in the south eastern half to third. starting to stick. you get out not quite yet with temperatures just a few degrees above the freezing mark in south eastern spots. up north just starting to get in on the light snow and snow shower activity. expecting the heaviest of this today to be mid to late morning before starting to taper off during the afternoon and the heaviest portion of this to be for south eastern areas of the state. locally you could see upwards of six inches of accumulation. a general three to five inches of snow for the south eastern half of the state. again we're looking at snowfall rates with the system with the possibility of over an inch per hour. the morning drive could be tricky. live pictures in windham. let's check in with deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning. we are beginning to see some heavy slowdowns throughout the state. couple of those trouble spots right now. 93 northbound flu

you can see the roads are wet. because it's been so warm for the past few days, whatever snow is falling is as you just saw the plow truck go by there. the plow obviously not down. he is salting and sanding right now. but as i was saying whatever snow is falling as it hits the ground is melting. we kind of expect that to change as the cold continues to move on in. there could be some icy spots. obviously why the plow truck is out salting and sanding in anticipation of that happening. traffic can moving without any problems. the speed limits are a little bit slower than normal. you want to factor in the extra time. reporting live in epping, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: turning to politics. hillary clinton and bernie sanders have

erin: a survey was conducted on pregnant women. many mothers said they drank and smoked in the third trimester. two people in brazil have contracted the virus through blood transfusions. researchers are developing mosquitoes that are incapable of transmitting things like zika and malaria, potentially stopping diseases from spreading. sean: lawmakers in vermont are taking up a bill to require restaurants to provide menus written in braille. supporters say the move wouldn't cost much money whole providing services to customers.

once again the change over has begin. that's going to impact the morning commute especially in some of the other areas closer to manchester and concord where it has been snowing a little bit more. they are expecting more snow also as you head to the boston area. you are going to want to factor that in. reporting live in epping, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: all right. some big clumps falling out there. it is national kevin: third straight february 5th it is snowing hard. erin: get some con confetti. kevin: woe don't need it. walk out. erin: that's what i'm saying natural. kevin: along with that, it has been transitions over to snow. itself. you are still a little bit of light rain at this point. look for a switch over to some light snow.

with a light coating to a half an inch of snow. up in central and northern areas of the state just truly starting to see the light snow develop. you'll notice it is mainly rainfall farther to the south and east. any sort of rainfall that is leftover with the rain dropping closer should be giving way as temperatures continue to cool. the cooler air in the mid levels come down with the precipitation and change over any rain drops to snowflakes. that's what has been happening now. it is all snow. it will be wet with temperatures in the upper 20's to mid 30's. snowfall rates could be an inch per hour at times for areas of south eastern parts of the state. beyond that the farther west you go and the farther north you go, we're looking at a much lighter version of the system with a light coating to a few inches of accumulation at best. the snow hasn't gotten going yet. coating. the heaviest portion will be closer to the center of circulation

that means the most focused snow could give you anywhere between 4:00 to 7:00 inches of snow. low to mid 30's will be the temperatures when it falls. you'll notice a certain back edge by 11:00. that continues to go from of upper valley. that slides quickly to the east by 2:00. by 3:00 or 4:00, we're looking at a brightening sky across the area. the travel problems that we'll have out there in areas won't be as prevalent by the time we get toward the afternoon. from there, partial sunshine for both days over the weekend. could be a couple of snow showers late saturday or early sunday up in the north country. maybe a flurry elsewhere. that's it through monday as it stands now. all eyes to the west for the next system possible situation which is centered toward tuesday. if anything, the trends have been to pull back and move that system a little farther to the south which would leave

snow snowfall. things change as you get closer. looking at a general three to five inches with less than three inches in the north western half of the state. there could be a couple of spots, even some spots that haven't changed over to snow yet that may have the potential with the most out of this. from there, we're looking at the chance of snow showers on sunday. then the colder air comes back in. this more like winter as we get in to the next seven days. we're looking at snow possible and again the keyword there for tuesday is possible. it may just be some light snow and flurry activity moving through for the primary day and getting colder for the second half of next week. we're going to earn the rest of the winter. this is the pattern. sean: a lot of people saying i haven't seen anything else.

