sean: plans are being made to bring new shopping, dining, and living options to southern new hampshire and developers say it could create thousands of jobs. erin: the jitters on wall street continue. many concerns are offset by the smiles at the gas pump. hayley: a storm system brews in the central united states. does it have any impact on us? sean: parts of the mid-atlantic region are bracing for a potentially historic storm after a little snow caused serious headaches in the nation' s capital yesterday. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do.

now, wmur news 9 daybreak. erin: that little bit of snow to our south made an impact on d.c. they are expecting more this weekend. sean: a lot of people up here a dying to get a snowstorm, but it is going to move to our south. hayley lapoint is in for kevin this morning. hayley: that is the way the models have been trending. i was talking to someone on facebook -- the brunt of it will be from d.c. into philadelphia. there is a live look in colebrook. 11 degrees there. it feels like only 11 in concord. seven, laconia. five, plymouth.

it feel far colder. at the bus stop, temperatures in the teens. temperatures will feel like the teens for the school kids. i will have more on this storm system as it gets closer to us. first, a look at the morning drive -- we are joined live by 95.7 wzid' s deb davidson. good morning. deb: good morning. emergency vehicles are on the scene of a two alarm fire in manchester on west street. they are urging motorists to avoid that area so that they can get the trucks in to fight that fire. all other major roads in new hampshire are completely up to speed. if you are commuting into massachusetts, there is a crash on 93 southbound at exit 41.

m deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. sean: we do start with breaking news in manchester. firefighters are battling a two alarm fire on west street near the intersection with granite. crews have been on the scene for more than a half-hour now. there is no word yet as to any injuries or what may have sparked this fire. we will bring you more information once we learned. you will want to avoid the area around west street. erin: plans to bring housing, shopping, and dining options to merrimack and salem are moving forward. developers have presented plans. the proposals include lots of retail, office, and restaurant space, plus hotel and living space. the plans would create a lot of jobs and generate tax revenue. >> we are to do a multifaceted

grocer, shops, all kinds of restaurants. there will be some fun upscale residential' s. it will be very urban. erin: the salem projects also includes brownstone-style living spaces and luxury apartment buildings. the approval process is just getting underway. sean: the volatility on wall street continues. the outlook for today is already down. the price of crude oil dropped below $27 per barrel for the first time since 2003. many investors are worried it signals a slowdown of the global economy. drivers filling up at gas stations are not complaining about the falling prices. >> i' m on a fixed income, i' m retired, and it makes the money go further.

erin: two people are due in court after police investigated a pair of attacks in claremont. a man reported being jumped on morning. he was treated for a knife wound to his face. early tuesday, a man was flown to dartmouth hitchcock for a pair of stab once. -- wounds. a claremont man is accused of selling crack cocaine in a school zone. a claremont woman will face drug charges. 31-year-old dawn lent is charged with possession of heroin and methamphetamine with intent to distribute. and man was arrested for possession of heroin. sean: we are going to dodge a bullet this weekend. a powerful winter storm will pass just to our south. washington dc and baltimore face

ray reminding -- ramundi is tracking storms. ray: chaos on the roadways overnight. the aftermath of a combination of untreated roadways and light snow, which literally wreaked havoc on the nation' s capital. >> i' m not used to driving in snow. it was pretty rough driving home. ray: the less than two inches of snowfall even delayed the leader of the free world. president obama' s returned to the white house was delayed after his staff changed plans due to the weather. in montgomery county, maryland, cars were stuck on roadways for hours. in west virginia, utility companies bracing themselves for impending power outages.

hayley: good morning, new hampshire. temperatures are chilly. wind chills will be running in the single digits. more on the weekend forecast in a couple minutes. sean: lawmakers in massachusetts are set to debate a new proposal to make the baystate hands-free. erin: a new proposal would ban the use of any handheld electronic device, including cell phones or checking your gps. the bill calls for fines ranging up to $500 for repeat offenders. sean: it is pretty common for members of the patriots to earn praise on the field. one player is being praised for his efforts away from the line. he has 22 stitches in his leg after kicking out the window of a car to save a woman from a burning car. he witnessed a three car crash

sean: firefighters often risk their own lives to help others. firefighters in california are being praised for simple act of kindness. they saw a homeless man slowly and gingerly walking along a busy overpass. the man did not have any shoes. one of the firefighters handed his own shoes to the man, even kneeling to tie them on his feet. erin: that is very nice. "star wars" fans -- you are going to have to wait a little longer. disney has pushed back the release of episode eight until right before christmas 2017. production is set to begin next

a spinoff movie will be released december of this year. the newest "pirates of the caribbean" movie will open next may instead. if you are thinking about getting a new big screen tv, now is the time to do it. more people buy tvs in the weeks leading up to the super bowl than any other time of year. you are going to be able to save an average of 20% or more on a high-end tv this month. sean: facebook is getting in on the sports action. they are rolling out "facebook sports stadium" this weekend for the nfl conference championship games and then for the super bowl. moving forward, the product will cover most majors or events around the world. after months of regulation, cinnamon bun oreos are finally here.

