daybreak." erin: good morning, new hampshire. sean: good morning. i'm sean mcdonald. a little bit cold out there. a beautiful day. kevin: white winds tell us everything. especially when you have the sunshine. we'll likely enjoy some sunshine this morning. once it fades away behind clouds, that's likely the last we see of it until monday. we're expecting quite a few clouds over the weekend. a little bit of a drizzle in the state. we start off in the single digits, teens to lower 20's. we climb in to the 30's for most. we'll talk about the clouds for the weekend coming up. let's look at your morning ride here in the granite state. we're joined live by deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning. we're seeing a pocket of heavy congestion as you make your way past the hooksett tolls. just be aware.

it appears to simply be an accident. sean: police are investigating a serious car versus pedestrian crash. a volkswagen jetta hit a woman near the entrance of market basket. the driver was not hurt. police have not identified either person involved. they may release more information later today. erin: police in massachusetts are looking for the man they say stabbed another driver during a case of road rage. officers in braintree say the incident spanned about a quarter of a mile before both drivers stopped, got out of their cars, and started to fight in the middle of rush hour traffic. then one man pulled a knife. >> we pulled up. it was a man laying down. people ran up and were throwing blankets on him. he seemed to be bleeding. somebody said he was in

bleeding. erin: the victim was taken to a boston hospital. the other driver took off. police are still looking for him. investigators say they have a week vehicle description. they are not releasing it at this point. sean: u.s. stocks are off to the worst start after the dow shed 400 points. stocks in china are up and down again this morning raising new concerns for wall street. as lana zak explains, there's no need to panic. lana: finally a good trading day on the chinese market. after previously sparking global market panics over fearing of a slow economy, they closed 2% higher. that's in contrast to thursday when they fell 7% and trading was suspend 30 minutes after opening, which fueled a nose dive on wall street. the dow closed down 400 points yesterday.

erin: after announcing a series of executive actions on tuesday, president obama hosted a town hall meeting in virginia to discuss guns in america. one of the invited guest was a native. clai sommers was 13 when her step-father shot her with a hunting life. now she's focused on helping other victims. >> you have to have a license. you can't sell at gun shows anymore. i feel that people have to come from the table on both sides and work on the issue together. erin: new hampshire state police say they performed more than 8,000 background checks for guns last month, more than twice the usual number. sean: the sentence will stand on a man convicting of abusing his girlfriend's son. he is serving 25 and a half to 67 years in prison.

sean: astronaut, scott kelly, just showed this picture of a pollution over china. air pollution is killing an average of 4,000 people every day in china. a homeless man in california is recovering this morning after he ended up inside a garbage truck. he was sleeping inside a dumpster and the garbage crew didn't notice him. the truck made several stops and even ran the compactor before he

pounding. installed. the gate likely saved the man's life. he did suffer some crushing injuries. erin: time warner cable saying that hackers may have stolen the e-mail addresses and passwords for customers. they haven't figured out stolen. there's no evidence of the breach of the systems that operation e-mail accounts. instead the information was likely stolen through malware. first response has developed a new high-tech pregnancy test. it uses bluetooth to connect to an app. when you first sign up, you'll answer a few questions about whether you want to get pregnancy or not. your responses determine how you get results. the app will provide suggestions for remaining calm while you wait for results and education plain possible next steps after you find out. sean: cut down on sugar and salt. that's according to a

days. temperatures felt much warmer. now the clouds will be moving in after sunshine this morning. i think we still have partial sunshine for western and northern areas in to the afternoon. the farther south and east you go the quicker the clouds will be racing in off shore or on shore as the morning moves along. that sets up in to the afternoon the chance of a little bit of a patchy drizzle. by later tonight, as temperatures fall below the freezing mark, the drizzle could be in the form of patchy, freezing drizzle. those with a light east and northeasterly breeze will continue to work its way on shore. early sunshine for south eastern areas quickly giving way to clouds. then after that chance we have this to contend with which likely starts to edge in early on sunday. temperatures right near country. a few places still below zero. 25 on top of mt. milder air above. in clouds. again as i mention a

east and northeast flow. it will start to make its way on shore later this morning. inland sections farther removed. partial sunshine allowing temperatures to get up at 36. we'll be in the mid to upper 30's if south eastern areas. the chance of a little bit of drizzle later on this afternoon. as that continues to work its way in later on this evening, we'll see an overcast sky in most locations. and a little bit of patchy drizzle or a mixed shower. if you are headed out early tomorrow morning, pre8:00 or 9:00 a.m., there's the chance there's going to be a couple of slick spots tomorrow morning. from there, cloudy sky otherwise. the chance of a mixed point tomorrow. maybe a couple of flurries or snow showers up north. but the main push doesn't arrive until just after sunrise on sunday. the overcast sky lingers shower. here comes the rain. the rainfall will be possibility of strong

southeast. as this arrives, it may be just cold enough i specially in some of the lower valleys or in central and northern areas it may briefly start as a mix. as you'll notice here, it wins out as rainfall. we could see well over an inch of rainfall out of this before it pulls away later on sunday evening. winds will eventually turn to the northwest behind it. then the colder air will start to rush in as we work our way in to the first half of next week. high temperatures today in to the 30's for most. look for a chilly start and clouds increasing. south eastern areas and farther north through the afternoon. cans of a little bit of drizzle during the evening and overnight hours. there could be a mixed shower around tomorrow. hours. early mix on sunday goes to rain. it could be heavy sun afternoon and sunday night. could be some strong winds coming on shore gusting over 40 miles an hour. sean: so the landscape might look different come monday?

