about the trouble these showers ahead. hayley: yes, indeed, we have had through. they're already gone in central and southern new hampshire. now it would be the deep freeze that would cause an issue with maybe some black ice. but it's still snowing up north in whitefield and lancaster. we're hearing of these issues along route 3, and probably 302 snow. in lancaster there isn't any snow on the radar, but that's deceiving because there actually is snow happening there, except the radar can't see a lot of times those communities because of the beam getting blocked by the white mountains coming from southern maine, that radar beam. so it is still snowing in whitefield and also in littleton, and roads are slick there. 31 degrees in whitefield, 34 in plymouth, and laconia, 35 in concord, so here's what you can expect for the weekend. more snow showers up north, during the evening hours tomorrow night, but for the rest of the weekend for everybody

family fund. >> i have refiled the paperwork, identifying that this is a personal asset of mine. and i'm ready to move forward and focus on the work that we have in congress for 2016. reporter: guinta repaid the $355,000 with money from his current campaign account, something he says doesn't bother his donors. >> it doesn't necessarily come up. people support me for a whole variety of reasons, but i like to think it's because what they get out of me is good government. reporter: but not all of his constituents support him. a wmur granite state poll taken in october showed 50% of first resign. 34% of republicans said the same. >> the poll is a poll, it's one snapshot in time. i haven't relied on polls for years now. >> and he says the issue hasn't come up had he meet with constituents. >> if people ask, i'm more than willing to address it with
6:07 pm
and people are, it's a fair question to ask. reporter: now that guinta repaid the money, right now he only has $12,000 left on hand to start campaigning for re-election. at least three other candidates say they're running for guinta's seat. kristen carosa, wmur news 9. tom: in the race for president tonight, republican donald trump took a quick break from the campaign trail in iowa today to hold an event here in nashua. trurp spoke for about an hour and told first in the nation voters his decision to pull out of the debate last night was a success because it drew all of the headlines away from the other candidates. trump also took some shots at his chief rival in iowa, senator ted cruz, calling him a canadian anchor baby. >> cruz may not be a u.s. citizen, right? but he's an anchor baby, no, he's an anchor baby. ted cruz is an anchor baby in

on the ice this weekend. it's a family friendly event with food and bonfires to keep you warm. up for grabs again this year is the stick award. >> it's been a great event, we get the same 90 teams coming back every year, we have a full field. and it really turned into quite a community event. we have a lot of community support. jennifer: the games continue all weekend and right now area youth teams are out there on the ice. tonight's action will be capped off with a fireworks show at 7:00. hayley: good friday evening, everybody. if you are heading out to enjoy the fireworks or the bonfire that's going on tonight for the pond hockey championship in concord, temperatures will be fall through the 30's, about 31 degrees by 7:00 when the fires go off. and good weather too for them, especially for the spectators. with temperatures above freezing and no big snow events over the weekend. although 45 certainly might get the ice a little slushy by sunday. but that's of course when it

