for the latest tracking of this storm hitting to our south, thank goodness, we check in with mike haddad. mike we've been talking about this thing all week long. and right now it is blowing up off to our south, intensifying snowfall rates, one to as much as three inches per hour. take a look at the leading end, marked by high clouds, providing the milky appearance to the sky cover in southern new hampshire late this afternoon. the snow shield beginning to stretch towards new york city, but no snow just yet in the big apple. however, it is as toking in places that you normally don't expect to see it, in portions of mississippi, alabama, georgia, south carolina and north carolina. while the blockbuster snow right now is over west virginia towards the nation's capital. take a look at the projected snowfall totals by early sunday morning, two feet plus in some cases getting up near three feet. some of the mountains of west virginia and western virginia. around here we just barely get brushed in southern new hampshire later tomorrow.

weekend in a few minutes. tom: the winter storm is slowing down travelers, here's a live look at the flight board of the airport's website, several flights delayed or canceled. stephanie woods live now with how travelers are scrambling to get to their destinations. reporter: well, although we're spared from all that snow slamming the mid atlantic here in new england, we're not spared from the travel woes, a lot of people feeling the headaches here at manchester airport. so far moving forward tonight there are six flight that have been canceled, and now five flights going out are shut down. two flights are running late. each delayed at least an hour. all the flights to and from baltimore, washington d.c. and charlotte have been canceled, with many out of newark and philadelphia also affected. naomi of york, maine is flying to chicago to visit her son and was relieved to fine her flight is on time.

keeping a close eye on it, pretty used to it in new england to watch the storm, and especially flying to chicago this time of year, we had our finger on that all the way, so i felt confident that we were going to be okay, but i wasn't sure about rerouted other flights and how that would impact us. reporter: some other flights to and from chicago have actually been delayed or canceled. so it just goes to show thaw even if you are not flying to or connecting with mid atlantic or flights to mid atlantic states, you still need to check with your airlines before heading out to the airport. stephanie woods, wmur news 9. jennifer: a nashua woman accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter was in court today. her attorneys filing numerous motions to get statements and evidence suppressed. the 26-year-old mother claims this was an accident. and that she was emotional when she talked to officers. heather hamel has the story. reporter: her lawyers tried to

custody from the moment police came into her house until she completed a recorded interview hours later. but police and prosecutors say she was always free to leave and her statements should not be thrown out. >> her daughter was dying dead on the bathroom floor. so would it be a fair assumption to say that she might be upset? reporter: attorneys for kaitlin march -- marin say she was in disexpress and while she did talk to police before he was read her rights, she never realized that she wasn't required to or was free to go. >> that's why when you get to the station you don't tell her, you don't have the talk to me. >> no. >> and that's why you don't make any efforts to provide to her a phone to contact her attorney when she gets to the station. >> at any point in time she wanted to use the phone -- >> that's not my question. you didn't make any officer -- >> no. reporter: the sergeant says on

2014, kaitlin marin voluntarily climbed into her cruiser and began to talk. she says the conversation continued at the police department. marin maintaining that it was an accident, saying brielle had had a seizure and fell down the stairs twice. marin's attorneys want to suppress those statements, along with evidence seized saying there wasn't problem al cause for the search warrants. but the medical examiner had concerns about the injuries. >> he opined that these were not consistent with falling down the stairs, and we also had the information that the defendant was suspected of physically abusing another child within that same home. reporter: that charge was dropped late last year. as for this incident, marin is facing alternative counts of second degree murder or manslaughter. the defense also filed motions to limit or dismiss other witness statements, for the most part the judge granted those requests but left the door open to revisit and marin's trial is set to begin this summer.

overnight tonight, on average three, two, maybe down near zero in a few spots. afew spots near the canadian border below zero. with the high cloud cover thicker over southern parts of the state, mid teens should do it. now, all eyes of course on this big storm down to the south. heavy duty snow, heavy ice in portions of the carolinas. and also some rain in portions of eastern north carolina. all of this associated with the developing mid atlantic soon. we're talking about wind over 35 to 45 miles per hour and snowfall rate of one to three inches per hour making for miserable stormy conditions to our south. the leading edge of that storm in the form of high cloud will southern new hampshire tonight and during the day tomorrow. but we could squeeze out a few glimpses of partial sun early. well to the north it's a mostly sunny saturday, and you'll notice the northern edge of that snow begins to creep up through

so if you have travel plans to the south, into northern massachusetts, a better shot of steady light snow developing during the afternoon. then heavier snow once you get into connecticut, rhode island and southeastern portions of massachusetts where they could see well over four, five, six, even seven inches of snow. best bet of a very light accumulation, manchester south and southeast later tomorrow afternoon into early tomorrow evening. later tomorrow night the skies will clear, a breeze will kick up at times and temperatures remain seasonably chilly. two feet plus, in and around portions of virginia, west virginia, maryland and southern parts of central pennsylvania. to the north the numbers will decrease, but still a hefty snowfall in portions of southern new york and southern parts of connecticut. once you get into new england not a whole lot of snow in northern new england, but to the south two to four, northern parts of massachusetts cannot be ruled out. and as we just get brushed with that northern edge later tomorrow and tomorrow night, especially manchester south and