manchester, five miles per hour. that is not bad. this afternoon, wind gusts will approach 20-30 miles per hour. that will make it feel much colder. with the wind factored in this morning, we do have wind chills running in the single digits or the low double digits across the area. it is a good idea to cover-up all exposed skin and where the gloves. in the meantime, we will have bright sunshine and patchy clouds overhead. there are more clouds off to the west of us. what we are all watching very closely is this storm system here. this storm system is going to have huge impacts on the mid-atlantic. you can see it spinning around in kansas and working its way toward iowa and missouri. it is going to intensify rapidly

a beeline for the mid-atlantic coast line. these are all the different warnings and watches that have been issued. you see those green colors? that is a blizzard watch. we are talking maybe two feet of snow in washington dc and howling winds. it is all to the south of us. it is not our turn for a big storm this weekend. a few passing clouds up north today. a little bit chilly with the breezy conditions. wind. day. here is your saturday. clouds from that storm increase in southern new hampshire. no snow in the daylight hours. it will come after dark. this is what we are thinking right now.

the latest tracks keep the storm well to the south. 21, andover 21, plymouth. only in the teens up north. bitterly cold. temperatures in the 20' s. beyond that, next week, we warm up into the mid and upper 30' s next week. good for the skiers with the cold weather, although i' m sure they would like more snow. erin: a lot of the skiers would like to have that snow up in the mountains. we start with ray brewer on the phone following breaking news in manchester. ray: we are following a fire that is burning at 49 west street in manchester. according to the fire chief, this is considered suspicious. there were no injuries. this was a vacant building. firefighters responded just after 5:00 this morning.

manchester. erin: firefighters are battling a two alarm fire in west street. ray brewer joins us live. ray: firefighters are just about to declare this fire under control. according to the manchester fire chief, it was reported around 5:00 this morning at 49 west street, which is a vacant building. when firefighters arrived, they had fire on all three floors. it is also a congested area. they had to evacuate the two surrounding buildings. no one was injured. no firefighters or anyone else. there is no reason for this fire to have started, the chief says. they are classifying this fire as suspicious at this point. the fire is just about to be declared under control. the did go to two alarms on this fire. no one injured.

sean: a newly released poll shows that republican presidential hopeful donald trump continues to lead the pack of gop contenders. ted cruz is his closest competitor, but still 20 points behind trump. john kasich, rand paul, and chris christie all have 6%. voters have not made a final decision on who to vote or. erin: the trial continues today for a massachusetts businessman accused of kidnapping a woman in dover. prosecutors claim 62-year-old thomas minichiello leeward the woman to his hotel room under the pretense of a job interview. his defense attorney admits that he lied when he said he was in an area -- the area to hire for

car from concord street. several hours later, he allegedly crashed the car on shaker road. he was arrested on multiple misdemeanor charges. erin: governor maggie hassan is planning to sign some bills aimed at curbing the drug crisis. another bill creates a study about the overdosed reader sold drug narcan. sean: a majority of voters are opposed to a bobcat hunting season. the survey found that 62% of voters are opposed to the trapping and hunting of bobcats in the granite state. the commission will hold two hearings on the proposal next month. erin: a documentary about new hampshire journalist james foley

talking about the weekend forecast coming up in a few moments. sean: senate democrats have blocked a house passed bill that would crack down on syrian and iraqi refugees. erin: the senate voted 55-40 three, falling just short. the bill would require new background checks and individual sign offs from three high-ranking officials before any new syrian refugees could come into the u.s. sean: the u.s. military has expanded its ways to fight isis in afghanistan. the pentagon says u.s. forces cannot go after isis members in the war-torn country. under previous rules, the military could only go after isis elements that posed a threat to u.s. forces in the area. last week, the state department

it feels like 6 in laconia. only 15 in manchester with the wind chill factored in. as we go through time, this is about lunchtime, it does not get any better. the wind chills are still at it. it will feel like nine degrees at lunchtime in concord. six in laconia. be prepared for the cold today. limit the amount of time you spend outdoors. especially, the kids, the elderly. cover exposed skin. it might be solar glare that will be a problem. just a few passing clouds up north. that is not the case in the central part of the u.s. you see this spinning? that is the infant storm. it is moving off toward the east.

intensify over the next 24 hours or so. as it heads toward the mid-atlantic, it is going to bring very heavy snow for places like washington dc and into the appalachian mountains in that pink area. even into philadelphia and baltimore. there could be upwards of two feet of snow. notice that that does not get to us. we are on the fringe of this storm system. if we are lucky, southern communities may get a dusting of snow late saturday night, but that may not even happen to be honest with you. here is how things go today. bright and sunny, cold, windy. passing clouds up north. the difference tomorrow will be that the wind will not be as bad. it will not feel as bitterly cold. saturday is when the storm system starts to approach. we will have clouds increasing from the south to the north.
