erin: good tuesday morning, new hampshire. thanks for waking up with us. sean: i' m sean mcdonald. but a lot. we are starting one of the most exciting weeks in new hampshire -- the first in the nation primary. erin: several presidential candidates arrived overnight in new hampshire fresh off the iowa caucuses. taking a quick look at the results. the democratic race was a dead heat with hillary clinton just a fraction of a point ahead of bernie sanders. ted cruz pulled off the win on the republican side followed by donald trump and marco rubio. sean: first, let' s talk about

sean: the results last night that marked the end of the line for two candidates on each side. former governor martin o' malley suspended his campaign after receiving less than 1% of the vote in iowa. republican mike huckabee just got 2% of the vote and he announced that he is suspending his bid for the white house. erin: even though the campaigns are just hitting the big push, the landscape of the race is already changing before voters cast their ballots. scott: marco rubio did better than expected. a strong third-place, almost second-place, finish. he comes to new hampshire with the wind strongly at his back. , he' s leading in all the polls, he' s the national front runner,

sean: jury selection is underway in the trial of a londonderry man accused of breaking into a home in maine and shooting two people, including his wife. erin: gregory allen' s faces -- gregory owens faces federal charges in maine. he checked his wife to saco and shot she and the male homeowner three times each. both survived. a jury has found an allenstown man guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. a jury rejected kyle buffum' s insanity plea. his ex-girlfriend pled guilty to attempted murder last year for the 2014 stabbing of andrea halverson. she did survive. sean: police in rochester are releasing very few details about a serious assault outside

parking lot of gary' s bar and lounge. the victim was in serious condition. the public is not in any danger and police have not named any suspects. erin: a woman in vermont is expected to be released from the hospital after police called -- what police called an ice missile smashed through her windshield. large chunks of ice flew off the top of a tractor-trailer and slammed into the 73-year-old woman' s car. the truck did not stop, but police say it is possible the driver had no idea what happened. police are reminding drivers to clear all snow and ice off their vehicles. sean: it comes at you fast when you are moving at those speeds.

sean: for the last two months, we have been breaking down key issues in the presidential election. erin: with just a week left before the new hampshire primary, sally kidd looks at the political climate facing the next president. sally: in congress, where compromise is rare, gridlock and dysfunction rule the day. >> you can' t be serious about this. sally: the partisan warfare reflecting a deepening red-blue divide in america. rancor is nothing new, but the political gulf has been widening over the last 20 years. republicans have become more conservative, democrats more liberal.

now the focus turns to the new hampshire primary. some candidates arrived in the granite state overnight. many will be campaigning here today. erin: the world health organization has declared the zika virus and international emergency. a suspicious link has been noted between the arrival of the zika virus in brazil last year and babies born with abnormally small heads. there is no definitive proof that the zika virus is responsible for the birth defects. the zika virus is causing problems for one indian motor company. tata motors plans to unveil its latest hatchback with the name of zica. a company spokesperson says it is reevaluating the car' s name and may consider a change.

sean: scientists in the u.k. have been given approval to conduct gene editing experiments on human embryos. the researchers will not be creating babies. the modified embryos will be destroyed after seven days. scientists say it could lead to treatments for conditions like hiv. the united states does not allow the use of federal funds for embryo modification, but there is no outright ban on gene editing. erin: the super bowl circus previously known as media day is now super bowl opening night. the broncos and the carolina panthers all met in san jose, california last night, met with the media an hour apiece. opening night is now held on monday night. the super bowl kicks off on sunday. sean: scary moments for a