looks like a fun event. we do have snow showers passing a cross the state this evening. theres with a band that moved across the monadnock region and toward the seacoast, but that is gone now. all eyes now up on the northern part of the state here, north of the notches where we have some issues being reported because of the snow still falling. from lancaster to littleton, bethlehem and up toward twin mountain and whitefield, we're hearing that the roads are very hazardous. haven't had any reports of exactly how much snow is up there, but this is a three-hour loop of the radar and we can see that it's been ongoing in these areas. so no doubt at least an inch on the roads, maybe more than that. and it's been coming down at a good clip in these areas. so very treacherous travel north of the notches right now. so a heads up there. that will be the case all evening long in until the snow lets up, which will happen overnight tonight. this is storm system number one coming through right now exphvment this is storm system
6:16 pm
through late in the day tomorrow. there will be snow showers with this system, mainly north of the notches. but little to no accumulation. but as we sea teed, even a little bit of snow on the roads can cause big issues. these are the high temperatures we got to today. the average high for this time in january is about 31. so even up north we were well above the average high, so that's about 38 manchester and in nashua. this is only the beginning. temperatures are really going to be warming up as we push forward. right now we're awe hanging onto the 30's. but look at the high temperatures as we go into the second half of the weekend and early next week. yeah, 50 degrees by monday. then we may flirt with that by mid-week next week. so we have some big temperatures fluctuations over the next week or so. as we push forward into february. hard to believe that. so some snow showers continuing up north of the notches throughout the evening and overnight hours, you see by 7:00 tomorrow morning, that they're gone, just a few
6:17 pm
starting with sunshine, concord points south. with temperatures in the 20's. but then we lose the sunshine as clouds invade from the west to the east during the afternoon tomorrow. no snow with them, at least in central and southern new hampshire. maybe a quick dusting to an inch up north. then sunday worry all back to sunshine, a few passing clouds. look at the temperatures though by sunday afternoon we're all cranking it up into the mid 40's, even close to 50 in some of the southern communities on sunday. and definitely hitting 50 once we get to monday in those southern communities. tonight flurries end, clearing skies will take place. up north some lingering cloud during the morning hours and then all of us see the clouds fill in with temperatures in the 30's. upper 30's to low 40's tomorrow. then for sunday, a mix of sun and clouds, 45. and look at the temperatures as we progress next week. then mid-week on wednesday we have the chance of seeing some very heavy rain. some severe weather will track across the u.s. and then that
6:18 pm
wednesday and it will fall in the form of rain because temperatures will be in the 40's. so this weekend, good weather for travel after tonight's shaky weather up north with the snow showers. tom: all right. jason is in with sports. >> a lot of friday night hockey to talk about. we'll talk about dartmouth and their clash with the null one team in the country.
6:19 pm
>> i just know the system now, with watching film and knowing where guys want the ball and where i'm going to get my shots and things like that. it's easy for me now, so i'm very comfortable with my teammates and like i always say my teammates and my coaches put me in position to be successful and i just go from there. >> that is isaiah thomas giving his team some credit for his success this year. he was named an all-star last night for the first time in his career. he'll be on the court tonight when the celtics host the magic at 7:30. a huge game on tap for thompson arena tonight in hanover, the dartmouth men will take on the top ranked team in the country, the quinnipiac bobcats. bobcats led by a bedford native in his 22nd season at the school. it will be a good test for a dartmouth team that won seven of its last eight games. >> offensively they're incredibly solid, they're quick,

and they're really good defensively. then you throw in specialty teams, which they're at the top of the country in, so they're a form middable opponent, but i know our guys will be ready to play. we've got to manage the puck well, stay out of the box and play with passion and desire. >> i think if we play our five on five game we should be good. >> we'll have highlight tonight. doesn't get any easier for the u.n.h. wildcats. they'll play two against providence fryars, both on the road. game one is tonight. new hampshire beat providence in last year's hockey east quarterfinals. but it was the fryars that went onto win the national championship. >> we're not afraid to go into battle with anybody and we've proved to ourselves that we can win against them on a big stage. so i guess we're a little more comfortable than we would have been if we lost that series. we're ready for whatever comes at us.

obviously we have to play one of the top teams in the country, so it's an opportunity for us. >> we have to playful six each night. one of the best teams in the nation, we'll need a full effort. >> women's hockey, dartmouth home with princeton this afternoon. late in the second, no score, laura stacy scores on the back hand, that's a goal for the captain, gave dartmouth a 1-0 lead. but princeton scored the next four. princeton wins it 4-1. tough loss for the big green today. tom: thank you. right now on wmur.com, a special visitor has bird lovers flocking to rye, a snowy owl, the warning for the new hampshire audubon society for anyone trying to catch a glimpse. jennifer: plus a little over a week away from the first in the nation primary, so we have put together a slide show of pictures from the campaign trail so that you can take a look back at some of the moments you may have missed.