back here at home an autopsy on the body of a man who was killed in the fire in andover. erin: the deadly fire broke out at a home on kearsarge mountain road shortly after noon yesterday. ray brewer live at the andover fire department. it was officially reported it involved an explosion. they don't think that's the case? ray: yeah. that's right. the call came in for reported propane explosion. they later determined. there was no explosion. the fire started in a brush pile outside of a home. now emergency crews quickly arrived on the scene. by the time they got there, they say the man was already dead. officials are not releasing his name until after an autopsy is completed today. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. but the state fire marshals office says this appears to be just a tragic accident and it is not considered

reporting live in andover, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: thank you. an explosion across the border in north andover, massachusetts left four people critically injured. that blast happened at dow chemical. hospital officials say four people were hurt. they suffered shrapnel and burn injuries. investigation. they do say the workers were handling a chemical at time that appears to have come in to contact with water or air, setting off the blast. >> what the patients had was blast injuries from the pressure of the explosion as well as the chemical on their bodies that they were exposed to. patients were washed with water for an extensive period of time to remove any contaminants that could be on their clothing or bodies. erin: this is not the first time the plant has dealt with an explosion. in 2013, a dow employee died after suffering severe burns and other injuries following an explosion inside the lab

sean: warner police say a woman found dead on bear pond road may have suffered an injury before she passed away. the body of 87-year-old allison robertson was discovered. it appears her car got stuck on a rock and she fell and hurt herself help. her body was found in the snow. it appears she had been laying there for a couple of days. >> i turned around got the lights on her. i realized it was an old lady. family. i would like to get in contact with them and give them my wishes and everything. let them know we were the ones that found her and she can rest in peace. sean: an autopsy is scheduled for today. erin: a manchester man is facing assaulted some officers. they were called to hanover street for a report of a man wearing a box cutter at people

search the suspect. 24-year-old ousman trawalley say he dropped it out of his sleeve and in to his hand and officers. he ended up punching and kicking them before he arrest. >> had the officer not taken the quick actions that he took and secured the item in his hand, one or two officers could have been stabbed or seriously injured. fortunately no one sustained serious injuries. erin: trawalley is being held without bail pending a hearing later on today. manchester police are searching for two women wanted in connection with an attempted robbery where a suspect was shot in the chest. 21-year-old julie lambert and 26-year-old amanda gurley were both in the car when the robbery attempt took place. the women are wanted on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery. police believe they still may be in the manchester area. erin: salem police came to the rescue of an injured owl. the department posted

on the stock shock. how are things looking so far today? nikole: they are looking a little bit better. that's for sure, sean. china's markets were volatile again today. they did close up about 61 points. it follows a series of steep selloffs that forced them to suspend trading. it has taken a toll on global markets. it includes the concerns about china's economy which is the second largest in the world. >> its economy has been growing by gang busters until recent years. no the economy is slowing. markets are nervous because they think that china may be falling even more quickly than they originally thought. nikole: the dow has lost more than 900 points since the start of the new year marking its worst four-day start on record, sean.

concerns over china here? is this more going on? nikole: that expert that we spoke to, you know, told us that, of course, china is a big part of the equation here. there could be other factors like the fed recently raising interest rates. some investors concerned how high they could go and how much the fed could raise rates and also iting earning season. in the next couple of week, we'll be finding out how they are doing. back to you. sean: in washington. thank you. erin: a philadelphia police officer is recovering after being shot while sitting in the cruiser. the officer was ambush and had to undergo surgery overnight. he is expected to survive. authorities say the suspect fired a total of officer three times in the arm. he returned the fire and shot the suspect. suspect's condition. cancer is the leading cause of death in new hampshire. 21 other states government health statistics. nationwide heart disease

the american cancer society's annual report shows that the cancer death rate has fallen 23% since 1991. the heart disease death rate is dropping at a steeper pace. it predicts 600,000 people will die from cancer this year. sean: an israeli reporter was literally stabbed in the back when the demonstration of the stab proof vest went wrong. the reporter volunteered to be put on the vest and another person to stab him in the back. in an earlier demonstration, everything went smooth. later on the knife went through the west. the report suffered a surface wound. whatever, just a knife in my become. erin: my debate is brewing in one -- in new york over one town's seal. it depredicts the founder in a friendly wrestling match with a local native american.

a new way to watch "daybreak." samsung debuted a tv that can be stacked like legos. they form one large tv unit. you can see the black lines between the displays there. a powerful processing pictures to whatever shape you create. i'm sorry, you don't see the black lines there. it is a total uniform screen. erin: interesting. another invention featured at the rho would be a hit in states like new hampshire. the smart shoes can warm your feet with just the touch of a smartphone app button. they tighten and losen without the person wearing them. the smart shoes can track your foot step and tell you how many calories that you are burning. they include a small headlight in each toe so you can see where you are walking in the dark. wow. the shoes of the future. kevin: does it make coffee? sean: it will soon. that's an option to get on it.

kevin: i'm waiting on that one. i'm right there first in line. sean: they can walk for you. kevin: of course 37 we start off with the weather headlines. temperatures in the 30's today. early sunshine gives way to clouds. it will be quickest to come on shore at shoreline. we go inland farther west and north it is going to take a few hours for you to see those clouds. under the thickest of the clouds by later this afternoon it could be a places. as temperatures continue to cool tonight and the clouds continue to increase and thicken, that drizzle likely will be in the form of some patchy, freezing drizzle. just scattered around. from there, there could be a mixed shower around at any point tomorrow. maybe a few snow flakes up north. then the next system that arrives here on sunday looks like it could be an early mix if it arrives. we're looking at rain and wind through the afternoon and evening. some of the rain is going to be heavy. there could be some spots over an inch, inch and a half of rain. you have to imagine with the icy coating over some of the snow right now.
