle bond was arraigned this morning in suffolk county court after a grand jury indicted her for being an accessory after the fact to the murder of her daughter. david deakin: she told police that she knew immediately that her daughter was dead, and went to hold her, but mr. mccarthy prevented her from seeing her daughter. janice bassil: there are issues of emotional control, psychological control. she was, unfortunately, very heavily using drugs at that time that mr. mccarthy was providing to her. tom: defense attorneys say the bond knew exactly what happened to bella as police tried to identify baby doe but never came forward because of her boyfriend, the alleged killer michael mccarthy. bond is also charged with

she had died. jean: commitment 16 now wmur' s stephanie woods is live at unh law school with all of the details. stephanie: organizers say the table' s discussion here is the first time any of the 2016 presidential candidates have talked about human trafficking. the new hampshire coalition against domestic and sexual violence and the unh school of law invited governor john kasich to discussed the issues facing survival arts and how he would discuss human trafficking as president. the ohio governor spoke about how he has battled coerced prostitution and de-criminalized the victims of human trafficking in his own state, including sweeping legislation he signed in 2014. kasich said that he will pledge funding to combat human trafficking if he is elected president.

tom: here you go. video of the closing bell exchange, and it was not a very good day on wall street. korean situation. dow jones down 252 point, gun makers, though, are having a very good week on wall street. jean: president obama' executive orders on gun rules triggered a jump for stocks like smith and wesson, sturm ruger, those same companies also saw a big boost last year after proposals for tighter gun laws when they rose an average of 78%. chipotle is facing a criminal investigation over an outbreak of the norovirus at one of its restaurants in california. the investigation is being conducted by the fda and the u.s. attorney' s office. it requires chipotle to hand over a broad range of documents tied to the outbreak that happened this past summer. just last month, a chipotle restaurant in boston was shut

the eighth greater is in training for the junior iditarod. renner has been running her team of dogs since she was 10. it all started with the movie "snow buddies." after that, her parents took her to the sled dog races in laconia and she got her first dog, , storm, as a birthday present. renner' s father has been helping her a lot, along with peter franke, from new durham, who trains with her regularly. at next month' s great north woods challenge, renner will compete in the eight-dog class, she' s run this race before, and last year did the 30-mile can-am races deep in the woods of maine. she hopes that rigorous training will have her and the team ready for the 2018 junior iditarod, covering 150 miles outside of anchorage, alaska. for more on her training, s learned from her dogs, go to the escape outside
