sean: breaking news this noon, a manhunt for the suspect wanted in the explosions in both new york and new jersey who was wanted has just been taken into custody. after a soaker of a start, it remains warm and humid into the afternoon. other rain chances are detailed with futurecast ahead. what this much needed rain means for the drought conditions. plus, the challenges it created for some residents. announcer: no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur news 9 at noon. sean: let's get right to that breaking news. the man wanted in connection with the explosions in new york city and new jersey is now in custody. just minutes ago, within the last hour, the suspect, 28-year-old on the john mahoney

arrested. several of his family members were taken into custody last night. reporter: 48 hours after the first explosion happened here, a suspect is finally in custody. this as investigators continue to search this area after the first explosion happened here in manhattan. 28-year-old ahmad khan rahami, a suspect wa jersey, now in police custody after shootout with police in new jersey. >> we will bring him to justice and keep new yorkers say. reporter: federal agents moving in, searching through rahami's home in elizabeth, new jersey. [explosion] the same city where yet another explosion took place overnight. the bomb squad trying to diffuse one of five devices found in a backpack when it exploded. this while authorities say it was right near the verranzano

fbi agents stopped five men and detained them. [sirens] the explosion in manhattan, the chaos, all happening on a balmy saturday night. law enforcement officials moving rapidly in piecing together this investigation. >> the evidence we've collected has been taken to our lab in quantico for review, and we are following every viable lead as we continue to work jointly with the nypd. reporter: investigators are closely analyzing this dumpster, twisted and mangled in the aftermath of the explosion. fr bomb in seaside park, new jersey, to the chelsea explosion, investigators say they were able to track rahami from a cell phone attached to an undetonated pressure cooker discovered a few blocks away from the chelsea bombing. now that he is in custody, fbi investigators will try to determine whether he acted alone or was part of the network of terror. ray brewer monday, abc news, new york.

as the suspect in these attacks was arrested. here is his message to the people of new york and new jersey. president obama: we do not and never will give in to fear, that is the most important ingredient in us defeating those who would carry out terrorist acts against us. sean: we will continue to follow these developments online and on the air. a press mayor bill de blasio is upcoming. switching to weather. a drought-stricken granite state got some much needed rain this morning. some parts of the state saw several inches. one hard hit area was concord, where we saw flooding in some areas. our team coverage begins with meteorologist kevin skarupa. we needed this. kevin: over two inches of rain in the capital city. three inches of rain in parts. the heaviest rain was along and

overnight. the same areas that heavy rain now have lighter rain with even more focused rain to the south of our border down through massachusetts and southern new england. a lot of that is moving generally eastward through the afternoon. temperatures this afternoon are slowly making their way into the 70's. dew points in the 60's. the humidity is there this afternoon. it will likely remain through tomorrow. approaching. all the details on that coming up in a few minutes. sean: thanks. from flooded basements to flooded cars, this much needed rain wasn't a welcome way to start this week for some in concord. wmur's ray brewer is live there this noon with more on why. good afternoon. ray: good afternoon, sean furey some sections -- sean. some sections of this neighborhood were underwater

hose was gushing water being pumped out of basements. overnight, the rains moved in. in one concord neighborhood it meant an early morning wake-up call for the residents. dwayne hardy was doing his best to keep up with the deluge but losing the battle. hardy says he had at least two feet of water in his basement. >> i got a new washing machine, but that's probably no good now because the motor's under water. i got a couple of tv's that are under water. my vacumn cleaner was floating around, a lot of clothes, pictures books, my winter clothes, kids' winter clothes were all down here, and they were all floating in the water. >> torrential. ray: that's the word that jamie callahan picked when asked to describe the rain. >> we heard the rain this morning, and my girlfriend got up, and she shut the windows, and two minutes after that, my neighbor knocked on the door and told me to move my car. ray: callahan was lucky he got his car moved in time. jeremy hardy wasn't. >> i think the water just went up through the muffler and into the engine when i went to back

ray: now hardy says all he can do is wait for the sun to come out. this year, the state has been dealing with extreme drought conditions in southern new hampshire. among the hardest hit are the state's farmers. robert larocque says it's too late for this year, but it could help. >> at this time of year, everything is just sucking in nutrients to get through the winter, so it will help for next year putting water in there. ray: and there could be some benefit for this year. for the next three or four weeks, which is what we want. ray: larocque says that they were able to irrigate their pumpkin and squash crops, so those are in good shape for the fall, but he says come spring, they might be looking at digging a bigger irrigation pond. reporting live in concord, wmur news 9. sean: thanks. new this noon, the u.s. department of agriculture has just designated grafton county a natural disaster area due to the

farmers now have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses. farmers and ranchers in belknap, carroll, coos, merrimack, and sullivan counties in new hampshire also qualify for natural disaster assistance. senate candidates kelly ayotte and maggie hassan participated today in a joint conversation at saint anselm college about social security. senator ayotte said reform is a top priority that must be done in the next two to four years. hampshire, three in ten, social security is their only income, and it's really important that we ensure that social security remains strong. [applause] sean: while hassan says that she's concerned about corrupt special interests when it comes to this issue. >> you have my commitment that in the u.s. senate i will fight any attempt to privatize it, cut benefits, or to raise the

sean: both candidates say the issue should be a high priority for the presidential race. a woman from gilmanton is accused of leading police on a chase while allegedly driving drunk. belmont police reportedly clocked sherry giddis driving 90 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone on route 106 just before 11:00 last night. officers tried to stop the pickup truck, but it kept speeding into laconia and then into gilford. laconia police eventually caught up with the truck when it stopped at a mcdonald's. officers say giddis refused to break a window in order to arrest her. coming up next, the presidential candidates are speaking out about this weekend's terror attacks. their reactions to the latest developments. kevin: the rain continues, the warmth and humidity remains. sean: plus in today's cook's corner, we're making a yummy dish. you'll want to stick around for

at three inches as well. the roadways are starting to dry out in spots after that happier rainfall overnight. -- heavier rainfall overnight. some of you we woke up overnight warning you of the heavy rain. it looks like lighter version of that rain this afternoon. a lot of that will be in the southern areas of the state. southern parts of new england, this will try to make a run at south easton parts of the state. lighter rainfall through the afternoon as you get into southern and southeastern areas. to the north, breaks in the overcast is a possibility. that may develop a thunderstorm this afternoon. we're talking temperatures in the 70's this afternoon with clouds and occasional higher shower activity out there. the activity has been winding down in the last few hours. nothing like what we saw as we went through the evening and

temperatures between the upper 60's to lower 70's. just a couple degrees from where we were as we started the day with the heavy rainfall coming down. dew points remain high as that system moves away. that is likely so through tomorrow before we see drier air filter in. temperatures above average through the week. as the system leaves, we are looking at lighter showers this afternoon and low clouds and fog. clearing and a westerly wind tomorrow morning. that will get us back to sunshine. because temperatures will only fall into the 50's and 60's later tonight, we will jump into the 80's in some areas with temperatures in the 70's up north. 70's to lower 80's. full sunshine on wednesday. looks like we continue with the sunshine for the first official