candidate tracker in the politics section of the web site. sean: new poll numbers give us a better idea of where they stand ahead of the primary. the wmur cnn poll shows that donald trump is maintaining his lead both now and before the iowa caucuses. marco rob is second. ted cruz saw a one point bump from 12% to 13% following his win in iowa. john kasich is at 12%. jeb bush is at 10%. chris christie lost some support following the caucuses. support from fiorina and ben carson stayed the same. erin: hooksett police are asking for your help in tracking down two men that broke in to a gun store and stole four firearms. it happened early wednesday morning. the suspects were captured on surveillance. the shop owner says they came prepared. he says the men had bulk

after breaking in, the burglars made off with handguns and semi-automatics. he's worried about the weapons being on the streets. >> for us, security is paramount. safety of the public is paramount. just like any gun shop owner. it is even more troublesome for us when something like this happens. because you go. you worry about people and things that can happen when they are out there. you try to mitigate this as much as possible really. erin: the owner says the guns are worth more than $2,000. anyone who recognizes the suspects is urged to call hooksett police. sean: a new system at the portsmouth naval ship yard is causing some problems for the neighbors. the ship yard launched a new radio communication system. it is using a frequency that interferes with local garage door openings. one pair of neighbors say they got suspicious when both of the remotes stopped working. >> my wife said the clicker didn't work when

for the potholes. kevin: i think even in the best of conditions i'm a hospital visit waiting to happen on one of those. sean: that's why we're going to day. suit. that looks like it is all sorts of trouble. we start off with rainfall closer to the shoreline. inland. pease just a couple of the switch over. the gradual changeover occurs in far south eastern areas over the next hour or two. it has been light snow. a half inch in the swanzey area. an eighth of an inch north of keene. while we continue to see the light snowfall. you'll notice the roadways still wet. the temperatures still above the freezing mark way. you need a good burst of snow for that to really start to accumulation. that's the potential in some areas for over an inch of snow per hour through about 11:00 or lunchtime as the height

make its way through and the closest pass from the area of low pressure morning. it will start to pull away. the snow will start to wind down in to the afternoon. we're on the real northern and north western fringes of the system. over six inches of snow likely from boston south. it may make its way to the border with the wet snow continuing to come down. it will not be a fluffy temperatures either side of the freezing mark as it comes down. snow continues to pick up this morning. it truly just started in the farther northern areas. there are the burst of one inch per hour. back northeastward and in our direction. temperatures above the freezing mark across a good part of south eastern areas and down near the freezing mark. you start to the get to

snow gets heavier and it starts to accumulate the liquid that's been melting even if they've been treated may start to form in to a glaze of ice. this is all stuff in science of the roadways type situation that you have to bear in mind if you are going to be traveling any length of distance across the state this morning. temperatures later on by 2:00 or 3:00 essentially near the freezing mark. the snow heaviest late morning and then starting to taper off from west to east rather rapidly. some breaks of sun by late in the day for western areas of the state. falling in to the teens and 20's later on tonight. partly sunny skies. there may be a couple of snow showers saturday night or early sunday. may be a flurry around for southern areas. that will be the leading edge of colder air that starts to make its way back in. that will be in place for the next possible system which is centered around tuesday. tale still to be told on that. a general three to five inches of snow for the south eastern half of the state. there may be just a

erin: 6:55. updating our top stories. sean: the snow is coming down causing a slick morning commute. let's check in with ray brewer. ray: the snow in epping has been falling for about an hour. you can see the traffic on the eastbound side which is the taillights heading away there, it is not moving quite as quickly. that's because we just had two plows. they are salting and sanding. they are down to about 25 to 30 miles per hour.
